How would you rank Final Fantasy 3, 4, 5 and 6? Which is your favorite and which is your least favorite? I'm in the process of replaying all 4.

(I know there's no real connection between them, I just group them together because they're the 1990s series entries before FF7/the 3D era)
    >>
    >>4131752
    7/10, 9/10, 10/10, 5/10

There's just such a steep drop in gameplay quality with 6.
    >>
    >>4131752
6 and 3 were good for what they were
    >>
    >>4131752
    Personally, I'd go
    6 > 4 >= 5 > 3
    >>
    >>4131752

    FF3:
    Story -- 3/10
    Combat -- 7/10
    Nostalgia factor -- N/A
    Overall: 5/10

    FF4:
    Story -- 6/10
    Combat -- 5/10
    Nostalgia factor -- 8/10
    Overall: 7/10

    FF5:
    Story -- 4/10
    Combat: 9/10
    Nostalgia factor -- 6/10
    Overall: 8/10

    FF6:
    Story -- 8/10
    Combat -- 8/10
    Nostalgia factor -- 8/10
    Overall: 9/10

But my fat ass is biased, so there.

Ah yes! the series peak FF6, is a 5/10 game.

FF6 is not the peak of the series, not even close.

All the games are boring and piss easy garbage.

I agree but many consider it the best pixel ff. I also didn't enjoy the gameplay despite everythibg else being good

this ranking sounds about right, though I would move 6 up, at least that game doesn't demand you to play the game exactly like the devs wanted you to and you're free to build a bals to the wall team.

I finished 4 on PSP, and came to a dire realization that the only reason why FF games are popular is bacuse they are the prototype for modern movie games.
No character creation, no dialogue choices, no party customization, copletely linear plot. Stroy is basic nonsense that follows the core japanese writing principle of "and then, and then, and then, and then...". Environemnt is uninteractive. "Secrets" are obvious and in open sight, they boil down to "that particuar sword that kills this particular boss" instead of something fun. And it was piss easy, you just turn on auto battle and turn your brain off.
    Honestly total waste of time.

FF3 on NES is archaic, and the 3D remake is shit, so it was an obvious skip.

Next is FF5 on SNES. I was already prepared that it's going to be piss easy, so I downloaded hard-type mod and another mod which shows classes sprites for your character on a overworld map. And you know what? It was still piss easy. People glaze this game all the time for teh job system, but playing makes it obvious that all classes are poorly balanced. Meta classes from preivous games are still meta in FF5. Experimentl classes are dogshit, and force you to grind skills for little to no pay off. So how was this dissonance balanced out? By making the game piss easy so much so that you can beat it even without picking any class at all. Plot was just generic isekai templete where random neet is chosen to be chosen one and gets harem of bitches for free. I was so bored so I turned one of my party members into a zombie. Played like this for few hours then I quit.

And last is FF6. Main character is feMC so you know story is gonna be boring, I also got spoiled the final boss so there were so suprises waiting for me. And since none of the issues of previous two games were addressed I quit after few hours hoping to find a mod that will "fix the game".
But I never came back to it and I never will.

Final Fantasy games have funadmental issue that healing doesn't have any meaningful costs, so by using white magic battles devolve into "attack, attack, heal", turing you essaentailly immortal and making combat into a repetative slog. Even ressurecting your party members costs next to nothing.
Also the story quest is completely linear in each game. "Go to town A and talk to NPC 5, now go to town B and talk to NPC 9, now go town C and-" Holy shit can't I have a choice of what I wanna do next for once? Is this really an RPG?

I am not gonna play any FF game again, especially now that SEnix is obsessed with making the male MC look like an androgynous lesbian.

If you were born during time when 3D games running at 60 fps were already a thing, you will start looking people who fanatically masturabate to SquareSoft games in public spaces as metally degraded retards.
I wish all american millenials died in Iraq so that now I wouldn't have to spend every day reading "hurr durr final fantasy has changed my life and my gender" on this board.

We had this in the 90s on our computers, dumb dumb.

I dropped Final Fantasy almost 25 years ago. And you’re wrong, shitloads of people were primarily computer gamers and got into the series with FF7, which was wildly popular.

My favorite entry is IX. FFIX > FFVI > FFIV > FFV > FFIII

For story and atmosphere: FFVI (best overall) and FFIV (a solid classic).

For gameplay and freedom: FFV (best job system).

For the history of the series: FFIII (important, but dated).

Six is the best even if it's combat and bugs left a portion of it slightly undercooked. At the end of the day, JRPG combat is not that deep, and the sheer variety of character skills, esper summons, magic, and boss mechanics still gives it plenty of substance.
Following all of the strengths of six on a downward scale, Four is the next best, then Five, and Three is last. Three is quickly the worst of all Final Fantasy before VII. Five is alright if the plot didn't have the beat of an abridged saturday morning cartoon. Four is just aged behind Six.

    Simple as.

I don't think it matters when you played them, it is just bizarre in general (2000s by the way).

This is one of the reasons I like SaGa games and what the creator of them understands.
If virtually unlimited free healing is available, there are no stakes or challenge.

III was done extremely dirty by Square.
The remake was bad and we didn't get an official release until the PR.
Had the game come out of Japan on NES or even get a GBA remake and gave players nostalgia, people would EASILY love this game on the same level as IV.
I know Japanese players love III a lot more than the west.

This is the most braindead easy version of the game, even compared to the original. You should have played the 3D version which actually made you think sometimes.
    >they are the prototype for modern movie games
Classic FF games don't have Hollywood wannabe writing so no.
    >No character creation, no dialogue choices, no party customization, copletely linear plot
FF4 is pretty basic in those regards but that is by design since it wanted to streamline some elements. The actual combat is still good.
    >Stroy is basic nonsense that follows the core japanese writing
By today's standards sure but the story was ambitious at the time and helped lay the foundation for the more story orientated FF6 and 7.
    >>4133435
    >you essaentailly immortal and making combat into a repetative slog
This was only an issue starting in FF6 onwards which is when the gameplay of the series started slipping hard. You can't even spam healing spells in FFI/III anyways due to the spell charge system.

    >If virtually unlimited free healing is available

6 is overrated before romhack, the gameplay isn't great. The art project aspect is stellar. 4 has an incredible quest but is rather shallow, I dont replay it often but it was my first FF. 3 aged poorly and none of the remakes or romhacks have helped it. 5 is a game i can replay over and over again. I should play 3-d FF4 at some point.

brave new world romhack for 6 makes the gameplay stellar, and FF5 while not needing a romhack has the Void Divergence romhack which makes it peak old school JRPG combat with surreal hypercomplexity

    >brave new world romhack for 6 makes the gameplay stellar
I agree strongly with this. It opened my eyes to what happened to FF6. BNW romhack didn't have to remake how FF6 works, it just cooked what was already there. It already had the scripting for the complex battle AI (because it was built on FF5) it was just underutilized. Same thing with the character attributes and stats. It makes it obvious that FF6 development was rushed in retrospect.

I actually liked 3 the most, it was the most fun to me.
