What are some games which blur the line of an RPG, or use blatant RPG mechanics in a style of game that is not typical of the genre?

Pic related. The poster child for a hybrid genre.

I just wanna say that I really love the Hickman's and Weis' Death Gate Cycle. I'm not saying it's the peak of their fiction (that would probably be Dragonlance), but many of its ideas would be peeled by other RPGs. In particular, the Protheans in ME1 having their systems fail while trying to outlast the Reapers is strikingly close to the Sartans having their stasis fail in Chalice when trying to prevent Serpents from escaping Chelestra. It was the thing that introduced me to (real) fantasy.

No, Death Gate still fits. It's still sort of an RPG, in a lot of ways.

I loved that game. Got it on some compilation disc and went in blind. Liked it so much I got the books. Read all the way up to the last one and for some reason just never finished it. Alfred was cool and it's a shame he has no appearance in the game.

Their Darksword setting is neat too, would've been sweet as a cRPG.

Death Gate is fucking cool. I recently reread the series.

Death Gate isn't an RPG at all. It's a very straightforward point and click adventure, just filled with a bunch of lore dumps and dialogue trees

You WRPG dudes never cease to amaze me; JRPGs have had blurred lines for eons and you fail to recognize them because they don't fit the usual self insertion mold.

    Rocket Slime series
    >you talk to people
    >there is currency
    >you forge things
    >tanks have hp
    >towns with residents

Super controversial Legend of Zelda series and Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land
    >there is currency
    >towns
    > you talk to people
    >you forge things
If Star Ocean, Legend of Mana series, and Brave Fencer Musashi are JRPGs, I am counting this series as such.

    >Bomberman Tournament
    >Custom Robo

Heck, you could even say that some platformers had JRPG elements.
    >You talk to people and do quests in Banjo's Titles

If that's what qualifies as making something an RPG, then Grand Theft Auto is an RPG. Shit, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Day's Gone, LA Noire, Mad Max, Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, and Metro Last Light are all RPG's.4

Schizo retard rambling about nonsensical retarded garbage. You sound like that honker faggot who got BTFO on /vr/. Did you suddenly move on to autistically screeching about jarpiggies because adventure game fans stopped responding to you?
