>I like RPGs, but I hate grinding. Then you don't like RPGs.
>>4130295Grinding is largely not required in the majority of games. However, the ability to do so persists both just as a function of gameplay mechanisms (if you can get a resource from doing a task and there are repeatable tasks (for example - fighting monsters) - grinding exists) but also as an accessibility route for both children and stupid people to still experience the rest of the game that they bought instead of just being stopped 20% at a hard challenge and then not experiencing 80% of the game. It allows for the payment of time instead of skill - that's the key understanding to be hadOf course, with the proliferation of accessible guides and walkthroughs - many people have completely left the traditional experience of playing RPGs - and abandoned investing time or skill in place of using another's to expedite their own consumption of more content
So long as there's always something you can do at a given level that keeps you progressing it's fine. If the game requires me to wander around killing slimes because I hit a content wall that I can't breach without leveling up or some shit I'm probably not going to like it. In my experience, most times I had to do that were the result of being a retarded kid that barely paid attention to a game's systems though
>>4130617You start as a weak character and only after many perils and tribulations you can become strong to defeat the last boss. That means defeating slimes until you can one shot them. When the game gives you enough experience to defeat the final boss just by completing quests, it's making the game easier and ruining roleplaying
>>4130295I like 4chan, but I don't like low-effort bait threads.
>>4130295I hate grinding, but I have a maxxed OSRS account with nearly 500m total xp.
thats why I only like SRPGs
My favorite RPG's don't require grinding whatsoever.
>>4130295The more grinding a game has, the better. Usually I throw away 95% of my earned in-game currency so I have more time to grind.
>>4130295Grinding is antithetical to the RPG ethos (discovering emergent solutions to challenges posed by the game) and Runescape is a tranny autist game, not an RPG.

>>4130526>Grinding is largely not required in the majority of games.Problem is people don't really understand what grinding means. RPGs are an interesting case because "I hate grinding" to a modern player seems to mean "I wish I could skip all combat and still go through the game normally".
>>4130295>autist tries to argue
>>4132053Quite the opposite. If the hero doesn't face many hardships through his quest, did he grow as a character? If a game just gives you enough experience to move to the next stage without any grinding, then the experience is futile and the game is just a linear story.
The only other times i had fun grinding was from this game
>>4132205>If the hero doesn't face many hardships through his quest, did he grow as a character? Non-sequitur.>If a game just gives you enough experience to move to the next stage without any grinding, then the experience is futile and the game is just a linear story.Use your tools instead of trying to brute things, retard.
>>4133088>Use your tools instead of trying to brute things, retard. How would you use your tools if the game doesn't give you enough opportunities to test it out?
>>4132205>If the hero doesn't face many hardshipsHero who kills three-goblins-in-a-row 200 times a day for weeks is not facing hardships of a challenge, he's doing unpaid pest control labor.
>>4130779>he did it out of spitebased and same
The funny thing is grinding faggotry is really only an issue with modern runescape (yes this includes old school)If you do quests the game has fairly little grinding and mostly "ends" at level 50-60 before the xp curve starts shitting the bed and most of the stuff after that being vanity shit for retards.
>>4137542the issue is requirements. Everything needs something so you will start out trying to get a slayer helm but you need crafting but its not efficient without quest X and you need item Y which requires quest Z which has a herblore requirement of 43 and it just goes on and fuckng on.Yes you should be slamming quests but that's only something newfag efficiency kids do my maxed account needs 80 quests and its a 20yr account. Also it's like 400+ hours of questing and questing sucks imo.
>>4130295Grinding is caused by a failure of the developer to properly pace the content of their game.
>>4130295You don't have to collect 20 boar butts to have an rpg. The best RPGs have no grinding. You get more xp for finding an arm than you do most combat encounters in Planescape.
>>4138500Grinding is caused by a failure of the player to figure out other ways to progress than "my numbers are greater than numbers of this enemy".
>>4138132>grinding shit is vanity shit for retards>Um no I haven't done any of the quests and I have a max level account and a cape of gay retard please tell me I'm coolFuckin got em
>>4138568That's only true if the game is well designed.
>>4138646I just don't like questing. It's kind of funny cause I'm locked out of some of the hard diaries.
>>4130295grinding is just setting an RPG difficulty to 'easy mode'any RPG that forces you to grind is adding needless filler to pad their shitty game up; this is most common in the MMORPG subgenre. OP has aids.
>>4139516MMOs have by far the hardest difficulty of any RPG
>>4140267No shitposting please.
>>4133099Not him but most RPGs gives you as many opportunities to test things as you want. But grinding isn't the same as "testing your tools", it's easy and thoughtless combat, the opposite of the "hardships" you mentioned, for the sole purpose of making difficult fights easy and thoughtless as well. The player never gets better at the game the way his character gets better at fighting. Overcoming a difficult dungeon with tactics, item management, decision making, experimentation, and so on is what makes an RPG a game instead of a linear story. Trying not to fall asleep grinding easy encounters for an hour or so is what turns an RPG into a linear story with busywork every few hours.
