Why isn't Nethack talked about more on this board? It's a very meaty RPG experience even if you're not fond of traditional roguelikes.
    >>
Personally i can't get it to look good.

    >RPG experience
This is a JRPG board. And you'd have to be able to read.

I prefer to discuss games I can actually beat, and I always die in Nethack.

It's too tough for people these days. Nobody wants to learn how to play, spoiler use is rampant which sucks some of the fun out of the game. Newest version supposedly a "code cleanup" but changed many fundamental things, all for the worse, fragmenting the player base into several pieces.

    Despite all this it's great.

any reason why the inventory is 60% of the screen?
    >>
    >>4129896
This is a dead board. Nobody posts here about anything most of the time. It's 90% trolls with nothing to say, like you.

not that anon but if i remember correctly you can't word wrap in the console. makes sense to make enough room for some of the crazy long item names.

    >Engaging with the OP question meaningfully is trolling
    >but whining about how other people don't create content for you isn't
    The absolute irony.

Because it's ancient and as good as it still is it has been surpassed by younger RLs in just about anything.
The mapgen is particularly archaic and hard to go back to.
    >>
    >>4129662
I wasted so much time on DOS versions of Rogue, Adom, Palantir and Nethack in 1999. I can't look at this stuff anymore.
    >>
    >>4130410
    >Newest version supposedly a "code cleanup"
Name a single case of "code cleanup" in game development which didn't result with some absolutely unbelievable idiocy.
    >>
    >>4130513

    You get fewer wishes
    Elbereth got nerfed (again)
Most strategies that could make you uber powerful were patched out because 0.01% of the playerbase was getting too good at ascending
They changed some classes and monsters to be more (((gender neutral)))

    >>4130761

That's the Curses interface. You can play without it.
    >>
    >>4137638
There are some bad ones, especially involving fractions of a turn. Which is sometimes absolutely critical with Nethack. They flubbed it badly.
    >>
    >>4129662
Games like Nethack don't work in the modern age. It's too obtuse to learn intuitively but once you know the spoilers it's trivial. This worked better decades ago where information came from rumors and advice instead of minmaxed wikis.
