why is this game so revered when its clearly a step backwards from Ultima IV to VI?the real time combat is terrible and it becomes a mouse clicking fest, not the turn based elegance of the previous games.
AI could fix this. make it turn based combat
>>4129499>yea, this great RPG?>It's shit
>>4129499-because cool "AI" work patterns for the NPC. living breathing world and all that jazz. that was cutting edge back in the days.-stuff looks more "3D" than 6, and you can pick up just about anything. -and well, the plot was cool too.the Ultima pioneered a lot of stuff in RPGs. do i really wanna play/replay them all? not really. i should start up my old save for Divine Divinity instead. that's also a "living world" that lets you pick up almost anything too. (ok Arcanum did the "living world" thing better.) no party system and it's realtime, but i thought the combat was decent for a diablo-clone.
>>4129499>turn based eleganceNow I don't like any of the Ultima games - they pioneered some cool concepts that has done games good as a whole, but I don't like playing Ultima - but nothing is gayer than turnbased combat unless you want a very slowpaced slog of an experience.
>>4129499Combat in all Ultima games is bad. Absolute slog in IV and V, awkward in VI and VII.
>>4133315>the Ultima pioneered a lot of stuff in RPGs. do i really wanna play/replay them all? not really>i should start up my old save for Divine Divinity insteadpost discarded
>>4133341>why is Chess so slow?
>>4137905speed chess is a thang. but that's >>>/tg/
>>4137907you dont say, you're missing the point entirely, some of us dont want combat being about how fast you can press a button.
>>4133537I miss the era where every RPG had Ultima-style top-down party-based turn-based combat.
>>4137912>some of us dont want combat being about how fast you can press a button. Some devs are now adding lower difficulty options for people with cognitive impairments who have trouble pressing buttons in a timely manner, so don't worry
>Hey what if the game had every potential action bound to a different alphanumeric key just so we could say that we used every one of them?Your favorite series is shit, Spoony
>>4138728sure i loved playing mechwarriors. and SOME roguelikes.
>>4138728>Hey what if the game had every potential action bound to a different alphanumeric key just so we could say that we used every one of them? This philosophy is from an older age, when people who used computers were necessarily intelligent. It’s unsurprising that you look at it as a flaw.
>>4138728People didn't have a sense of good game design back then.
>>4137997I thought fast button pressing was designed to appeal to the ADHD-addled zoomie brain?
>>4139084That's what low-functioning people tell themselves
>>4137912But... U7 wasn't about pressing a button. You set up party equipment and tactics, then pressed c when enemies appeared and watched Avatar and co go at it in autocombat. Maybe intervene a couple times to manually cast a spell if things went south.I played through black gate and serpent isle and the only way things could become a click fest is if for some unholy reason you put the Avatar on manual target selection.
