Now that Daggerfall has been modded to be an MMORPG is it good?
>Now thatStopped reading here
>>4123073Okay I gotta ask, how does it handle the madness that is travel time?
>>4123783I haven't actually played it but from gameplay footage it looks like it might work on global time? Fast travelling works by pulling your camera out 100x and you enter an overhead travel mode were your character is sped up a thousand times and you can set waypoints or manually travel. Along the way you seem to get random encounters spawning in or shit like "hunting grounds" which I guess is like a minigame or a RuneScape skilling area. They also seemed to have replaced the gold cost for travelling with food and water and you also get a tent so you can't just go across the map without supplying yourself with water along the way free of charge. Hunger mechanics at least seem to fit in Daggerfall if you consider it a procedural simulation world.I wonder how long it will be until they get something like Barrens chat since they implemented mmo chat as well.
>>4123073At least post the link so that niggas can join inhttps://daggerfalljs.dev/
>>4123073>>4125477What's the best starting class? Spellsword?
I've played all TES games from Morrowind onwards and I have no idea WTF is going on in this game. I tried looking some things up but the issue is that there's 3 different versions of the game, the original, the unity port and the online version and they are all different so idk what's applicable to the new MMO and what's not.
>>4126934>lizard tits
>mfw default UI
>>4127580Online version is Unity with some tweaks>>4123073can't enjoy it without paper models, I know it would be fuckton of work making sprites but still
It's pretty funny how they modded morrowind 3d models into 2d sprites
>read the wiki>Enemy damage is in the low double-digits>fight an enemy>rips my health to shredsDid they tune up the enemy damage in online? I fell into a pit with a slaughterfish and barely escaped with my life.
>>4123073...What's the point? Can you fight/loot other players?Even if that were the case, and you could run into the 10 whole people that will play this... It's still Daggerfall and thus repetitive and boring as fuck.
>>4128810>Can you fight/loot other players?Yes>run into the 10 whole people that will play thisOver 600+ players in the first 2 weeks>It's still Daggerfall and thus repetitive and boring as fuckThere's oblivion gates, sieges, naval combat, a bunch of other shit with players that actually make the game fun.
>>4128814I will take back my words, I played it a bit. The website is very misleading, though. It makes it sound like it's just DFU but with online added. It's EXTREMELY modded DFU.Cool project, but I still don't think it'll catch on at all.
>>4128814>There's oblivion gateslol
>>4123073Even if the netcode is buttery smooth, Daggerfall's skills and mechanics do not make for fun MMORPG gameplay. Even something like hordes.io would be a better browser mmo.
>>4123073is it even worth playing elder scrolls 2?
>>4129770TES2 and 3 are the only ones worth playing if you have any interest in game design and technology. Or TES lore.Techwise, 2 shows what could have been and 3 shows what happened after they gave up on that dream and loicensed gamebryo engine to make tiny little sandboxes over and over again. 1 is not the formative work you might expect. Most of teslore was established in 2. Hell, even the gods are named after daggerfall community beta testers. 3 also expanded some of the more esoteric aspects, but beyond that all the mainline games and spinoffs dig into that lore for their stories. Except ESO which seems to just do its own thing.
>>4123073The smart thing would be training on player telemetry in a sensible way to make somewhat more emergent NPC behavior, random weirdos running around the wilderness attacking beasts or innocent peopleAlso if I can't put on a guard costume and hit a button to shout HALT then I'm not playing
>>4129770Yeah it's a pretty good dungeon crawler.
>>4135442It reminds me so much of my dungeon crawler animes like solo leveling etc. now all I need is a friend to adventure with and raid some dungeons so we can become filthy rich. Unfortunately I have no friends. Please someone be my friend
>>4123073it was always good
>>4139916Literally none of that shit is vanilla.
>>4139973>Big Daggerfall Fan Excited To Play Daggerfall For The First Time
>>4139975>bot response
>>4139973>Playing an elder scrolls game unmodded
>>4140672>Playing an elder scrolls game unmoddedI play Oblivion and Skyrim vanilla. Morrowind needs some work. I don't see Daggerfall being salvageable.
>>4140672>Playing an elder scrolls game unmoddedThere's>being familiar with the vanilla game, and then modding it to suit one's taste, whether that is a little bit or a lotand then there's >zoomers who have never once played the DOS original and have absolutely no idea what it was like, only downloading giant modpacks of six gorillion mods for the Unity engine port such that it's completely unrecognizable from the original game, and then talking about how much they ""love daggerfall"", a game they've never played and never will
>>4140672Modding wasn't a thing for Daggerfall until very recently.
>>4140672>>4140826>>4140870i've been playing it again for a few days now. only mod i use is the expansion delay. ive always been a purist though.
thoughts on DFO's landscapes? i prefer my dfu setup but they do a lot well, just not a huge fan of how they do the mountains but sometimes its really nice, picrel
>>4141066No openmw, codepatch, or unofficial patches?
oh shit tamriel update just dropped :o
>>4142252Oh boy AI sloppa!
>>4129770Yes and no. In concept it's amazing, in practice it's pretty good but the secret switches and the way quest targets sometimes won't load which leads you in a convoluted goose chase to nothing hampers the experience, and when you take a step back to look at the game as a whole you realize how surface level a lot of things about it are which is something later games improved on. I like jumping into it from time to time, unless you're really into it then my best advice would be to treat it as a side game you play casually because then any issues don't feel as egregious as they otherwise could.
>>4142252Yeah and they made Cyrodill an open air pvp zone. What a blunder. They also added microtransaction. Seems that they want to chase the PoE crowd. But they<ll never be able to balance PvP nor make a satisfying "loot threadmill" PvE experience with compeltely overhauling how the skill system work.
>>4142609>They also added microtransactionUh oh
>>4142950Yeah they are very close to reciveing some very friendly messages from Bethesda
>>4140672>Playing an elder scrolls game
>>4140906andyfall and various tweaks and graphics patches for the game in OG and quests say otherwise.
