You can only post in this thread if you own the BradyGames guide for Fallout 1. Only LARPing zoomers played Fallout 1 without the Fallout Official Survival Guide. Or think that it was made by PrimaGuide, which was actually for Fallout 3 (the best of Fallout classics btw).

    Fallout 3 > 2 > 1 > New Vegas

    Here's why:

    Immersive First-Person Perspective
    >True 3D World: Swapping isometric views for a first-person engine makes the wasteland personal.
    >Scale and Scope: The Capital Wasteland feels infinitely larger and more terrifying.
    >Visceral Combat: Real-time shooting completely eliminates slow-paced, grid-based movement.
    >Cinematic VATS: The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System blends turn-based strategy with spectacular cinematic action.[Reddit - r/Fallout +4]

    Superior World Exploration
    >Organic Discovery: Landmarks entice players to wander, unlike Fallout 1's map travel.
    >Environmental Storytelling: Skeletons and locked terminals tell tragic stories without dialogue.
    >Dense Urban Centers: Exploring ruined Washington D.C. subways creates unmatched claustrophobic tension.
    >Unmarked Secrets: The world hides countless unique items, encounters, and miniature locations. [Reddit+4]

    Accessibility and Pacing
    >No Time Limits: Fallout 3 removes the stressful, punishing water-chip countdown timer.
    >Streamlined Systems: Leveling up feels highly rewarding without confusing classic tabletop clutter.
    >Iconic Audio: Radio stations like Galaxy News Radio give life to lonely treks.
    >Iconic Vault Intro: Playing through childhood in Vault 101 creates a powerful emotional hook.[Reddit - r/Fallout +3]

Realistically, only the hateful Slavs of RPGCodex prefer Fallout 1 over Bethesda's masterpieces.

    >>
    >>4121530
    What a SHIT thread.
FO3 is easily the worst part of the franchise, FO1 was a short, self- contained story with close to zero content unrelated to the main quest, FO2 was FO1 Deluxe with a lot of additional content.
As for the water chip time limit in FO1, it was impossible to run out of time unless you were a retard spamming rest every 5 minutes. The real ticking clock was supposed to be the conquest of wastelands by supermutants, illustrated by towns being gradually taken and destroyed, one by one. Which was completely cut from the game because lol Interplay. This is why the second act felt so short and empty.

    >>
    >>4140388
i don't disagree with you, but anon, you used a guide, so of course you would think the time limit was not an issue. it was actually pretty easy to run out of time, because especially because the Brotherhood of Steel was really cool and the quest to the glow is a trap in multiple ways - not just being irridated and will probably kill you on your first visit if you weren't paying attention, but also because its its a 30+ day travel there and back again, so if you don't finish the quest the first time you go there, you can easily burn way too much time if you decide to go back. Obviously many people fell for this, because the time limit wouldn't be as memorable as it is, and wouldn't have been patched out, if it didn't irritate a lot of people... which it did. I didn't really mind it at the time, because the game was so unique and interesting for the time that it was still fun to play, but still, an abrupt ending that you can't get out of will annoy anyone.
    >>
    >>4140388
    >>4141728
also forgot to mention that any complaints about the time limit these days are just needless whining, because, like i said, it was patched out long ago. I didn't even know it was patched out for years because obviously I knew about it after that first loss and just never fucked around long enough to ever see it again.
in short, there is no reason to complain about it ever again, so OP is just being a faggot.

I honestly have no idea what could you do to run out of time. Even when you were a dumb teenager who wanted to explore the map until you find the Secret Place with Quad Damage and Super Weapon, eventually you realized it's not how you play the game.

As for the discussion of needing a guide or something. This is all just reddit tier gotcha, theirs nothing in fallout that requires a guide. The game does an incredibly good job at leading the player to all major areas.

i entered this thread just to see what was going on and why OP believed buying a guide was some sort of mark of patricianhood and i was about to leave once it all turned out to be some schizo RP thing- then you come along and I have to ask- do you ever stop and think you might be a massive fucking retard for just stringing random nonsense words together? >>
    >>4142134
This. Every location in the game points to the next destination relevant to the main quest, all of them related either to the water Chip, or Cathedral / Military Base. If you look at it closely, it's a really well crafted finite-state diagram of a story.
The only dead end location in the game was Khans' camp, and it was still a side quest connected to the main story (Shady Sands).
    >>
    >>4142141
i actually didnt know the water merchants were there on my first playthrough. I liked doing caravan runs, so i got to necropolis from there and just randomly explored until i found the water chip. I then eventually ran out of time for the invasion because of a few different things, like grinding exp on the deathclaws in the boneyard trying to get all the cool perks i saw in the manual.
    >>
    >>4128742
The Vault City was among the most interesting locations in FO2.
A pristine but unsettling technologically advanced place governed by a totalitarian system, later turns out it's former Vault rising as a new power in the wastelands.
I would also argue Vault City was based. There was a pleasant apartheid vibe, if you don't look too closely at the details.
In a way it could be a perfect material for a game in FO universe on its own. An open Vault doing serious job of conquering the wastelands and slowly compromising its principles in the way Brotherhood of Steel did in Fallout Tactics way, as the time goes on.

    >>
    >>4142828
    >people were confused how Bethesda could make something so bad and it was like hello?
It only shows there's no knowledge continuity in both the industry and among the players. At some point everybody responsible for the QA in Skyrim (Skyrim had unusually low number of glitches and game breaking bugs for a Bethesda TES game) resigned. At some point everybody who remembered the nuclear disappointment with Oblivion and "Fallout" 3 checked out and stopped to give a damn.

    Gigachad opinion:
    >Fallout >> Fallout 2 >> Fallout New Vegas >^infinity > all Bethesda Fallout games

With mods, New Vegas becomes better than Fallout 2, but you need far too many and still sometimes have to use the console too. VtM Bloodlines also requires Wesp's mod, but it's just one thing you install and you're good. Even with Mod Organizer it takes too much effort. I shouldn't have to put in that much effort, especially to fix something fundamentally broken thanks to Bethesda and its shit engine. Fallout 2 is only in the RPGCodex top 5 because it piggybacks in everyone's memory off Fallout's success or because it's the "oldie classic Fallout game" palatable for Bethestards.

    Real top 5 RPGs:
    1) Planescape: Torment
    2) Fallout
    3) Arcanum
    4) The Age of Decadence
    5) Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Good job outing yourself as subhuman underage cattle. My top 3 has been like that before I even got an ADSL connection. AoD is literally the closest game to Fallout or Arcanum ever made. And Bloodlines is the best action RPG ever made, and the most RPG of them all. It would be like claiming "The Wire, Twin Peaks, LotGH, The Sopranos +1" aren't the 5 best TV shows ever made, with AoD being the LotGH stand in for the metaphor. Only subhuman /v/ermin claim PST "just a visual novel". Sure, it is the best written RPG of all time, just like The Wire is the best written TV show of all time, but there's so much more to it (the quests, the class balance, the amount of content before the inevitable linear path that most RPGs are forced to go through). You could remove *all* the ~too much to read for vermin~ writing and it would still be #1. At most, I can tolerate someone not having it at #1 and only in the top 3 (unlike TW, if you watched that and it's not your #1 TV show, there's no excuse, you belong in the meat grinder).

I guess you think that RPGs should be all chungus like your anime 3x3s and whatnot, but it doesn't work like that. Shit, if I had to remove all action RPGs from my top 10, I'm pretty sure I would have to reach to some stinkers eventually.
    5) KotOR II
    6) Fallout 2
    7) M&M VII
    8) Mask of the Betrayer
so far still good but now
    9) Baldur's Gate 2
    10) Baldur's Gate 3
    11) Divinity: Original Sin II

Do you get it now, child? Rhetorical question, btw. That's how few good RPGs there are. Thankfully, Deus Ex, Gothic & Gothic 2 keep Bioware out of the top 10 where they belong. Meanwhile going back to /tv/ shows, it's impossible to fill a top 10 without reaching out to some stinkers like Breaking Bad no matter what.

But do feel free to post your chung'd up "not fitting in" generic /v/ermin taste but mixed up slightly to show how special you are, I could use a laugh.
