anyone play this?
>>4120102wats dat
Is this less faggy than Pillars 2?
>>4120125I think it was the spiritual successor to the SNES game Uncharted Waters: New Horizons which T.l.L. also came out on the Sega Genesis/S.M.D.I like the lack of combat in this game (and its earlier entry), so no random encounters. But I've only played as a trader/gambler, got rich, bought a bigger ship, and got myself a crew, geared them up, then got bored and not sure what to do next.
I've played a lot of indie rpgs and Quartet is probably the closest to actually feeling like a AAA JRPG. In particular I found the writing to be surprisingly good for an indie game.
>>4120102I love Open world FFT + Uncharted Waters (never played Uncharted Waters)Wished the continents were actually explorable and those hidden grottos more varied
>>4120556workshop bumps this game up from a 7 to a 9/10
>>4120102Played it with the workshop content mods and liked it quite a bit. Well worth the sale price.
>>4120300That hippo bothers me immensely.
What is a good starting party? Mainly race ideas and stat points.>>4120300I have been slowly replaying their first game -- Shadows of Adam -- sometimes when I am drunk, while using their strategy guide PDF.
>>4120102One of my favorite indie RPGs but it gets extremely repetitive by the end. All the simple simulation elements on top of the FFT foundation make it more than the sum of its parts for me
>>4121554763 g217 84 126Omisjali
>>4120102luv me some rad codex gameskingsvein was a bit of a disappointment, boat tactics remains the bestit seems the dev's output fluctuates between solid gold (voidspire tactics, boat tactics) and meh (alvora tactics, kingsvein) games like a sine wave
>>4121554I like the beetle-people
>>4121554>Mainly race ideas and stat pointsWilderi's are good for physical classes and Falpas are good for magic. For stat points just use your stars to focus on HP and a single weapon type.
They're supposedly putting this indie-crossover game out there for "free".How many of the games have you actually played? How many have you heard of?
>>4128037>3 person party system for a game with a ton of charactersdidn't these faggots learn from Chrono Cross?
I got around to playing Farever for an hour and a half. If you can get past it looking a bit gay- nothing against stylized artstyles, I just don't like the look they went for- I think it's fun. It's an action rpg with some MMO elements and 4 classes. The movement plays a bit like a 3d platformer with you being able to glide.>>4128037They better get my boys Peppino Spaghetti and Spark The Electric Jester.
>>4128037Last time I saw anything about this it had the cuck MC from Chained Echoes front and center which makes me disregard it
>>4120125>can't use googlengmi
>>4120300rpgmaker slop
>>4128462the fact it tries hard to not look like RPG Maker but still fails to innovate baffles meEven "Cuckold" Echoes did it better.
>>4128650What does that even mean? All 2D RPGs should look like RPG Maker - because that's what RPG Maker is for!
>>4120102>>4120125Ugly looking, but good mechanics
>>4120300I dropped it just because I hate the perspective of the battle scene
>>4120102>>4120300There is nothing more embarrassing, and obviously nostalgia-chasing, than RPGmaker games and JRPG's made by westerners, specifically indie games.
>>4120102it's really good, and so are a couple of the dev's other SRPGs, Voidspire Tactics and Kingsvein (Alvora is kinda meh)Which one of those you're going to like the best depends on what you're looking for. Kingsvein is the most focused on the battle strategy part, with a tighter difficult curve, while Voidspire and Horizon's Gate are respectively trimmed and broad versions of a more varied and exploration focused experience.>>4120160I played this but got sidetracked partway in. Art is good but other than that it was just "ok" and looked like it was going in a direction where it was going to squander it's own narrative.>>4120300Haven't played this, but I did play Shadows of Adam and wasn't impressed at all. Game pulls the "remember FF6?" card too often.>>4128037>How many of the games have you actually played?>How many have you heard of?uhh, off the top of my head I forget most of what's even in this aside from CrossCode and Cosmic Star HeroineBut I've played both of those and liked both of those quite a bit.
>>4139437I hate that aesthetic more like nothing else in RPGs. At least put on some good shaders to actually emulate the 16 bit looks ffs. The game has to be extraordinary for me to check it out
>>4120300I was really excited for this one because I heard they got Patrick Holleman for it and I really admired his Reverse Design write ups way back in the day. That's part of why I was so let down by Quartet because I had such high expectations going in.The writing is the worst bit of the game. By the time the game gets through introducing all the characters and getting the team formed to get started with the plot, the plot is almost practically over. Instead of having a grand adventure across 4 huge dimensions, we have 4 teeny-tiny dimensions that don't have a lot of content to them and there's just not much to do once you get the freedom of the airship. Cordelia is a Mary Sue and in the devs rush to make her "the best character ever" they actually create a plot hole. Just when it looks like she's in trouble and in need of outside help with the bandits she casts a dark magic curse that nearly gets her allies killed while murdering all the bandits, because she's just so skilled and needs no help from nobody apparently. This entire scenario is undermined later when it's revealed that Cordelia is just so completely skilled and is basically god's gift to the world of magic because she knows and has known plenty of dark magic spells as it turns out all along. So that means instead of needlessly almost killing her allies way back when with the bandits she could've been far more sensible with her use of dark magic and turned her enemies' flesh to glass or just stolen their souls. The side quests are far too often unfulfilling. Like the hippo has this personal quest to follow the trail of her lost herd. The trail leads to a dead end, you get a reward for completing the quest, but you walk away from it unsatisfied.Unsatisfying is the best word I could use to describe the game. A lot of potential, but still unsatisfying.
