I always play with Gamefaqs so I can get all the hidden secrets and items on the go.
    >It's more fun playing it blind and figure it all by yourself.
No, it's not. You will not max your build and you will miss some things. No, I don't have the time for a 2nd playthrough.

2bad the websight is dead and woke now. Fandom will probably shut it down soon AFAIK.
download all their FAQs before it's too late!

Final Fantasy is not an RPG, it's gookslop adventure targeted at failed western men.
Additionally, if you didn't go in blind, you didn't really beat the game. It's the same as if someone handed you a list of buttons to press to see the 'You Win' button. You didn't really win.

    >>
    >>4096238
Figuring out is sometimes more exhausting than enjoying the game itself.
And I already said it's not optimal. You will not max your characters and you'd still miss some things that you'll regret not getting at.

Man I miss ascii art on guides
    >>
    >>4096228
If the game has permanently missable content, I agree.
    >>
    >>4096238
Yes, only homosexuals like you know how to succeed.
    >>
    >>4096228
Why play the game at all and not just watch a playthrough?
You do not actually engage with the mechanics and you do not win or succeed based on your decisions.
You could even watch at 2x speed to waste even less time
    >>
I've read through some 'guides' for games I'm familiar with and every time the author was giving terrible strategy advice. Why are the people who make these things so bad at video games?
    >>
    >>4096593
name and shame them or you're a bot
    >>
    >>4096238
Guides are fine, boss strategies are a big no-no without being mega stuck. That's the fun part.
    >>
How are you supposed to naturally intuit to leave specific chests unopened so they get upgraded in WoR?
    >>
    >>4096228
Based, JRPG devs wanted to sell guides so they intentionally included shit you'd never find without one. Using a guide is the intended way to play.
    >>4096238
Cringe, of course it's a namefag who has these pathetically insecure takes.
    >>
    >>4107327
you don't. maybe they wanted gamers who "speedrun" WoB to get better stuff in WoR.
    >>
    >>4107327
    ???
I presume they just wanted chests you missed to be fun to open in WoR too.
    >>
Who is worse, someone following a guide or somebody who grinds to an absurd level to completely erase the challenge?
    >>
    >>4107560
i enjoyed killing absurd number of dinosaurs with my yeti bro, so my team can do 999 mahou damage in the endgame dungeon.
    >>
    >>4107327
As a kid I genuinely did not understand that the point of Zodiak Spear in 12 was to sell guides.
    >>
    >>4096228
    >You will not max your build and you will miss some things.
It's usually more fun that way. Games are designed around the assumption that the player will not find everything or be super optimized.

    >>4107560
The grinder is at least making his own choices and discoveries, rather than following in someone else's footsteps.
    >>
Eh kinda. Depends on the game I guess but the thing is you'll never know if this is the one (4u) until you play it. For example I played Underrail blind on release and it was fun learning stuff and I still keep coming back to this game. And I also played Look Outside for the first time this summer and I didn't have an internet access so it was also blind. And I missed so much stuff, interesting stuff, but I have zero intensions to replay it in the foreseeable future. There's also a question of balance. If you know the game you might want to handicap yourself to make it harder/more interesting by playing suboptimal. But it also sucks when you do that on your first playthrough just because you chose wrong class or ability etc. and know no better.

    >grinds to an absurd level to completely erase the challenge?
Just did this in Ultima 2, game still had brutal moments. Maybe it's different in JRPGs, though.

I don't play enough games to not have time for second playthroughs. I'm on like my seventh Deus Ex playthrough by now, I like seeing things multiple times, doing things a bit differently on each go.
    Cry about it.

    >You will not max your build and you will miss some things.

    So? FFVI is braindead easy
    >>
    >>4096228
I don't like to play with a full game guide at the side and having to follow step by step what the walls of text say, but I search for some light spoiler guide for some secret stuff, how to get "x weapon" and "how to to not miss x event/reward". People say that guides in first playthrough ruin your run but unironically missing some op shit and stuff ruins the game more for me than just reading a spoiler.
I don't replay games either, it's a fucking waste of time with the amount of games there's to play out there. Specially me who plays fucking everything. CRPG, ARPG, WRPG, JRPG, RPGMaker slop, P&Click Adventure Games, Racing Games, Total Conversion mods, WEGs...

I haven't looked at it in like 20 years, but I remember reading the Manhunt guide just for fun

Finished this game earlier this week. Damn near a masterpiece. The only flaw is how the undermining of the job-like class abilities in late game in favor of overpowered magic.

You can beat Ultima 2 without increasing any stat but HP.
