A place to discuss whatever RPGMaker game you're working on (similar engines also welcome, though a certain Sigmoid sucking individual is not.).

    RPG Maker on Steam:

    >Do you think U2U will have worthwhile games, or will it be another Unity level flop with people staying on VX/MV?
It won't be a Unite Level flop. And I don't think Unite is a flop, considering it wasn't for general RPG Maker users. And was for people who were moving to Unity engine from RPG Maker.

U2U on the other hand... is there any RPG Maker dev who doesn't want to at-least try it out & play with it? It's just RPG Maker MV/MZ except with a 2.5D mapping system.
What's there as a reason for especially new users, coming into RPG Maker, to not go with U2U over MV/MZ? (Except for system requirements for U2U being higher)

It'll start having worthwhile games... in a couple of years.

The guy gets harassed and maligned everywhere (in RPGM spaces) now, to the point he can't hang around in the general RPG Maker community anymore. And had to withdraw himself from it.
It really gets tiring, when a major part of your work is online, and there are people constantly making things up about you and your work to damage you & mess with your head. That you then have to deal with and address.
I took lightly of people complaining myself, until it happened to me too. So, practice some empathy before you're taught to with a harsh experience.

    >Why are trannies like this?
    He is not.

    >Self admitting to his huge narcisistic ego
It isn't jealousy, it is definitely envy.
He's quite a capable & experienced game dev and a pixel artist, with decently successful releases on android & Steam (prior to generative AI. Even prior to me finding RPG Maker).
Went around sharing his knowledge in the community too.
Which makes it feel worse when people in the community turn against you, disrespect you, insult you. And deny the guy the good he's doing & has done.
The onslaught of harassment & dismissals can make a person forget they've done or achieved anything. And feel useless. To the point of self-destruction & self-deletion.

    It is tiring, indeed.
    Don't add to the burden.
Be the one to share some of it and put it off.

    >So, practice some empathy before you're taught to with a harsh experience.
There are way too many chronic victims sufficating people with empathy to the point of exhaustion, and white knights thinking we have no empathy. Learn about empathy fatigue before complaining people have no empathy.

You place something online; that's your responsibility.
You get reactions, those aren't your responsibility. Just accept that people say whatever they want. If people are going to claim you eat the neightbors cats and that cats in any neighborhood are in danger so long they use your plugins, why react to such bullshit?

It doesn't really matter how famous people are who claim such things, such things are strangely beliefed and the moment you try to defend yourself, "You're defending yourself, so it has to be true!"- in other words, its used against you. If you say nothing, less stress- most efficient. If you say "Yes!", they get bored; this also works, but hate may increase.

It's his own fault. He was posing as he admits in his video. "choosing his words carefully', because he wanted to be "food" for the consumers, rather than just share what he made. He wanted to fit into a specific glove. This doesn't help.

Tiredness doesn't just come from hate reactions. It comes from trying your best to avoid those by trying to fit in. This is something you'll only realize when your life hasn't been succesful. (bullying, etc.) Tiredness comes from interacting with people and trying to keep their smiles up, knowing they're self centered parasites. Even when you check all the boxes, they will not even apologize; they're right, they cannot back away because "MY REPUTATION!"- they're the same kinds of people. Belittling someone helps them feel bigger themselves.

And you see that in the video as well, pointing fingers, calling every negative comment "haters", belittling them, thus he feels superior; not equal.

from the looks of it is. Same, Larger, Smaller, Larger or equal, Smaller or Equal, .... and the last one is hard to guess.
I mean you can guess if you recognize even two symbols.
Second and Third entry have the second symbol with a pole from the ground, which point up or down

    >>4106314
The issue is that you cannot restrict an event page to a very specific value, and so you'd need to overwrite it with a page that has an even higher value; creating unnessecary amounts of pages.

A second thing is that you only get one variable lock for the page, which is also a bummer.

Anyway when you have a variable that is decreasing, maybe even below zero, it's going to be tricky with page conditions, because the higher page number gets checked before the lower ones, which means you need to work your event in reverse order. It's an engine limitation that they kept in for generations.

That reminds me, VX Ace actually made enough room for a tileset page E and even an F. Also enough room for two A5s as full tileset pages in the systems
... which makes me think t here was an administrative decision to limit the engine to create less customization, so that they could sell an upgraded product later even for vx ace. kadokawa does this more often, just like many japanese companies.

First you get kingdom hearts, then you get final mix, then you get 1.5 ... same game, just with added stuff.
same with sonic adventure. sonic adventure dx, sonic adventure dx director's cut. meh-

It's a scam. They can do better and refuse to do so to make money later. Give the customer the best product now and you'll have less income, and need to spend money to actually provide better things.

Vibecoding is when you ask AI to generate code
or ask AI to make something using AI, which in the end will spit out the whole code or program. Either way, the AI assembles the code based on your instructions.

"Please generate a plugin that I can use in RPG Maker MV that does the following: "
    kind of like that.

The thing about vibe coding is that people are lazy, and go for the "good enough" end result since they don't want to endlessly talk with the AI to get something fixed, because while fixing it messes up other things. It's the same with generated artwork or text.

So what you get is a bloated and laggy plugin that after testing and asking the AI to correct it enough 'works'.
    >>
    >>4106444
Unoptimized due to the stutters, differences in connections between images, latency spikes in certain directions (shown in the gif), the text boxes appearing based on screen coords rather than below the image and smoothly dragging along, etc.

It uses existing stuff and tries to place it as in in the same scene, rather than modify its behavior to fit with this scene; and do you need to import everything from that in the scene?
The stutters happen because it has no clue what to do if you select the next image before finishing the whole transition to the current selected one, so it just teleports things.
    >>
    >>4107193
Vibecoding was before we had agentic ai.
It' wasn't "generating" code, it was translating your plain English(or whatever language you type in) into some other program language.

It was only bloated in the sense that it would recreate functions that already existed the RM core scripts or PIXI library, or whatever platform you were working with.
    >>
    >>4107193
    >Vibecoding is when you ask AI to generate code
Ewww... who gave it such a repulsive name?
I'd rather just call it AI-generated code, or generative coding. Which yes, this Node / Mind-map system is.
    >>
    >>4107278
Language model tools don't translate. They assemble output based or predicted on previous output. Your prompt is acting as the seed for this. There is no translation happening.

Translating is helping person A understand the exact meaning of words in language B. The problem is that AI doesn't understand English. It doesn't directly know the meaning of words. It outputs what you want to hear based on what it was trained to output, and so it doesn't translate at all.

It's like saying AI calculates: it doesn't. It predicts an answer. You can manipulate what it will put out proving that it doesn't translate, because your tweaks are not part of the translation. It's part of the output you want; and that is the goal.. to give you an output you're satisfied with.

AI translators are close, but not great 'translators'. They miss context of the modern take of words, and also everything has an English foundation with their output, even in places where it makes no sense. It will output German as if it is English for example; not something a German would say in German.

In a similar vane with Ruby, on which RPG Maker VX runs for example, it will grab Gems that RPG Maker cannot access, because of assemptions made by the general English speaking community data it was trained on; who will use those gems.

Agentic AI takes over your system, and vibecodes itself. You're still guiding it, less directly though, rather than programming. Google calls it Agentic Vibe Coding. https://cloud.google.com/discover/what-is-vibe-coding

    >bloat
Bloat doesn't matter, what matters is what is happening to the RAM and CPU. It doing too much in the same frame for example. Optimizing means making it's impact on the system while it is srunning the smallest, which sometimes requires more code thus a larger file. It also means making sure its bug free and smooth.

you could either steal one from mv/mz, or use scaled up refmap sheets
    >>
    >>4107428
Let's talk about that. They exist. But nobody uses them, so it's hard to recommend them.

Assumption number one: You're making an RPG; because [You Are Here] on the /vrpg/ interest board. Of course people use RM to make Action games. But that's not congruent with this board's topic.

Pretending you did a basic search for "Modern" RM resources, you'll have found a lot of guns and a bunch of tilesets for things like garage doors, vending machines, maybe warehouses. But to an RPG maker, these are kind of worthless. What are we supposed to do with a boring ass hallway? stairs? A parking lot?

Resource collectors be like, "I have so many traffic cones".

What is left unsaid is that whoever made these "modern" resources were probably picturing Action film plots like Die Hard. A bomb threat. A terrorist hostage situation. When an Action Game developer sees a hallway, they see a race against the clock. A chase sequence. A stealth mission, navigating a zombie hoard or avoiding a psycho school shooter.
The expectation is to run through the stage and survive.

In contrast to an RPG, the expectation is to look around and explore in order to complete a quest. There is a close overlap with Adventure games, where you navigate environments. Like, cutting down a tree in order to cross a river or gap is an Adventure "feat".
But RPGs have a broader social milieu, so it's not usually the player's job to build a bridge so much as it is to go the long way around, slay the troll on the other side, and unlock a new route.
While there are a lot of modern to medieval equivalents, there are major structural differences.
A castle vault, a dungeon, and a well/water reservoir can all exist in the same estate.
A bank, a prison, a water tower are unlikely to overlap in a modern city, or offer the same story economy.

So the question is: What do you need?

    >assumption number one: blah blah...
Did you use AI? For fucks sake the guy just wanted a tileset. It doesn't fucking matter what game they want to make with it unless you're going to draw the tileset for them.
    >pretending
you're accusing them and implying things. Also, concerning your opinion, they just wanted a tileset that you don't like apparently.
    >resource collectors be like: "I have so many fraffic cones"
You mean: "I just download shit, and rarely share.", otherwise mentioning they're collectors is completely meaningless making the statement meaningless... what purpose does this serve in giving them a tileset?
    >What is left unsaid blah blah
Tiles aren't hallways nor giant rooms. They can be used to make these, sure.
    >The expectation
There is no expectation from a tileset, other than it containing artwork in this case which is based on modern day life. For example a modern bed; rather than a stall's haybed.
    >In contrast to an RPG
Distracting from the subject. Comparing a game to a resource designed for a game is meaningless.

    >So the question is: What do you need?

    There isn't.
Crooked Man, Boogie Man and Sand Man (games made by Uri in Wolf RPG Editor) use POP! Horror City. (it's probably the most popular set to use, not sure)
Aria's Story and Midnight Train use Celianna's tiles. (which are edits of the official set)
    like... yeah.

VisuStella made a couple of modern tiles as well (for MZ/MV), but I haven't seen those used anywhere. (heck they're expensive and don't give much). There are better artists on itch.io.

    >>4108778
Depends on the personality of the gay person who owns it.
If they're into sadism, it may have chains on the wall or a bench with chains.
If they're a masochist, it might have a pole so that they can tie themselves up. In both of these cases there is probably going to be leather.

Dildos, lubrication fluid, posters of muscular man wearing strings and man bikinis essentially. (sexualizing the male shape, etc.) They may have a sock or pantyhose thing with a design specific for their penis, anything that stimulates basically.
and of course a place for their victim; maybe its a kidnapped unwilling person; maybe they get an extra high from that stuff. So ropes, cuffs, ...maybe toys to sissy the guy (or some girl clothes), etc.

    >>4108778
skidrow reloaded has rpg maker mz version 1.10 with a shit ton of dlc.
the other versions of rpg maker can be found much more easily, just google.
Personally I recommend 2003, XP or VX Ace. It's more fun to toy with the older version imo, in part due to the limitations, and in part because I don't like JavaScript and MV/MZ is waaaay too bloated imo.

Also as anon mentioned, you can give Wolf RPG Editor a try, but it's not recommended for a beginner. You need to understand how Events in RPG Maker work at the very least before going there.

    >>
    >>4110420
If you want to used them as tile graphics, yes. They were made for XP which allowed tilesets to be ridiculously tall.

You're using VX Ace which placed new tileset limitations, broken up between A through E.

Honestly most people would put doors on a character sheet to use as events. I guess it depends on what you want to combine.
It's not hard to configure tiles in a grid. It'll take you more time manually setting the passage tiles.

BCD and E tiles end up on the same layer,
    which means they overwrite eachother.

Place floor tiles and wall tiles in A.
Consider making some autotile wall / floor tiles.

You can also use script commands to force the tiles to be on a lower or higher tile level, but it's tricky (and so far I know, no one made a tool that can do this).

Also the top corner B tile has id 0, and is the default tile. It is the tile that is assigned to every tile and thus drawn on all tile layers when a map is made. You can use it as an eraser for the BCDE tiles, but not for A tiles.

"Millennial writing" should be called "wannabe grown-up writing".
Because it's criticizing the author more than the writing.

For example, they lean towards moral ambiguity because making bad guys do evil for the sake of evil is seen as "childish".
They use "therapy talk" because they want to sound smart.
And they references and meta-awareness because they want to sound cultured.

But I'd argue that these "writing sins" are acceptable in certain genres, and shouldn't be seen as reflections of the writers at all. When you have story frames within story frames, like diving into another character's mind, then self-awareness and psycho-therapy talk is expected, especially if it's meant to be a therapy session. The moral grey area of doing something "bad for good" is an understanding that the narrative is meant to reveal.

Fallout 1 should be the foundational foothold for any aspiring rpg dev. It does the ultima formula better than the earlier dragon quest games, and actually gives the player a lot of content to revisit on subsequent playthroughs. If you want to stick strictly to jrpgs though, then Wild Arms 1 & 2 to would be another good template.
    >>
    >>4112656
I think trauma bombing and trauma based writing is the current primary sin.
Every character in every game has some background lore that they must thrust into the player's face with "bad childhood experience" -- "still dealing with it" nonsense. They're constantly trying to get people to connect with them through sympathy for 'what happened to them', rather than what is happening or what they do.

    I think this is worse

    >>4112619
Just someone who posts about themselves, and nothing but reasons to make them seem great or impressive. In other words, a leech on the community.
There are people here, so he advertises and hopes someone praises them. If not he overwrites reality with imagination to still receive praise.
This same person overuses AI and other people's work + is of course focussed on story telling (also about traumas that happened to characters), and calls this a psychologically themed game. The characters never change or grow; it's a rinse repeat thing, which to be honest is accurate. Without therapy, people tend to remain stuck. That said, it makes it boring to read through.

ligma is a nickname, which some of those who hate him use; although apparently they have no clue why they hate him.
Just saying, but he does complete games, though they're walking sims, basically linear visual novels in rpg maker, bloated with plugins for visual effects, etc.

I think they're interesting works actually. They're okay to some even being impressive, but it doesn't need this much begging for validation.

Some accuse him of using this place as a blog, but I wouldn't go that far. It seems more like he's telling what is going on, or baiting people; albeit it with the goal of receiving praise, etc.

So you mentioned a couple of possibilities:
    > narcissism
The issue is that narcissism in itself doesn't make you hate someone. It might be self centered / self focussed behavior (speaking too much about oneself for example). Narcissism is just a sign of their lack of attention, care and a sense of belonging; so it is a sign of fear.
    > redditor
This is a more clear reason. "you use reddit, so I don't like you.", though it sounds silly.
    > scares off everyone
.... except that I don't see people actually stop talking when he posts, so that's ..
I guess it means you may feel like you shouldn't post or drop by anymore, because....
    > paragraphs
There are plenty of people who hate text walls, because it wastes their time to read though. (They rather make posts about themselves and read quick replies, looking for community.)
Long replies have a higher chance of containing negative input, so they reject all of it, which means... such people are themselves plagued by self centeredness. Forums end up acting 'for them', rather than for everyone 'in their vision'. When fora don't, they become mad.
    > Forum drama bullshit
Also a valid reason to dislike someone, but the issue is that drama causes drama. It just depends on which drama has the louder voice and which drama point (or point of view) is more accepted and validated.
Not accepting one aspect of drama while actively stimulating another is also a sign of self centeredness. "yours is the only one that has a place."

Basically as it stands, it seems more like you have your own issues around selfcenteredness. You want your points to be validated and want community to stand up for you and with you. You don't like it that someone who has the same desire is succesful and therefore competition / a threat. You not feeling as important as you think you deserve to feel is why I think you hate Sigma. The rest is just excuses to avoid realizing that.

Desiring care is fine and very human, just saying.

You don't entirely know what bits of your work are AI generated, considering you're using a ton of plugins and assets which have no verification on this. Steam has their own checking on it though, which will fail since companies try to outsmart such checking teams.

Grats on making it on Steam btw.
I might watch your steam store page later... not sure yet.

    >You don't entirely know what bits of your work are AI generated
I'm fairly certain of what's AI-generated & what's not in my game, since I've been playing with generative AI since it came to public & have developed the sense for it.

    >considering you're using a ton of plugins
Steam no longer requires disclosure on generative coding (unless in some edge cases).
Likely because majority devs or big-companies are all utilizing it.

    >Steam has their own checking on it though
By what I've researched, it seems Steam mainly just checks the store page and the assets there. And on launch, runs the game to see if it's playable past the Title-screen. That's it.
As long as nothing on the store-page (or user reports later) hints that my AI disclosure is inaccurate, I should be clear.

    >Grats on making it on Steam btw.
Not there yet, but super happy regardless! International payment gateways had been lacking in my country, so I'm happy just by the fact I am easily able to redirect earnings from my Patreon, and pay the Steam's submission fees on my own now.
A few years ago, I would have required a publisher for this. And would have lost my independence.

    >I expect some of the drama to happen on your Steam Hub and within reviews
Ehhh... I already made a reddit community, a discord community, and an itch.io forum for my games... and nothing much happened.
They tend not to cause drama in spaces where I have the control to delete their messages or ban them. They'll likely come and cause drama here and on the guilds forum, instead. XD (And possibly in the reviews too... maybe.)

    >I might watch your steam store page later... not sure yet.
Wanna be a mod of my Steam hub? XD
(Joking. I prefer not to make another person suffer in that way. So I'll handle it myself.)

    >>
    >>4125165
Goldberg replaces the steam api dll
which means it redirects connections to steam to your local machine.
There is also a dll that blocks all of the connections from going over the internet, so would also disable multiplayer, etc.
Basically, its like running a game in offline mode.

Steam cannot detect goldberg basically, and if it detects there is something wrong with the dll, then the validation system will simply update the file. It doesn't track that you replaced it.
Also, if the files exist outside of the steam folder, then steam has no way of doing anything to them in the first place.

gogunlocked is mostly okay... mostly. rpg maker isn't on gog though so I am not sure what they're holding.
I recommended skidrow reloaded instead in an earlier post.

Use an adblocker (ublock origin or adnauseum. adnauseum is better because it attacks ads instead of just preventing them from loading.)
no need for a vpn since your internet is already encrypted (tls)
feel free touse a vpn if you're worried about site tracking.

Whatever you pirate, scan the files with malwarebytes or eset internet security "and" windows defender. (use at least two antivirus solutions)
... or send the exe file to virus total.

Goldberg is the steam dll file. Like I said, replace it with the official one. idk what they did to it.

    RPG Craft when?
    >>
    I have been wondering something...
Why is it that Sigma's characters feel kind of ...uninteresting?

I think it is in part because the AI use causes them to be portrayed in many different styles, and them in a new outfit as such doesn't really feel special.

But there is a second thing that may be a me problem... but I think it's basically as if all of them are the same person. There is somewhat a different choice in words, but they all have the same or a similar opinion about some things. The only time they're not is when they speak to eachother, but thats basically like internal arguments.

There isn't anything that makes one character mad while the other character doesn't care at all, or finds it pleasant, or something like that. Also the behaviors are similar. People display emotions in different ways and differently per situation, but- there is basically 5 ways emotions get displayed; so it feels fixed.

The consequence is that they feel like puppets rather than characters at least.

It doesn't really matter that much for RPGs which are about 5 characters and the rest is background, but even those background characters have more interesting things about them, where one old guy is a pervert (stereotype I know but still) and the other is for whatever reason in love with some character in another town.

Considering his works are more chaarcter driven stories than games, it feels a bit at least. Exaggering an emotion (to make them clear) doesn't really change the emotion. The vibe of the room always leans towards one conclusion.
    >>
    *cough*
    >>
So, if I wanna add to VX Ace a machanic to make characters learn skill by fusing other skills which are consumed in the process, I just use Yanfly's Learn Engine and then call a Common Event to erase the base skills right?
    >>
    >>4129184
I disagree. I don't think his games are character driven. Author Allen Scott Card came up the MICE quotient to explore 4 main factors in story structure.

Characters are a factor in every story, but they're not always the point or focus.
    M.I.C.E.
    Milieu, Idea, Character, and Event.

False Awakening, being stuck in a dream, that's an "Idea".
False Narrative, being the subject of organized harassment, that's "Milieu".
False Rebirth, living in a post apocalyptic setting, that's an "Event" focus.
The Ruler, and Dogma & Liberty, are perhaps "Character" focused, but they're basically just a demo

These factors exist in different proportions to every story. Milieu is probably the weakest across most stories as mere subtext. But it's also probably the strongest in JRPGs. Because it's important context for fantasy and scifi speculative fiction. Generally NPC interactions are going to signal some kind of communal life (or lack thereof).

Fellas, how do you make an ingame "character customization" using only events (vx ace). I can easily implement adding actor2 to party then forcing the player to change the name, class, and starting equip, but how do you make it automatically move on to actor3, actor 4 and so on so forth with the same trigger
    >>
    >>4130183
Well, you already got Actor 2 sorted out. Just copypasta that shit afterward except replace all instances of Actor 2 with Actor 3, 4, etc.
    >>
    >>4125900
    but why erfbond
    >>
    >>4129521
False Awakening is about a character in his dream; so it explores his emotions, memories, feelings, etc. It's a character coming to terms with themselves essentially.
False Narrative is about the experience of a character, reacting to a hostile environment. It shows how the character goes from trying to be normal and accept it to outright banning them with the ban blade. The theme is the sense of helplessness, and feeling that it is now required to use the blade.

I haven't played the others, but they're all focussed on the characters and their inner selves. They're, in sigma's own words 'psychological'. Psychologically themed are inheritly character and their drama driven.

I don't really care about authors and their ideas. Games aren't books.

For games, there is a foundation. Based on that foundation.
Games that call themselves story driven and only spam narration and let the player walk tfrom scene to scene, don't even care about the environment all that much- except that it also serves the narration. This structure means inheritly that the background, the environment may as well be cut out and you get the same effect. The background, and evironment are basically christmas bells on a christmas tree.

And the player's only job is to flip the page in these. You walk from cutscene to cutscene, maybe solve a puzzle here and there, but that's it.
What are these games about then? Characters telling about their trauma. ... e.g. character driven. Their sole foundation is characters and some kind of trauma. Without that, there is no game. (because even the limited gameplay doesn't matter and could be cut out, you'd still get a similar experience.)

Sure feels like it. Despite how many examples exist of how to make a platformer, it's still pretty stressful having everything so tightly bound together. Trying to diagnose things like collision problems due to the exact order that shit fires off is hair-pulling. Not to mention trying to dial in physics by hand based purely on feel.
Though, having access to Maniacs ForEach->MEV is one of the biggest godsends for this since it saves at least one headache in accounting for things like spawning events. Also nice to be able to grab MEV names in strings rather than having to dump parameters as data into a page, though whether it's better or worse performance-wise is a crapshoot.

    Either is fine.
I planned to have her be called something different in each story/game. And Codex was sort of a placeholder name for me to use in her graphic files.
So when it came to addressing her outside the games, in the Arcade, which I had not planned for. I decided to switch it up to 'Codes'. As it sounded easier on the tongue to say, and sounded more relevant as a name/title for someone operating an Arcade.
    >>
    >>4130566
You started out asking why his characters weren't interesting. Their emotions and interactions are a narrative issue.
I think you should stick to that topic.

A lot of RPGs give characters traumatic backstories and emotional baggage. Like, "a dingo ate my baby!"
And then you visit that character's hometown, and they're like "that's the dingo that ate my baby!"
So then you slay the dingo. And the character gets closure, and maybe some dingo fur boots or something.
    >>
    >>4131350
There isn't much else to say, which is why the reply I got went about how I misplaced the games as character driven.
Strangely it seems indeed that people aren't disagreeing with the character narration being the issue. It is difficult for one person to come up with personalities, points of views, etc. I suppose this is especially true for someone who is preoccupied with themselves, since they literally only have themselves as a point of view to look on the world from.

I think most RPGs handle character lore better at least, sometimes as you said as some kind of side quest or event.

I also think there is an overreliance on sympathy in games. Characters seemingly must have had something bad happen to them in the past, and they must dump this on you, otherwise you won't relate nor care about them. For whatever reason modern games cannot create a character that is liked for the things they do in game, or be liked without having some traumatic past.

I supppse there's the case of millinnial writing. You can do a story that's all flashbacks, discovering the past. But it gets old fast.
You got to give the characters something to do in the present. Like "healing".
I can think of a lot of "psychological" games where the characters run around in these spiritual or mental plains and fight the literal manifestation of their ghosts and demons. But that doesnt leave alot of space to live in the present. You get uplifting music and some sentiments about turning towards dawn, the future is bright, ect... that's usually where the story ends.

With adventures and and rpgs, the passage of time is a fuzzy. The characters are always reminiscing and dredging up memories during their quest. They don't heal, they open old wounds.
The story is not asking you to sympathize with the hero just because his father disappeared when the hero was a child. The hero is over it; he thinks his father is dead. To no one's surprise, the father will reappear, probably on team bad guy. Sometimes used as a missing person mystery. Like, they're not really looking for him, but the story drops hints that he's alive somewhere.

The community was strongest during the XP days and you had a lot of non-porn, non-RTP flip games. Not to say they didn't exist back then, they certainly did, but the more flexible the engine gets, the less effort gets put into it.
    >>
    >>4136157
It's getting there. I haven't tried it yet, but the latest OpenAI model can apparently open your software and work in Blender, or draw in MsPaint.

So in theory they could follow the techniques used to make tiles tileable, and formatted to the engines resource standards. By "hand".

The current image generators have limited outputs, so pixel art comes out at like x8 scale. Some assembly required.
It can also just generate a full game map. You draw a forest maze, screenshot it, give it to image generators and do a image-to-image prompt to make it an Underwater Coral maze. And then just use that as a parallax. No tileset required.
Do we need it to be a tileset? The concept of tilesets comes from the SNES days when games needed to be as compressed as possible. The difference between a tileset.png and a parallax.png in file size is negligible today. PS5 games ship out that are 90gb unoptimized "slop"; I suspect is a form or "peg warming" that toy manufactures used to do. They don't have to worry about competition if they take up all the shelf space.
Although with RM games, I delete games and demos after I play them. So what do I care if your game is 200MB bigger than it needs to be?

Outside of "resources", MV and MZ datafiles are all just JSON files. AI doesn't need to navigate the RM Editor to work on your project. For the last 2-3 years you could give it those files and have it insert dialogue and event commands or new database entries.
With today's agentic AI models, it can actually look at the tilesets and understand the relationship between a bed, and a string of tileIDs in the map data, and generate a map with a bedroom.

I'm new to rpg maker, I saw an anon say
    >NTA but I just use chatgpt for ruby scripts. 4o could sorta do it it function-by-function if you held its hand all the way, but gpt-5 onwards is just fine and will only screw up 10-15% of the time. Just remind it "Rpgmaker vx ace script using RGSS3 and ruby 1.9" before it starts so it doesn't try doing more recent ruby. It still will now and then, but if you feed it the error line it will notice it's using the wrong ruby version and get fixed up quick.
so when I wanted to make a first aid kit that had 3 uses I put in
    >Rpgmaker vx ace script using RGSS3 and ruby 1.9, I want to make a script that gives an item charges such that one charge is used up on each use, but when the charges are at 0 the item remains and can be recharged
and it gave me code that worked and then further options like asking what other scripts I had that might interfere or if I wanted to instance each item
    >>

    XP was great because:
    A. it was around and supported for along time.
    B. The barrier of entry was low, but not too low; artists still had to care, coders still had to care, etc.
    C. No AI. (the issue is that you don't need to give a damn to get something working and people were far less entitled to being complimented, etc.)

So if you like that, then choosing to try and dev using AI is a weird one, because it just makes things worse.

    >How to AI
For code, extract the code, let the AI read it, make sure it assumes Ruby 1.8.2 (the documentation is lacking so, you're going to need to hand hold constantly and correct shit)
Also make sure you tell it not to use external gems, or even suggest those or suggest upgrading ruby. (AI is annoying, just saying)
let it read the code and then make something based on it.

Otherwise you may get stupid results.

Also remove any commands that close rpg maker prematurely.

    For Art
Grab a couple of templates and images, and then ask AI to generate based on those.

You'll need money for claude or whatever you're going to use. You'll also be shunned, for rewarding and thus causing more of those data centers in people's backyard + piracy. It's not your code, you have no clue how it is licensed. Its not your art either, so also no clue on the license. etc.

Have you seen the recent interview with the different Rpg Software devs talking about the future of Ai and how they're quickly becoming obsolete?

Smoking Wolf was the most real. And acknowledged that people were not using these RPG tools to make RPGs.

Meanwhile Ichinose, was phoning it from 2012 or something. Answering every question plugging "Yumi Nikki" or "To the Moon". Maybe that was a response to Smoking Wolf, because those were also not RPGs.
Then his strategy for the future was to sell to 50-60 year olds. Who does he think has been using their software for the last 30 years?

They talk about how AI can be applied to game development. But none of them were humble to say AI can also identify problems in their own software, and can search the internet and see the 30 years of user complaints they've never addressed. Understand why people are using AI in the first place. And who's shunning who.

it's not an absurd reason, it's actually the same reason i don't play AAA garbage. games made by committee always end up losing their individuality, the bigger the committee the worse it gets until you eventually end up with something that has zero identity other than perhaps the IP it's based on such as the recent wolverine game, in which wolverine himself could be replaced with kratos and you'd lose absolutely nothing.
ai allows innocent retards to basically do the same thing except the problem is magnified one thousand fold. you can't feel any true intent from a project that uses ai, you can only picture some guy sitting at a computer, picking his nose as he types

    >oh but what's the difference!
    >THAT guy uses stuff other people made
    >I use ai resources, which were generated by combining everyone else's work, so it's the same thing!
but it's not the same thing. someone who drew an anime babe with just a tiny bit of her tummy showing because her shirt is too tight, they did that for a reason, because they personally love that and wanted it to be there. meanwhile the person who's using ai generated resources has zero idea of any of the actual details of the work. there will be things in "your" "work" that your audience will point out to you that you didn't even know about yourself.
and don't even get me started on story. how can you possibly be able to speak authoritatively on your characters' stories and actions when you're not even the one who wrote them? the audience's guess is just as good as yours! if someone asked me why character x did what he did in scene y, i could passionately and excitedly talk about that for half an hour. meanwhile, some guy with ai writing his story for him isn't even going to fucking remember the scene that person is asking about, let alone why any of it even happened.
you're only robbing yourself. you should try making your own work for once.

How about instead of asking AI, ask a search engine before AI was around to see if there are problems with their software.
Here's a truth: if problems existed 30 years ago and they didn't address it, then AI will not help them fix these. Instead, they'll keep these problems around because-- a fix is easier than making new software, and the japanese are scammers. They rather sell the exact same software again with some fixes, instead of selling the best product from the start.

That is why you have Sonic Adventure, then sonic adventure DX. And with RPG Maker, VX, and then VX Ace. because my my... money!

AI doesn't help you scam by default so they'll have a hard time with it.

What is wrong with you? I have no clue what you're on about with this Ar Tonelico nonsense.

You can't tell I was just complaining about AI?
and of course the commercialization of the community?

I complained about DLC, price tags and obfuscation of code before in another thread, sure. But Agentic AI made the issue worse. Right now its very easy for people to release absolute trash to people with a price tag, and then pretend they made it, even though they have no ownership over the copyright of the code the AI copied from somewhere. Not to mention, the shit performance.

Have you seen how other react to his work: https://www.reddit.com/r/RPGMaker/comments/1xd3vy2/ed5_card_game_maker_make_your_own_card_battler_in/
It just points out how laughable it is.

Speaking of which, he's also making another game engine and importing RPG Maker assets into this. This of course is against every RPG Maker EULA, which means he's a software pirate, but it's more fun to get him into legal trouble when he's somewhat close to done, so that the impact is bigger.

I'm not sure how you're even thinking of it being some kind of job application request, why would you want to work with someone who is primarily interested in boasting themselves up and promotes construction of noisy data centers that keep poor US citizens awake at night?

    Read it.

I see their opinion isn't pro-AI, rather it is pro-fun. If you find it fun to use AI, then by all means use AI to develop games.

The thing is though, people who have fun making content or games, even with AI, are not going to produce low quality trash. If they find a bug, they'll fix it. People who have fun are more likely invested enough to even learn about the code backend, instead of skipping over it. Meaning, they at least do something instead of waiting for output and claim it as their own.

People don't release something with a price tag for fun though. They release it with a monetary insentive, and to produce sales, they're going to ramp up the amount of things they release, decrease the time it takes to release these, etc.

    Money + AI corrupts.

An arabian prince and an oil shack are fighting over their AI slop on which is better: Who is going to be the winner?
The answer: The datacenter business, nvidia, claude, etc.
Who's the loser: The locals living near the datacenter, increased electricity prices, less water, noise pollusion.

It's one of the most basic features of Maniacs. You can also change it from the System2 tab.
The battle system is and will always be the biggest mistake of 2k3 in general. BingShan was developing a full-blown Maniacs 2k replacement battle system at one point (available only from the Maniacs Patch discord), but it's not without its problems and should be considered highly experimental. The 2k3-based editor is also not really set up for manipulating the 2k battle system which I don't think is something that patched version accounts for yet.

It's all written in Javascript and the source code for the replacement battle system is right there once you get your hands on it.

It does just about everything most devs who are actually "maniac" users want it to do. Most people who care about the 2k default battle system will just use 2k anyway and aren't averse to going full default. Abandonware or not, it's just lucky we got what Maniacs provides before BingShan gave up.
    >>
    >>4139411
That here is the reason I'm sticking to 2k, even if it means missing on the improvements brought by 2k3 and Maniacs
2k's dbs is not perfect my any means, it's really locked down and has some weird quirks when it comes to things like buffs and debuffs for example, but it absolutely is possible to make something fun with it, especially if you get creative with battle events. On the other hand 2k3's ATB makes me want to press alt+f4 faster than the speed of light regardless of if I'm deving or if I'm just a player.
For anyone like me who's not that technically advanced when it comes to complicated eventing and such, I'd say just stick to 2k. 2k3+maniacs is great but only really if you're planning or making your own crazy cbs, or if you're making something with alternative gameplay like your plateformer.
    >>
    >>4140512
Honestly, even for advanced shit, 2k can be made pretty usable with a few basic patches to the exe (pic pointer patch being the big one). It's still missing important stuff like built-in v[v[x]] for conditions and spritesheets, but the former is just a matter of discipline/having a dedicated set of generic variables for handling it. The latter is solved by PicPointerPatch providing the alternative of replacing the last 4 digits this is the better way to do it in stock S2k3 anyway since large spritesheets present performance issues in a hurry for some reason.
If I could ever figure out how to get the TPC compiler to play nice with 2k's database, it'd be even nicer. As it stands, I can't figure out what part of the database blueprints need to be tweaked in order to get it to compile directly, though the Map and Map Tree work just fine. Being able to bypass the pain of actually writing swathes of event code in the 2k editor would make it a lot more appealing.

Just figured out the blueprint issue and got TPC to compile directly into 2k. I know this is of interest to less than a fraction of the already minuscule percentage of users but the tl;dr is:
    >entry 1 of the battle trigger defs should be i8 instead of i16 (2k has simpler battle triggers than 2k3, necessitating an extra byte)
    >entries 1 and 3 of term defs are missing outright from 2k3 due to a difference in battle strings and just need to be added in with the other defs as "1: str" "3: str"
Don't even need to delete the "extra" fields like classes, animation2, not even stringvar, which came as a surprise to me.

If I fail to appreciate the one I have, what's to say I'd appreciate the next one I'd switch to?
Hence, I find that RPG Maker's limits are a feature, not a bug. And I appreciate them.

    >your game looks too good for it
    Thank you. (T_T)
I just happen to create these 3D bits because I recently found out I could.
RPG Maker MV was built upon some open source technologies, that are continuously being worked on & updated & optimized.
Allowing me to do more, and expand the capabilities of my RPG Maker over time.

It's fun to play with, easy to use, & limiting to work with. Just like the rest of mainline RPG Makers.
+ It's easy to make things in U2U that look really good. (Perhaps it just appears that way because it's new. And it may wear off over time...)

    >It seems it will use LUAU
Doesn't matter to general RPG Maker users. Who are not programmers and choose RPG Maker specifically to avoid programming.

Unite, mostly. But since this is a standalone software built with Unity -- instead of *requiring* Unity -- I think this is a step in the right direction.
    >It's fun to play with, easy to use, & limiting to work with. Just like the rest of mainline RPG Makers.
    >+ It's easy to make things in U2U that look really good. (Perhaps it just appears that way because it's new. And it may wear off over time...)
Yeah I had a similar impression, but it also looks good for standard 2D RPGM look. Some things are a little annoying however, such as trees animations all starting in the same frame when animated by the wind instead of having a random starting frame.
    >Doesn't matter to general RPG Maker users. Who are not programmers and choose RPG Maker specifically to avoid programming.
I agree, but sometimes you always need a custom solution here and there. LUAU seems less worse than JS, but I'd prefer something like C# since it's using Unity anyway.

RPGM U2U is just Unite Ace
    >the future
depends on what you mean? Will it be RPG Maker Reddits main occupation? Likely..
Will it be used by hardcore game devs? Unlikely... the reason is because it is still unity and unity is pushing for:
    - AI
    - Ads in games
    - DLC
    - Crappy EULAs that change price tag on the go
    etc.
It's still Epic, Tim Sweenie, etc. So, of course people will avoid it.

Kadokawa should have made RPG Maker Godot imo.
    >Programming languages
U2U supports JavaScript as well unfortunately using the same crappy plugin system as MZ. In fact they're trying to make the plugins almost the same so that people can easily move plugins for MZ to U2U.
LUAU is the main scripting language yeah
    but it also supports C#.

I suspect it will get plagued with AI coded nonsense, which will also push away users.
The fact is a lot of Roblox games are made with AI and often copied from other people, demos on Steam for example, or even Tweets. LUAU is a roblox thing, so I suspect a bunch of games to get 'ported to U2U', and then people pretending it is awesome, not realizing this is how the end of the gaming era begins.

My thought ssummarize to: It's shit.

    >Will it be used by hardcore game devs? Unlikely... the reason is because it is still unity
Anon, "hardcore" game devs don't really care about the points you've mentioned, they just want to get things done. It's mostly indies that complain about anything, specially about AI. In reality, the fact that it's unity might actually encourage that userbase to give U2U a chance.
    >Kadokawa should have made RPG Maker Godot imo.
Godot is usually not very stable, and it's mainly c++ and gdscript. You can be much more productive by making tools with C#, and Unity's editor is made using their own C# ui framework. Most importantly, there's also the matter of support: Godot relies on the community, whereas unity can provide some dedicated channel for japanese devs.
    >U2U supports JavaScript as well unfortunately using the same crappy plugin system as MZ. In fact they're trying to make the plugins almost the same so that people can easily move plugins for MZ to U2U.
I see they have created the concepts of editor plugins and runtime plugins. The former can also call the latter. I think they're setting up a good base for building what could be a very nice ecosystem.
    >LUAU is the main scripting language yeah
    >but it also supports C#.
    This is actually really nice.
    >I suspect it will get plagued with AI coded nonsense, which will also push away users.
This is bound to happen to all engines with plugin systems. Inexperienced people will always generate AI slop, but people that know what they're doing will likely produce something usable.

Anyway, I hope I didn't sound like a douchebag. Your concerns are all valid, I just have a good feeling about the direction they're heading with it.

by hardcore, I meant 'taking it seriously' mainly, not for the financial insentive or for popularity or whatever. It wasn't supposed to be like triple A or people who skip out on game engines or something. I mean there is even a spectrum within videogame hardcore difficulty communities, but what they do share in common is that they don't cheat or try to cheese (usually at least).
or play it in a lazy way, just for views, popularity or donations.

What is the goal of your game?
You're literally just adding stuff woithout any reason for it to be there at this point, which is bad.

You need a purpose for the game. That will help figure out where to go from here. Like, how do you want the player to experience this game? What are the fun aspects that the player should ineract with, what are the story elements you want to tell the player.
Try making it fun for the player as they go towards this goal.

    The issue is
It's overwhelming and overflowing with those, so any handcoded plugins will be unnoticed.

vibecoders constantly, constantly advertise. They make a site, set up a cloudflare R2 host for their files or whatnot, spam reddit, etc.
I mean 'caspergaming' cannot help for example to spam "join my forum" with every single one of his posts, though he twists that comment slightly to make people more likely to join, but you get the point.

They're walking ads. They're the ad business in the RPG Maker scene basically.
because attention, importance, praise, fame, money .. and being shielded from critique by their followers and braindead people.

You can't win, unless you literally start your own site / community, and then you would win only there.

Well, I'm not going to lie and tell you that it's easy. Without having banged my head against RPGM and made many a custom menu/battle/other things in it, I'm not sure I'd fully appreciate or understand why having TPC to LARP as a programming language is so good.

What I can tell you is that the 2k/2k3 editor makes YOU remember things, while this lets the computer remember them for you. That's its true power. Instead of saying "v[1337] = 69" and needing to remember what it is and where you used it, you can tell the compiler once where it is and give it a name:
    >defv MyVariable = 1337
    Then, you can just write
    >MyVariable = 69

The payoff comes later on when you decide 1337 isn't where you wanted it. Going raw in the editor, you'd have to open every event to hunt down every place you used v[1337] and change it to its new home. In TPC, you just scroll back up to where you defined it and change it to something like
    >defv MyVariable = 420
The compiler sees every place where you used MyVariable and automatically slots in the new number without you having to worry about it.

Another benefit is that it makes every bit of code you write easier to reuse or share. If I wanted to send one of the /vrpgm/ OGs like Ojosama or Retinacyst a useful module, I could give it to them in a way that they can import into their project that wouldn't clash with their existing stuff.

And with 2k in particular... working directly in the editor is suffering incarnate. Sure, Maniacs is better in every way, but there's a certain charm and allure of the simpler "classic" 2k that is more fun to work with when you aren't hamstrung by the extremely clunky editor.

nta but this is basically telling me I'm not actually using the TPC right. I've just been using it as the thing I open with F2 and F3 when I don't want to have to deal with the command UI. However you set this thing up, I have no idea, but revealing that I don't have to be limited to the retarded Switch/Variable array is tempting me to beg you to spoonfeed me on how to actually set it up and make it work.

    >How do I stop being depressed and push myself to start making my game?
    A couple of options:
    1. Believe in God, become a Muslim. It'll give you purpose in life, help you realize your life is directed by God (the greatest solo-developer in existence), and it'll help you with your game dev to take Him as inspiration. To direct the lives of your characters in a similar way as God does with yours.
    2. Make a game with your self-insert fighting / expressing / addressing depression you're dealing with. And don't end the story until you address (in the game) how / where it started and until your in-game character resolves it and overcomes it.
    3. Motivation is directly linked to eating habits. So start water fasting. Eat once a day. Or eat a day and skip the next. If your body feels less fulfilled (via prolonged periods of non-eating due to water fasting), your body will become more active & motivated & you'll feel sharper. (And your depression will be pushed down at the back of your mind) It's your body's way of getting you to get energetic and become smarter so you can acquire more food. But instead of acquiring more food, you use the enhancements (of motivation) to work on a game.

Argon hasn't been out long. 2-3 weeks? But it's a big leap forward. I've had models make mock-up database entries before. But you always had to do it in baby steps. They weren't smart enough to assign appropriate icon ids from a sheet. And stats were chosen at random.

But Argon can look at the icon sheet and pick out the right elemental icons for elemental skills.
    >Argon + Antigravity
It can create an entirely new database of actors, classes, items, skills, equipment, enemies, and troops with balanced stats ranging from level 1-99. 1 prompt, it's done in like 10-20minutes.

It can also create a map with the tilesets. But it's usage isn't unlimited, so I wouldn't recommend it.

A year or 2 ago I vibecoded this mindmap thing for RPG Maker. It was super basic. It places nodes, you type in names, you add a picture. You connect the nodes with lines.
There was a lot to be desired, but I was satisfied with the fact it only took an afternoon. Argon took that and added like 100x more QoL features.

I'm always telling people how foolish it is to ask artists to make generator parts, when the artist can just draw the character for you. Well, that's where I'm at with AI. I had it make a tool, so I can manually create a mindmap myself. But it can just do it itself.

Give it a transcript of a game or movie, it'll plot out all the characters and relationships for you in under a minute.
