The saddest thing I heard was a podcast, where someone spoke with a voice synthesizer and was talking about games that inspired them. Omori. So the host brings up Omori two seconds later, and the person shifts like "Oh, I've never played it."

    Can RPG maker handle DRPGs?
What about transitions between a first person dungeon and a third person overworld like Ultima?
    >>
    >>4071517
I remember one schizo-cored/"weird"(don't remember actual name, but there was that leafy dryad looking gal that hanging out with protag for most of the game) game that was from first-person perspective and i suppose counts as DRPG, so this type of games definitely possible. Not sure about perspective transition though
    >>
    >>4071517
Definetively on MV/MZ, First-Person Dungeon Crawler, Blobber, whatever you wanna call them have custom scriptss for RPGMaker XP and VXAce but the plugin called "MZ3D" for RPGMaker MZ is the easiest and most stable one to use.
I think you can easily find a download link for the paid version online since the free version is missing a few small features.

Didn't encounter any bugs in my attempt at playing through it, but it's have a issue of getting kind of sluggish. Like, you go through the city and then a settlement where you get your first companion, and after this the rest of the game is basically you just walking through various area without much talkative-npc, and fighting enemies.(which is not even really hard, if you grind on the constantly respawning group of soldiers before leaving the city)

I don't remember specifics at this point. I played it when it released I think and made it a substantial way through, only to find out that I could not progress and it seemed to be a somewhat notable occurrence.
    >after this the rest of the game is basically you just walking through various area without much talkative-npc, and fighting enemies
Yeah. I got 9 hours in it. I know what the basic gameplay loop is like lol I did go back at some point to try and replay but did not get far (don't know why).

    >How was the story?
My fault for not being more specific, i never finished it as well. Like i said, there is not that much dialogues/plot advancement after you leave the settlement and to roam the map. Maybe it gets better by the end of the game, idk.

Is anyone there tried playing one of the German 'maker games? I wanted to play in Vampires Dawn but kinda got scared away by "saving being a very limited resource you need to grind for" retarded mechanic.
    >>
    >>4078046
I like Vampires Dawn, they're filled with jank and soul but they are very much games where you can effectively softlock yourself yes. The most effective way to play is also very unintuitive.
    >>
    >>4078092
    >The most effective way to play is also very unintuitive
I wouldn't say grinding goblins and wolves on a world map before doing story missions is that much unintuitive, but it's sure is annoying. Like genuinely, already on one of the first story mission you get betrayed by an evil asshole who turn you into vampire and his gf, and forced to fight your way out of place alone through hard enemies who you totally can't beat if you didn't prepare yourself for it previously.
    >>
    >>4077977

It's really a shame the game is practically forgotten now, and the dev doesn't give a shit about remaking it. I'm playing it rn and having a blast

I've been playing some old RPG Maker games I was nostalgic for lately, largely due to this guy remastering the Legion Saga trilogy (third one is still in progress, near completion I think?) https://pmcdc.itch.io/

Legion Saga is a trilogy of games made in RPG Maker in like 2002 to 2004, very obviously inspired by Suikoden. The first one is very "babby's first RPG Maker game" but the second one is a huge step up. Obviously written by a teenager but very endearing in that way. These remasters toss in the EasyRPG executable, fix bugs, update a bunch of menus and such, and include a bonus dungeon in each game. Saves transfer from game to game for extra stuff. Worth checking out if you have any nostalgia or curiosity for that period of time in RPG Maker history.
    >>
    >>4081075
Sadly nobody will fan translate the ALTERED version which has far more mechanics and an easier to navigate battle interface.
    >>
    >>4069919
This list should be updated. There's a couple of games that have been translated for a while.

    1. El sueno de la razon has very little text, but what there is is already in english.
    2. Utahonotatari
    3. Tobira no Densetsu
    4. Kagami no akuma

These last two were translated by the same team that does towelket. Speaking of which, has anyone played yorumorukimiri? I remember reading it is like 40 hours long, and it also has been translated like a couple of days ago.

All the things I hear of Towelket makes me think it falls off super hard after the first 3 games.
    >>
    >>4092974
It doesn't. In fact a lot of the later games are leagues better than the first three but are hardly talked about for some reason
    >>
    >>4092723
Did you never play past 3? Later games still feel very "towelket" at their core (mostly because of how the characters are reused as actors with associated traits and all of that), but they're definitely not just as "quirky" as, say, towelket 3.

    >>4092974
It picks up with the spin offs. Nekoashi Otome is closer in spirit to the first games in terms of humor and how it tugs your gut unexpectedly at times, but Laughing Warawau is probably the best game made by the author using the RM2k engine. Dekapari is also pretty neat. The other newer games are kind of shitty, but I definitely recommend playing at least these 3. If you liked 2 and 1, you will definitely find those games are on the same level or even above in terms of quality.
    >>
    >>4093048
At the end of the day, everyone is just sick of this japanese quirk chungus garbage. That is why your Slopket has no lasting legacy even compared against the simplest Western RPGM releases like Look Outside. It's pitiful that the Japanese can't come up with something even 10% as compelling despite their decades-long headstart.
    >>
    >>4093052
    >>
Everytime Towelket is brought up in one of these threads all you retards say is "its good oh actually some are bad but play the good ones" and never elaborate beyond a screenshot of an anime girl saying "Fuck". I'm open to all kinds of things but the way this game's own fans feel the need to shove themselves into every conversation without actually saying anything of substance makes me think they couldn't even sell a severely dehydrated man a bottle of water.
    >>
    >>4093104
It's because the kind of "gamer" who plays Sludgeket isn't interested in playing a game at all. They'd be better served reading a webcomic or manga or literally anything besides a game. They want to "be part of the discussion" without actually having to put forth the bare minimum of effort to be part of it.
    >>
Real Towelheads rate 6 and 0 (I will not elaborate)
    >>
    >>4093114

I tried to play Warawau and got bored to death, the plot is just schizo for schizo sake, the chars have zero charisma in contrast with the other entries, and the ending utterly shits the bed (pun intended) as it completely nullifies everything what happened prior to. Calling it the best rmk2 towelket is a very delusional take imo.
    >>
    >>4093333
You probably weren't really paying attention to anything that was going on but I have a feeling explaining this to you is a lost cause. There's plenty of substance there for those who actually want to engage with it instead of sitting around and waiting for a loli to get raped.

Really its the only Towelket game I've actually liked
    >>
    >>4093345

    >>

What I don't understand is how Towelket 3 is consistently brought up as one of the good ones when its fucking terrible. It's just as meandering and obnoxious as Towelket 6. Both are impossible to enjoy unless you're really into pixelated loli rape.

4, Fury and 5 might not be as good as 2 and 1 but they easily clear Towelket 3 lol

    >>
    File: dekapari.png (811 KB, 1236x958)
    811 KB PNG
Dekapari is one of the best games in the series but most people haven't played it for whatever reason.

It's about the rape victim in Towelket 2 realizing she was made to suffer and deciding to inflict suffering onto everyone else instead. The atmosphere is great and despite the silly synopsis, it actually plays its premise pretty straight. The philosophical aspects run much deeper here than it does in Towelket 1. Honestly its all the more emotionally devastating when you're dealing with characters that have a bit more depth than a puddle. The dev's improvement over the years cannot be overstated.

Lmao, the dev intentionally paylocked it behind a japanese online shop which makes it nearly impossible to buy for third worlders.
The game however is really one of the better towelkets, for how silly the premise is it unexpectedly delivers a high rate existential horror. I only wish all the pseudo-convoluted lines with the cult were omitted as they barely add anything.

Some of the best German maker games are:
    - Unterwegs in Düsterburg (the quintessential German RPG Maker game, and dare I say: RPG Maker game in general.)
    - Vampires Dawn 1 and 2 (as you've already figured out)
    - Games by real troll such as:
    -- Die Reise ins All
    -- Wolfenhain
    -- Nachbarlicht

Out of all these, Wolfenhain is probably the most complete, fun and balanced experience. One of the best games I've had the privilege to play.
Its creator real troll is probably one of the best RPG Maker developers period. His writing is excellent and I'm saddened to see it be region locked.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game i played nearly 10 years ago
It was an RPG (probably made in RPGM or Wolf RPG, it def look like it) about an amnesiac knight wearing full armor waking up in a underground prison, i remember the first boss was sci-themed like another armored dude with a plasma rifle or something. After that you visit a castle and then some villages.

Out of curiosity I tried the game myself to see what you were talking about, and I’m sorry anon but you totally missed the point.

The ending isn’t supposed to be an actual conclusion to the game, it’s supposed to be something that recontextualizes everything that happens. Basically all of the crazy nonsense that happens in the game goes from meaningless garbage to something that actually makes sense. The ending isn’t a cheap trick, it’s the game telling you to look back at what happened previously and to try and make sense of things.

Maybe it only feels obvious to me because I literally spoiled myself on your post, but if you thought the game was just a bunch of random schizo shit and then a “cheap trick” then you weren’t actually paying any attention to the story. The game literally has hints to what the ending is going to be like 5 minutes in and the writing refers to it so much that I’d argue that the ending scene could be removed entirely and you could figure it out through sheer inference.

TL;DR: The ending is good. You just took everything way too literally and at face value
    >>
    >>4093427
I'm pretty sure the game is a manifestation of how the author feels about living with mental illness.
Warawau has a lot of money, but it doesn't really matter since she has Pucchi preventing her from enjoying it. The Laughing World is a twisted version of her reality, and inside of it she finds herself in situations she can't see herself doing like making friends and getting married. The way I interpreted the ending was the Laughing World punishing her for believing she could ever escape her situatuion. Much like how a person can fall back into their old habits even after getting better for awhile. There's a message from the author at the end of the game IIRC that says something along the lines of "I cannot make games anymore, this might be the last one" but I don't seem to have a screenshot of it, so take that with a grain of salt.
    >>
    >>4098222
You’re sort of right about some parts, like the game being about things Warawau wants, and the Laughing World being a reflection of the normal world, but you got a bunch of stuff mixed up.
The game is probably not about the Dev’s personal experiences with mental illnesses, nor does that message you’re talking about ever appear in the game.
Warawau almost certainly isn’t rich because the mansion is part of the Laughing World, and the Laughing World isn’t an entity that’s punishing her but instead it’s her ability to keep herself sane breaking away overtime due to her physical (not mental) illness. Everything that happens in the game is a result of what happened between her young childhood to the ending of the game, and pretty much every aspect of the Laughing World is a mix of Warawau’s desires/imagination and what Pucchi did to her over the years, which is what the game is trying to subtly tell you about. The fate of Warawau’s future isn’t told to you but the game actually seems to sort of lean towards something hopefully.
    >>
    >>4098241
    >The game is probably not about the Dev’s personal experiences with mental illnesses, nor does that message you’re talking about ever appear in the game.
I swear something like that appeared at the end of the english version, or something along those lines did. Maybe it was from Warawau's perspective and I misinterpreted it. I'll replay the game and show what I mean later. It's definitely not 1:1 with struggling with mental illness, but there are enough similarities to make me raise an eyebrow given the context of the dev allegedly having schizophrenia.
    >>4098241
    >Laughing World isn’t an entity that’s punishing her but instead it’s her ability to keep herself sane
The Chrysalis Maiden and Orchuma shit came across that way. The fact that Nyanyamo is playable towards the end makes me think the whole thing was a demonic entity fucking with Warawau. If the game was entirely from her perspective, I'd see your point. But Nyanyamo falling off at the end there makes me think the whole thing was a curse put upon Warawau, metaphorical of her condition rather than it just being entirely in her head.
    >>
    >>4098206
    >I’d argue that the ending scene could be removed entirely and you could figure it out through sheer inference.
It'd make for good theorybait. I found the game hinted enough that the only real question before the reveal was what illness it was.
    >>

Yeah i'm gonna have to live with this tiny-ass unknown game in the back of my mind for the rest of my life
    >>
    >>4098241
The message was "Regarding the stories I produce... My rusting body has become strange and such a thing is no longer possible. My thoughts, too, have become clouded."
You could take this at face value of only Warawau saying this, but given the context of how Kanao has treated his work in the past, and with Laughing Warawau's release being after the whole thing with Towelket 5, Fury, and Towelket 5 (again), it makes the game seem parallel to the author's struggles. This is the same guy who's ended multiple games with "This sucked." and has posted about hearing voices. It's pretty easy to connect that quote to Kanao, especially since it's at the end of the game.
    >>
    >>4098222
While I don't really subscribe to this theory myself, I have always wondered if some of the wilder imagery in that game was based on the creator's own experiences. Specifically the overlays and little gross creatures constantly sprinting across the screen in certain areas. Perhaps it just meant to invoke a feeling of disgust and disorientation but from what little I know about visual schizophrenic hallucinations, stuff like that is much more accurate to the average hallucination than demons telling you to kill your entire family or whatever

Lol she's more than just rape victim in 2, she's basically the dev's teddy bear for venting. She's being raped/killed/mutated /cloned/cucked in almost every entry. In this regard Dekapari feels more like a cursed homage to Madoka, where she got tired to suffer for everyone's sins and decided to make everyone suffer instead.

    Towelket 6 never existed
    >>
    >>4110291
I would say no. Some games hit hard, but it really depends on the entry.
I'd say you should play towelket 1, it's nowhere near as bad as towelket 2, although the philosophical themes it touches upon do graze on the concept of existential horror when you think 2 seconds about the story.
Feel free to skip towelket 6 because it's really underbaked. The author was going through a mental breakdown and it barely makes sense.
Towelket 4 is so-so, it has more gameplay than the other games (open world and more focus on the RPG elements, but don't expect anything crazy). The story is kind of bittersweet, but nowhere on the level of towelket 2.
Fury is a huge shitpost, it's closer in style to towelket 2, but a lot more raw. It's pretty much a big "fuck you" from the author.
Towelket 5 is another shitpost, but a light-hearted one. I also think you should skip this on if you're not feeling the humor.

Nekoashi Otome is definitely more light-hearted story, but it does have it's moments where it punches you in the gut when you least expect it. There's a considerable improvement in the characterization of its actors and also a step-up in the narrative / storytelling.
Laughing Warawau gets a lot more cryptic, but it's very rich if you like games that require you to analyze the small details to fully understand the story (think of something like silent hill, where there's a lot of symbolism that maybe you don't understand at first but you eventually figure out what was really happening all along was spelled right from the start). The ending can hit like a rock, but the character interactions are very fun, so I'd say it's also bittersweet.
Fishing for the moon leans more on the romantic side, lots of characters that you can date and stuff. That being said, it's not really good as a dating sim; a lot of the routes repeat the same info, and there isn't much variation with the events. I don't think this game is meant to make you feel sad, even if some bad things happen.
    >>
    >>4113694
    (cont.)
Yorumorukimiri is basically a visual novel with rpg battles sprinkled here and there. It has some very solid moments. I don't think I could seriously qualify this game as "sad" even though the events it portraits can be quite brutal, but it does have plenty of time to explore the characters and the events that led them to where they are.
Dekapari is weird, It feels very nostalgic, and honestly it probably has some my favorite character interactions in the whole series, but it also is very difficult to understand. I think it basically plays with a lot of metanarrative elements, playing with the themes and things that we see in towelket 2 and towelket 1, but giving it a new twist and essentially making PPU get her revenge at this universe for fucking her over and over again in every other entry. It also has a pretty grim portrayal of life on the same levels of existential horror as towelket 1.
The doggie game is super light hearted, almost boringly so. The remaining games are kind of shit except for light magic 2. I can't recommend playing them unless you're already interested in experiencing all the games in the series.
    >>
    >in Towelket 1 the game marks the objects that you can interact with, except for one that is required to progress to chapter 7

Elaborate what "not working at all" means here.
    >>
Hypothetically speaking if you were to advertise your rpg maker game on this thread without making it sound to “advertisey” would it still be considered a crime on here?
(Like would a simple “play my game” post be illegal?)
    >>
    >>4127506
It will ensure that I leave a negative review.

Does weapon level (the one you need to upgrade them, 鍛錬度) level in hatworld just not rise with dual wield gems? Because it sure looks like it but doesn't seem to be mentioned even on atwiki so maybe I'm doing something else wrong?

    >>4126556
For me it was the opposite, JP version though. I swear even the chink fork of LE never actually works when I need it, always end up having to hard change locale and/or even the entire OS display language to play niche shit.

    I'm rather sure it does.
    >>
    >>4129605
I really should have tested out a one hand weapon/gem before asking, but yeah it doesn't seem to have changed anything. Maybe it's a weapon rank vs enemy rank issue or something like that, because I tried out a rank 1 gun, and it did level a bit, but the rank 11 akimbo I stole from kelly and put on tsubasa have been sitting at zero for 18 mastery levels by now.

    >>4129722
    >the rank 11 akimbo
Oh, those don't level at all. Not sure why, but it's probably to balance out how strong they are and how easy it is to get them compared to other rank 11 weapons. (Guns in general are also the weapon category with the worst leveling.)
    >>
    >>4129722
Higher rank weapons do level but it's incredibly slow, You're supposed to use the Fatima OoPArt to raise their rank instead.

Is there a single RPGM game that DOESN'T revolve around you starting in some random house as an isekai-self-insert who wanders around a town for 4 hours doing meaningless slice-of-life puke-shit and actually has you doing actual adventuring, questing, and exploring?

Or are they all just tranny games where you meander aimlessly "taking it in" and then abandon it after 5 hours?

Elden Ring (you emerge from a tomb - here's the world for you), Baldur's Gate 3 (you wake up on a flying ship that's crashing), Tales of Arise (starts in a prison with a breakout), The Witcher 3 (straight into a fight with a griffin), Fallout 3 (immediately out of the vault into a huge world).

Games like A Blurred Line and The Way were some of my favorite things back around 2004-2007. Also played Legion Saga, Crazy Guy's Journey, Three the Hard Way (though I never finished it), Ara Fell (ditto) and a bunch of others including many I'm forgetting. Haven't played anything more recent than that or anything non-English outside of obvious stuff like Yume Nikki and Off. Anyone else remember all that old stuff? What were your favorites from the English-language scene ~20 years ago?

I only played through a couple times ~20 years ago. It had a much more involved story than any other RPG Maker game I remember from the time. I was fine with the endings (all of them ultimately give a conclusion to Rhue's story), but I would have still liked a sequel or spinoff explaining some unanswered questions, like what Gaius was up to or where all of the other swords are and where they came from.

Old 2k3: Yes. Worse default battle system, worse RTP, too few meaningful changes to the editor to make it a worthwhile upgrade over 2k, no performance improvements for the event interpreter.

Modern 2k3: No. While the default battle system is still trash, Steam2k3 added significant upgrades for people interested in developing custom systems (variable pic layer, spritesheeting, variable filename substitution for pictures, improved performance for certain event commands).

2k3 Maniacs: Hell no. While the default battle system is STILL a trash fire, Maniacs expands the engine's capabilities for both common users and power users alike. Powerful tools like low-level variable array operations, string variables, string pictures, more commands take variables by default, commands that CAN'T take variables can usually be forced to take them through raw invocation, MASSIVE performance increases for both the standard engine behavior as well as the "per-frame" interpreter mode, the addition of local variables, support for custom resolutions, and much, much more.

Japanese still love to use 2k for the simplicity, the wealth of documented techniques, and/or to flex, but power users are quickly moving to 2k3 Maniacs.
