Just finished chapter 13 of Xenoblade X:DE and I gotta say, people were right to hate the added chapter. I don't even know where to begin. I went back and read old fan's reactions and everything mentioned were pretty much how I felt so I guess I'll start with the few things I did liked. I liked the new map you got to explore. Had this FFXIII cocoon vibe. Wish I had known to stay in that area to farm skell weapons otherwise I'd have to slow grind or do all over chapter 13 again.

That was about it honestly. Chapter 13 was just that bad. Didn't mind Al too much because it felt like they wrote him like a Marvel character which I guess fits the sitting. I stuck with the dub because it was meme worthy back on the WiiU and I liked a couple of the voices in english but sadly in DE they changed some voices and some had lack luster performance like they were phoning their lines in over the phone where the audio quality was all over the place which made me regret sticking with the dub. But back to chapter 13.

The main villain Void has got to be one of the dumbest shoe horned villain out of any rpg. His entire motives make Z and his cronies look intelligent. After reading all the old fan reactions, my biggest gripe really is this chapter was super rushed just so it can merge all the Xenoblade game world by destroying the previous world. I'd hate to see what a future Xenosaga episode 4 is going to be like trying to merge literally EVERYTHING Xeno then destroying everything before it just to Fei, Rex, and Shulk can play Kingdom Hearts in space.

Fuck, I just want a game with playable XC1/2/3 aesthetic mecha. Numbered Chronicles entries may as well be the biggest case of mecha blue balling, if not straight up involuntary nonpiloting. Casting away mecha at the end of Saga (and making your meatbags fight their mangled remains as a final boss too as a nice fuck you to the player (me specifically), I've had Erde Kaiser one hit that thing back into oblivion) and focus the gameplay striclty on running around as meatbags exclusively is probably the worst case of a franchise gutting itself from one thing that actually interested me in it. Faced mechons looked great. Artifices were awesome. Some of the Kevesi mecha designs were straight up fantastic. And all (well, most of) those are manned units, piloted strictly by characters other than player ones. 3 rubs it in extra well, not only are mecha so common place you see them at nearly every location in the game, you also get one of those hero characters, the girl with very stylish handlebars, to tag along with the party piloting one of her own while the main party is stuck with, admittedly not terrible looking, diet version of ultramen only accessible via a fusion dance and usable for just a few minutes at a time that also only do cool stuff in cutscenes instead of the actual gameplay. And don't even start me on the cutscenes, Gundam Fighter duels, castles doing Macross transformations, City pulling off a yet another last moment hidden Zeon prototype unit, flying around punching walls just to give Big Ghondor and Little Ghondor (what fucking Ghondor names their child Ghondor?) more screentime. All of that so the protags can wail their skinny arms with no regerts at what's barely even constitutes as a villain doing his best Andross impression.

And then you have X, where, despite there being playable mecha, you may as well play through the most of the game without using any and even if you do, they don't even get to appear in the cutscenes, it's always your fauxmeatbags standing around. And the playable mecha designs in X may as well be aestheticaly weakest in the series too, with the tacky extra parts used for borderline useless land vehicle transformations that are immediately rendered obsolete the moment you unlock flight modules while most of the enemy units have this sweet, sleek look, with no unnecessary bits to uselessly fatten them up and mess with the silhouettes. Only Hraesvelg has a functionally useful transformation, it being a flight unit and thus not weighed down by gravity of awkward, unnecessary ballast but that's to be expected as the mecha itself was supposed to be, I assume, yet another supa speshul hyper stylized npc only unit that only got playable as a happy accident or perhaps as a way of apologizing to the player for not actually finishing the story as it was originally intended but opting to forcefully close it just to get it all over with. Well, whatever. It is what it is. But still, fuck you to whoever decided for these games to not only stop having playable mecha but also have npcs wave their big huge non playable dicks around by keeping theirs. Sincerely, fuck (You).

Retard who's been asleep for a while here, how do the switch 2 versions of the trilogy work? Are they DLC for the switch 1 versions that use my existing save file or are they their own distinct thing and require replaying the whole game? I skipped out on 1+2 switch 2 eds because playing them for the 3rd or 4th time didn't seem worth the additions, but I want to get 3 for the third sister.

Yeah, it was extremely disappointing that XBC3 advertised cool mechas but you didn't get to pilot them. Right now only the Trails series is scratching that mecha itch, and even then the recent entries only have a couple fights per game instead of the several that we got in the Cold Steel arc.

So, a question about the ending of XBC3. Why did the worlds separate again? The way the Origin was portrayed seemed to me like it was supposed to use the preserved data from both to make them whole. Origin is designed as an ark for both worlds, correct. However, it is also designed to activate just before the worlds fully merge. The corruption of Origin led to the events of Aionios in a seemingly timeless pocket dimension. Ouroboros's victory finally allowed Origin to be rebooted. This required purging the ark and returning all the souls/data back to their respective worlds. However, this is only for at most an hour or two. The merger then restarts, which is confirmed in the ending of Future Redeemed with the reformation of "Earth" back in its proper plane of existence.

The mecha designs in these games beg to be properly appreciated instead of being relegated to being either mobs or, at best, eye candy. And I haven't found any other game that would scratch the mecha rpg itch quite like XCX did. Even though Dolls Nest and Titanic Scion got fairly close as of late and Steambot Chronicles and Metal Max/Saga still exist too.
