So what's the point of playing these if they have no mods? Am I just playing an emulator without savestates and fast-forward? Sounds like a downgrade
    >>
    >>12905206
They usually include some additional features that I've enjoyed and it seems like they work better than trying those features on emulators. Some of them do have modding options and the future potential modding for most of them is higher too.

So why did the last one get autosaged and the individual threads shitting up the board are still up?
    >>
    >>12905206
I thought the point is mods. I made a whole track editor for whiplash, not even vibed actually made it before LLMs were good. Some people have made some nifty custom tracks. I also added lots of other new features like modern netcode, hardware rendered graphics, support for modern controllers, etc. I've got lots of plans for fs98 too, it's gonna be awesome.
    >>
    >>12905206
The point is so you can add your own mods. I took the wave race 64 recomp and added perfect dark levels of customization over every aspect of gameplay, full free roam with all unrelated terrain filled in, NPC riders dicking around in Dolphin Park in randomized routines, fully rendered seabeds, and high intensity VR including dynamic full motion first person crash animations.

In VR, you are decoupled from the normal crash sequence and will literally be flung from your watercraft and sometimes randomly bounce or barrel roll across the water before submerging, and you swim back to your jet ski. Also sand has collision so you can’t swim in it like you would in the original.

Should be ready to publish after a final bug test tonight. I have a webm I’ve posted on /v/ a few times but I’m phonefagging atm and can’t post it. I really want to show the potential of modding an existing game and prove to you doomertards that if someone gives enough of a shit to actually see all their “idea guy” concepts through to the end, then vibe coded is most definitely not synonymous with slop.
    >>
    >>12905241
    >I thought the point is mods
Then they need cleaner code as a base instead of assuming AI will always comprehend it no how garbage it is. It should be modifiable by humans regardless.

I'll do my best but since half the game is hand-written assembly that I am sloppin into more portable C there may be some limitations there. Luckily the original project is incredibly structured so SO FAR even if some individual functions look a bit ugly you can pretty much tell what is going on, and most of the ugliness is scaffolding to help hook into the retail modules for testing mine individually. I think it may actually be more readable than whiplash code just because everything is split off in a module where it actually makes sense to be and there are no insain gigafunctions with thousands of lines of code. Whiplash be like,
    >yeh we're gonna have a "function.c", but also "func2.c", and "func3.c", like the "stuff" folders on people's desktops
    >UI code will be in frontend.c... mostly but also whatever random file the dev happened to have open at the time
    >resource loading and uncompressing goes in sound.c obviously
    >we're gonna re-write malloc and free to keep track of memory usage and call them inventively "malloc2" and "free2"
    >we also have "fre" btw for our bespoke pre-allocated buffer block system
    >don't try to understand our texture rasterization function that can draw up to four pixels at a time by stuffing four 16-bit indexes into a 64-bit value, we don't even know how it works
That's how you get SOVL fellas. Which brings up another reason to do it, it's just kinda fun to find out how people made something, like archaeology or something.
    >>
    >>12905286
I feel the same. It's fun to comprehend their thought process when putting it all together and see what lessons I can gather for myself. Or how they had creative solutions to deal with the hardware limitations at the time.
There's no real story with vibe coding, just nag it with prompts until it feels correct.

    >>
    >>12905304
Depends on how you use it I guess. I am not anti LLM use. The way I use it may be a little more involved than the guys using an existing toolchain to fart out a recomp though.

Apparently true, articles are reporting it and apparently turned on on the 27th
Either the project is too far along for the thing to kick in, or it really only refuse the biggest of dumbasses "Uh Claude, please decompile Steam game" and stupid shit like that

The Doom 64 recomp was, I'm not going to say bad, I appreciate the effort, but the manual save didn't work. It just wouldn't let me save. What is the point of making a recomp, adding all the features of a modern remaster, advertising that fact, and then not letting the user save the game? I guess I can just use a save state, but I was hoping to save the game normally.

The point is clout chasing, none of the people doing these """recomps""" actually know what they're doing other than going
    >claude please decomp vidya gaem plz
If there's any bugs or errors they're not going to have any idea how to fix them, nor do they care because they never gave a shit beyond being able to play it for a few minutes in the first place.

I want EVERY GAME to be playable on EVERY SYSTEM

    >>
    >>12905156
I do like how I can just point claude at a recomp and add the stuff I want to it and open a PR if I feel like it. Like when the original prompter didn't bother routing the game's surround mix through surround speakers, it's always a quick fix.
    >>
Anti ai faggots are in utter shambles. The last few weeks has been undeniable that ai IS THE FUTURE of modern retro gaming. Everything is getting native recomps with the standardised QoL (fps/res/fov/ratio) and it'd all 90%+ vibecoded.
