    In retrospect, was it good?

The SOCOM games for PS2 were 7/10 games designed to copy the Tom Clancy formula, which were mostly 8-9/10 games. So "good"? Yes. But serviceably good.

The mission where you're on the oil rig in the first game is so kino
    >>
    >>12904829
by 6th gen standards yes. no bullshit just straightforward twinstick analog shooting, decent performance. most games struggled to match that.
    >>
It was fun. I liked how each map had pre-set waypoints in alphabetical order so you could sync with your second squad easily. It's a really rudimentary game though, the shooting felt simple and there wasn't really a story.

what are they supposed to be standing on in water that deep? and why would they be emerging from water in that spot with those kinds of weapons? this does not seem like navy seal behavior

I remember my brother getting it and playing on occasion, one time I was on a vietnam map that I had never seen before. But that might have imagined the whole thing.
    >>
    >>12906730
I don't think there's any Socom game that takes place in Vietnam, though the original does have two campaigns in Thailand and the Congo, lots of jungle and water to get lost in.
    >>

    didnt read :)

I never really played this game as it was intended which was online back during the days where Sony's online was a very new concept with few games that were probably ever even worth it. So I can only rate it on the single player which all I can remember really is that it seemed like a good enjoyable game but I cannot remember most of it.
    >>
    >>12906759
Yeah I only ever played the campaigns in these games
    >>
    >>12906778
I do remember that Socom 2 and 3 were seen as great online games for the PS2 but I didn't even get into online gaming until the 360. I remember you can give voice commands to the squad. I wonder how many used that.
    >>
there are people who still play socom 2 online today
they are probably playing it right now as I type this
