That's understandable. Pretty hard to fun with dithered pixels aren't being rendered as transparency.

Blaze is the most unfun character in the game. Pick Max or Skate.

I never quite understood the appeal of beat em ups

To actually have skill in them it requires a lot of odd glitch/rng manipulation and frame trap combos, usually beat em ups are designed to be as unfair as possible and eat quarters from dumb kids who thought they can win.

First beat em up I actually thought were amazing was GodHand and Urban Reign, they actually designed the games around skill and not button mashing/crowd control gimmicks

never played it. I learned how to get to the end of SoR1 without savestates but got filtered by the last boss. Every other beat em up I played I died a million times and kept feeding quarters in MAME, I can't fucking imagine how frustrating it would be to learn how to 1cc or even 3cc an arcade beat-em-up.

I went through a phase of just playing 90s arcade beat em ups just to see what they are like. The best I played was Denjin Makai 2, batshit insane jojo-like artstyle and fighting engine more akin to actual fighting games than simple button mashers like most.

What don't you like about it? Please explain. Maybe you're coming in with the wrong mindset for the genre.

No wonder you suck at these games and spent two posts recycling scrub complaints about them.
Perhaps try any and all of the following instead of praying you get good RNG that will allow you to win:
    1. Learning enemy behavior. How do dodge their attacks? Do they have any sort instant wake-ups that will punish me for trying to attack them as they get up? When is it safe for me to take my eye off of them so that I can observe what other enemies are doing? When are they simply just idly moving around and what are the animation tells that show they are in "attack mode" (every BEU is different in how they express this through animation).
    2. Positioning so that you can control or kill enemies as they spawn into the area. Or positioning to simply avoid enemy traps.
    3. Enemy prioritization. Order of operations and all that. Some enemies are actually useful to keep around because they're relatively harmless and can be used as crowd control tools to throw into harder enemies and bosses. Some enemies need to be deleted instantly because of how much they control the screen with their moveset.
    4. Resource management and item knowledge. Stuff like knowing where all the 1UPs are hidden and where healing items/food is going to be located so that you can save them until the last second whenever possible. Alternatively, learning if you can drag specific items like screen-clearing bombs to hard wave encounters, like you can in (say) King of Dragons by simply not hitting them.

These are really all the same action game fundamentals anyone can use in any other action game genre. It's clear the reason you've had such a bad time with BEUs is because you came into it with the shitty condescending scrub mindset you outlined in your two posts ("they're just le coin feedin' mashers, I'm totally not some basic bitch who gets my opinions from other people"!).

Beat 'em ups aren't fun past a certain age. That said, Streets of Rage is the most boring overrated beat 'em up out there. It gets by on one good track from the opening of the first game, and the nostalgia of a bunch of Sega kiddos who never played Final Fight.
