    >Try to keep things /vr/ related: Focus should be on 6th Gen Consoles and older. Slight off topic is fine so long as it's related to CRTs, such as later 16:9 models, HD models, etc. Systems with backwards compatibility are also safe territory, as are re-releases on newer hardware. PC CRTs are also welcome and appreciated.
    >Produce OC! Bust out your camera and take photos of your CRTs displaying all sorts of games, featuring all sorts of tubes, using all sorts of signals. Getting good shots can be hard, but if you take enough, at least a few will turn out alright.
    >Try and give as much information as possible when asking for info on a specific set, or troubleshooting an issue to expedite and help you may receive. As always, Google is your friend and we are your friends with benefits. Do people read this? Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either; Seriously, there's literally 6 years of backlog at this point.
    >Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. Always remember to show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Limited discussion of video processing and scaling devices is alright, but remember to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories.

Finally got a flashcart and brought my childhood NES back to life, this is surreal bros, this thing has been in my family since before I was born.
    >>
    >>12903230
Did the console just work as is? Normally these things need some finagling after being in storage for so long.
Mine had shit contact with the game so I had to do the ol' in-out in-out multiple times before it decided to work.

Anyway, did you get the Famicom or the NES cartridge version?

Yeah the console worked as is, which is amazing because it spent years in my mom’s garage after I moved out. The only finicky thing I noticed is the controller stopped reading inputs midplaythough twice in a row back to back, but reseating the input into the console seems to have made it go away.

    >>12903226
heeeeey thats my pic. that was before my remote came in from ebay and I could calibrate it with 240p test suite. it looks waaaay better now.

when I found it several months ago I was not expecting to really care for using a crt, especially a 13" composite set. figured if it worked, was in good condition, I'd sell it.

but I fucking love this thing. my memories of composite crts was of blurry ass graphics and white text with color bleed. this has none of that.
    >>
    >>12903307
    pics or didn't happen
    >>
Do any of you guys pick up CRTs, fuck around with them a bit before selling them and moving on? What are you favorite sets?
    >>
From the previous thread- I fixed the PVM with vertical collapse I got for cheap. Several bad deflection caps and one of the pins on the CRT gun itself was broken off. No burn in on the tube. Sweet. Now need to make an RGBS adapter.

    >>12903359
Yep. Probably 2 per week on average. Best picture quality from regular TVs I've come across are a 20" Sony KV-20FS120 and a 27" JVC with a curved tube and component input. The low hour/usage ones really stand out.
    >>
    >>12903230
I'm thinking about getting the $40 NES flash cart on AliExpress during the 11/11 sale. Which one did you get?
    >>
    >>12903389
Damn, that's nice. How much did you said it was? $200? Either way, it looks like it was worth it.

Yeah, 200. The ewaste employee said he'd find more broken pvms for me. Make friends with local ewaste companies. They get a bunch of these things for free. Insane that people are simply dumping them.

Remember - Contrast low, Brightness high

    Excellent TV and game.

    >>12903395
I got this one, people online said it was solid and saves to Flash memory so you dont have to worry about a battery.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/227588755120

It’s on Aliexrpress as well for $25, if you wanna go that route.
    >>
    >>12903412
    >Insane that people are simply dumping them.
It really isn't. They take up a great deal of space and are heavy. Just because they're not aware there's a niche group of people out there that desire them doesn't mean they should keep them indefinitely.
    >>
    >>12903445
Cool thanks. I want the one with a micro SD card. Silly that it costs double for that but oh well.
    >>12903456
Consumer TVs I agree with that statement, but professional monitors were thousands of dollars new and not owned by joe schmoe. Anyone with a pvm in 2026 *should* know not to chuck it out at ewaste.
    >>
    >>12903470
Oh yeah the micro SD ones are the way to go, especially if you wanna do rom hacks and such

Is there any way to play PS2 on a CRT without an actual PS2 or building a whole ass computer with emudriver?
    >>
    >>12903693
Well do you have a PS3?
    >>
    >>12903696
I actually do have one, I remember hacking it years ago and then never used it again. Can it actually play PS2? Back then you could only play the "PS Classics" you could get from the PS Store.
    >>
    >>12903693
Ps2 fats are cheap and the games are free, so I'd suck it up and get one. Path of least resistance.
    >>
    >>12903685
When you spend too much time in retro spaces you start believing CRTs are more valuable than they actually are.
We have a big family garage sale every year and it's common for CRTs to get passed on. Not just shitty ones, ones with component ports and VGA monitors too.
    >>
    >>12903703
The original models were backwards compatible but the others had shitty emulation that only sometimes work well.
    >>
    >>12903703
the ps2 classics emulator is actually quite good and compatibility is not bad. modders discovered how to configure it and made configs for a ton of games.
you can find them here https://ps3.aldostools.org/ps2config.html
and here's the compatibility list https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List
i have tried quite a few games on my ps3 which is a 3000 model, so i package them individually with the ps2 classics gui tool. it can be kind of a pain to do, though i don't mind too much because i make my own icon0 and pic0 to make them look official. the games i've tried run fine.
on cfw is as easy as copying your ps2 isos and config files into the right folders inside your ps3.
i do have a ps2, however. but use my ps3 to play ps2 from time to time when i put away my ps2 for space issues.
    >>
    >>12903693
    Just get an actual PS2?
    and a HDD adapter
should probably cost you less than 100 for everything
    >>
    >>12903693
Buy a chink HDMI to RCA adapter and emulate on your main PC. Literally a no-brainer.

99% of PS2 games are 480i, so emudriver is overkill for this console anyway.
    >>
    >>12903827
    >chink HDMI to RCA adapter
Those look like absolute horseshit, not even good enough to watch TV shows.

Just get a PS2 and go the FreeMcBoot route and load up an HDD or SATA ssd with roms. It's not terribly expensive or hard to setup and it's the most authentic way to play. While pcsx2 is good and has great UI, it's still inferior to the real thing unless you just can't live without gay shit like states or fast forward.

I did the whole emudriver thing for years and if you do ever go that route, I can verify that it does work well with pcsx2. Just have tv set as 640x480 and switch window and it works well. Also good for watching shit too, picrel

    >>12903725
Market is definitely important. I have some esoteric game things that are worth thousands, but if I just put them out on a table at a garage sale (without advertising online that I have games), I'd be "lucky" to find somebody willing to pay $20.
Granted, thanks to the widespread use of smartphones and ebay these knowledge gaps are much smaller than they used to be. One of the saving graces for CRTs is that they're not always an easy flip for people who know the value but don't want them themselves. They do take up space, and if you want to maximize profit, might have to resort to selling online and shipping them, which is a whole other headache.

You can use an FPGA or wait for modretro to release their downscaler which should be coming out pretty soon.
    >>
    >>12905316

You'll be using Groovy Mister, you connect your pc to the mister via ethernet and output to crt.

fellas, i kind of want a CRT but my mom keeps saying my CRT is just going to break and turn into a heap of junk i have to pay to take to the dump. she always tells me what to do even though i am a 35-year-old man. it would probably just be one of those $50 portable black and white ones so i wouldn't be out too much money.

    >can't preorder the Retrogames A1200 because "it's a scam"
    >can't apply for work online because those are scams too as well apparently

she's been this way ever since my grandma got her bank account hacked and my sister got hacked. the sad part is i can't prove her wrong at least half of the time.

To be fair, if my 35 year old NEET manchild son still lived with me. I would hate his guts. Cut your mother some slack.
    >>
    >>12905617
my mom's like twice my age and in constant pain. she's long past caring about anyone's BS. i might have to actually learn how to just do what i gotta do without her input. always waiting for someone else's approval all the time has probably been the single biggest mistake in my life.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlLVmRYthX4

anyway, back to discussing CRTs, i guess.
    >>
    >>12903427
Really? I've been doing the opposite.
    >>
    >>12906361
Nta but yeah you want the contrast lower so it doesn't drive the crt guns as hard. Both settings accelerate wear if cranked up high. I usually do like 65 contrast, 70 brightness and 0-25 sharpness, but it varies by tv

I have a 20L5 but want to force gen 6 games to 240p.

People on 4chan aren't in love with CRT technology, they love composhit cables, which they can also use on their modern displays. It's extremely regrettable that they're masquerading as fans of the former.

I saw Aliexpress is selling Pandora Box systems that claim to be compatible with CRTs. Anyone tried them? I know they have a VGA port, so maybe I could use a comverter from VGA to component, like you can do with a raspberry pi.
