There are so many gosh darn games in this fugging franchise, which ones are actually worth playing, which ones should be avoided and which one is the best starting point for newfags to the series?
>>12902438Start with the first and go by release order.
>>12902438None. They're the definition of slop. Zero thought how into them, there's zero strategy, the maps are empty, and the plot is just empty headed fan service
>>12902438>which ones are actually worth playing, which ones should be avoidedhttps://w.atwiki.jp/gcmatome/pages/287.htmlHere's a list of every game in the series rated by the Japanese community. Green is "good", white is "okay", yellow is "not good", orange is "bad".You'll see there's a lot of green, very little yellow, and only one orange. It's a very consistent series.>which one is the best starting pointI recommend starting with Masoukishin. It's a great game and requires no outside knowledge of mecha anime to enjoy. The Super Famicom version has a fan translation. If you know Japanese, you also have the option of the PSP version, which is almost identical in terms of story, but adds in voice acting and event CGs. Either is fine, I like PSP.Masoukishin is split into two halves. The first half is a prequel to another game, and the rest isn't. At a certain point in Masoukishin, a big, dramatic story event will happen, and then text is going to pop up on the screen to the effect of "End of Part One". At this point, I recommend stopping playing Masoukishin and starting playing its direct sequel. There are four different versions of its direct sequel. Namely, Super Robot Taisen 2 (Famicom), Super Robot Taisen 2 (Game Boy), Super Robot Taisen Original Generation (Game Boy Advance), and Super Robot Taisen OGs (PS2). I recommend playing OGs (PS2), which is a bundle that includes the three games that come after Masoukishin. Play the first and second games, but not the third (2.5), because it had a remake that came out literally six months later on the same system called Super Robot Taisen OG Gaiden. Then you play OG 3, which is on the PS3 and is actually titled "Dai-2-ji Super Robot Taisen OG" with a confusing 2 in the name. After all this, you play the second half of Masoukishin and then the rest of the Masoukishin games and then Moon Dwellers.Alternatively, if this is all too confusing and you like girls with huge boobs, start with Endless Frontier 1&2 on DS.
>>12902453Shit advice>>12902438If you're a purist I would say 2 for the Famicom, 1 is a no story game so don't worry too much about skipping it.If you find 2 too archaic and uninteresting I would say OG 1+2, W, J or A portable>>12902498Didn't play them award, OG and Z2 have plenty of strategy if you want the SR points and the ones like 3 and AG are already difficult without them.>>12902574Good post though I wouldn't recommend elemental lords much

SRW W for the DS was my favorite because it featured mecha from series I grew up with.
I play tons of these and I'm a giant robot Fanboy going on 35 years or so and have thousands of dollars in merch. Since I did play just about every srw I could say that only Alpha Gaiden, Alpha 3, J, D and I the DS games are the only ones worth playing to somebody who isn't a diehard d mecha fan.
>>12902732>it featured mecha from series I grew up with.that's the correct answer
>>12902438play the ones that have your favorite showsmy personal rank:S-tier: Alpha Gaiden, J, W, A/AP, Z2, VA-tier: Alpha, X, GC, Alpha 3, D, RB-tier: Z, Z3, T, Impact, C-tier: OG, Games, MX, OEF-tier: K, Y

>no fan translation of Z>Bamco skipped it to remaster Z2I can’t get motivated to play it when I can’t even read the story. All the series I know best are on the Setsuko route, but I don’t want Kira to be an enemy.
>>12902438>Good ones: Have the shows I like>Bad ones: Don'tUnless you're a fan of the anime in question you really have no business playing these games
>>12903568>Good ones: Have the shows I like>tfw you like Gaiking LoDM, Godannar GunXSword, Kotetsushin Jeeg, King Gainer, Zoids and Dangaioh
>>12903568They're very good SRPGs. Strategic and challenging without being too frustrating, memorable characters with fantastic character designs, dramatic and emotional storytelling but with lots of great comedy too, tons of great music, giant robots, explosions, pretty girls kissing you and taking off their clothes... I don't know about you, but that's basically everything I want in a strategy game.Obviously there's a lot of variance from title to title, but I'd be shocked if there was a person who liked SRPGs who couldn't find at least a few games in the series they liked.I would strongly recommend Super Robot Taisen to anyone who likes SRPGs, especially if they also like mecha anime, or find games like Fire Emblem to be too random and too frustrating.Like, just think about how huge the series is. There's almost a hundred SRT games at this point, and most of them are dozens of hours long. If you haven't ever tried it, pick a game and play through the first ten stages or so. If you don't like it, whatever, you tried something new and stepped out of your comfort zone. Great. If you DO like it, if you love it, you are set for THOUSANDS of hours of entertainment. You will not have to worry about finding new SRPGs for YEARS.I feel like you almost owe it to yourself to give the series a chance if you like SRPGs.
>>12903568I didn't watcha single anime and I'm with >>12904748I love srpgs like FE, Disgaea and Devil Survivor and that's why I love SRW too, great animations, characters, stories and the fact every unit has its own theme is pretty fucking cool, one of my favorite things of the series. Also I kind of like having zero knowledge of the animes, I was surprised by a lot of the games's plot twist that I feel wouldn't have hit as hard if I watched the whole anime and I already knew the story
>>12903374Z2.1 or Z2.2. They are very different games.
>>12902453Ah yes, of course
4 and F/F Final are the peak.Alpha is good but already casualized
