Hi, anon, I hope you're doing well.

Sandy is a old man. he made Ages, Doom, Quake and Cthulhu dude is a god
    >>
    >>12902386
I'm not. I'm replaying DOOM 2 and his levels are making me act like a retard
    >>
He invented the spawn in Quake and I just think it's crappy and annoying enemy.

    >crappy and annoying
is he just bad at making video games
    >>
    >>12902395
Isn't being unhappy playing doom 2 the normal intended experience?

    >Cthulhu
I thought H.P. Lovecraft made Cthulhu.
Oh my god, it stands for Hsandy Petersen Lovecraft.

Victor Ireland of Working Designs, a widely hated figure, is also vehemently against piracy.

He made one of the most influential tabletop RPG dudes is a legend.
    >>
    >>12902376
Shareware crippled the games sales if anything did. I never heard of anyone actually paying for the full version of a shareware game. Yes we pirated but in a lot of cases whatever was included in the shareware release was the game for all intents and purposes.
    >>
    >>12902791
    >i never heard of anyone actually paying for the full version

Yeah I guess that’s why DOOM was a flop and id software went out of business, because you and your pals specifically never bought shareware games
    >>
    >>make the worst levels
He also made some of the best tho.

    >>12902392
    >>12902592
    He helped popularize Lovecraft.

    >>12902705
Yeah, he has a genuine record of good tabletop and videogame work. But now he's being a weird fluke and bullshitter for some reason, and it hurts to see.

I think on average, his Doom and Doom 2 levels are decent, with a few that are really good (E2M6, Tricks & Traps), and only one that I actually don't like at all, The Factory.
Unlike most, I like The Chasm.

Piracy was so good that it killed the Dreamcast and many awful third party publishers who were publishing good game slop. Piracy also saved me thousands and thousands of dollars.
    >>
    >>12903802
    >thousands and thousand of dollars
I was going to call you a liar until I started recounting the shit I've pirated lul
    >>
    >>12903927
pirating shit like Adobe alone saves you tens of thousands of dollars in the long run.
    >>
    >>12903993
Adobe leaned into and utilized piracy to dominate the markets in the 2000s. Maybe not the best end results considering how terrible they became over the years, but it can and has been used to great effect in the past. Having your product collapse your company to piracy is a skill issue.
    >>
    >>12902376
Doom 2's map design is competent but boring. The fact that it's all one big thing instead of being broken up into multiple episodes really hurts replayability.

I remember Ultimate Doom pretty well, but Doom 2's map design gives me highway hypnosis.
    >>
    >>12904136
I wished they still kept the episodes for the sake of megawads not feeling like shit
    >>
    >>12903927
    Piracy saves you money.
    >>
    >>12904136
    >>12905151
Doom 2 would definitely have benefitted from being split into episodes like the first game was, not just so you could have a cool animated intermission map between levels, but so you could have that forced reset of progression and repeated clean breaks. It'd just be better for overall progression and continuing escalation of challenge.

I'm so glad that you can actually finally do that shit for Vanilla(ish), Boom, MBF21, etc .wads now with UMAPINFO.
    >>
    >>12905525
I just started doing pistol start now I couldn't care less if they had episodes or not

i wished he did a SomethingAwful guy thing. but i don't care about fake celeb devs wannabes enough. i rather talk about how Jon Carmack would optimise all the shit console ports these days and indies if he still made games.

    >Adobe piracy domination in the 2000s
how? all i recall about early adobe products, was using Adobe Reader 2.0 to read the PDF manual for the CD version of Ultima 7: Complete .

He literally made the best levels in DOOM II, kys yourself OP.

    >MAP07: Dead Simple (with American McGee)
    >MAP08: Tricks and Traps
    >MAP09: The Pit
    >MAP10: Refueling Base (with Tom Hall)
    >MAP16: Suburbs
    >MAP23: Barrels o' Fun
    >MAP27: Monster Condo

Maps 7 to 10 is the coolest sequence of maps to play through in either DOOM or DOOM II

    >>
    >>12905645
Fair, but most people play continuous (I like both ways), and that improves continuous play.
    >>
    >>12902376
