    >>
Kurono is a real Japanese name so it works there at least
    >>
    >>12901975
Frog's Japanese name "Kaeru" is a pun as this can be read both as "frog" (蛙) or the verb "to transform, to change" (変える) as well as the English name Kyle
    >>

    More like a real surname.
No one is naming their children Kuro.

For some reason Japanese people don't find obvious wordplay cringe. I used to think it's just because it's English but they even do it with their native language.
    >>
    >>12902186
wordplay is kind of hard to avoid when half of your language is homophones, so they go beyond being cliches to simply being a normal part of communication
    >>

Should have named the thread "Triggering things in chronologically distant games"

Half of anime humor is untranslatable chingchonese rune puns, I assume it's the same for games

    >>
    >>12901970
The first time I played the game I renamed Crono to Chrono. I had grown up playing japanese games with bad engrish so I assumed it was a typo
    >>
    >>12902203
It's also half the humour in TV shows.

Yeah like, half the cast has punny names.
    >>
    >>12901970
It's the default name, you're supposed to rename him to yourself.
Are you also upset that the kid you play as in Pokemon Red is named "Red" if you don't rename him?
    >>
    >>12902186
No one thinks wordplay is cringe besides joyless try hard fags
    >>

    >Are you also upset that the kid you play as in Pokemon Red is named "Red" if you don't rename him?
Not OP but I am upset about Blue being named as such. Red at least sounds like a plausible first name.

I think I've met at least two distinct old men who've asked me to refer to them as "Blue, like the color".

    >>his name is Frog
His name isn't Frog, it's Glenn, he just doesn't care about being called Frog as a nickname. When you first meet him Lucca keeps calling him a frog and he basically goes "fine, whatever, call me that". It's not unlike Nanaki being called Red as a nickname, even with the same "Fine, call me Red, I don't care" setup.

    >>12902475
    >>protag's name is Sonic
Also a nickname and not his real name, at last in most continuities. You could have at least complained about Tails' real name since that one is an obvious pun.

    >>12903397
    >>is the bad guy
Also not his real name, it's Frederick Bulsara.

Is someone going to complain about the name "Solid Snake" next?
    >>
    >>12903397
He's based off Freddie Mercury, whose nickname was Mr. Bad Guy.
    >>
    >>12901970
My old brother called it Chrono Nigger.

because it's given far too much praise when it isn't anything unique, much superior JRPGs exist and have existed long before this game came out. Take this game for example, it rapes chrono sissy.
    >>
    >>12906057
CT is a very simple game. I'm fine that people like it for its aesthetics, but the idea that it's the best JRPG ever and had whatever level of depth people assume that entails is false.
    >>
    >>12906364
so what is the best JRPG ever?
    >>
Chrono trigger is easily the best JRPG ever. Why? Because it doesn’t play like a JRPG that’s why rpgfags hate on it. It’s better than everything else because it’s a turn based Zelda not a JRPG
    >>
    >>12906389
    >Because it doesn’t play like a JRPG that’s why rpgfags hate on it.
What do you even mean by that? It plays exactly like a typical JRPG and does nothing especially interesting with the systems it has, JRPG fags love it because they don't care about gameplay depth in the first place.

    >ts' a turn based Zelda
Again, wut? Only in the most superficial ways is it anything like Zelda (i.e. the music and that it involves warping between time periods), it only has the most absolutely minimal progressive unlocks and no special items that manipulate the environment, which Zelda absolutely must have.
    >>
    >>12906057
People play it because they're told it's the best RPG ever, and then when it doesn't make them cum all over the screen in the first fifteen minutes, they decide they've been cheated and lied to.
    >>
    >>12903473
I don't know if I've ever met somebody named Blue. As a name I only think of it in the context of something like what you'd name a gun or a dog or something ("Ol' Blue").
