Why havent retro PC games had a renaissance like consoles? Shit is actually a lot higher IQ than anything we got back then.

>>12900765You answered your own question.
>>12900765Why is there a Playstation logo on that computer?

>>12900765A lot of games you'd want to play like System Shock, HoMM 3 and so on, people are playing through remasters and remakes. Multiplayer games like AoE2, SC, WC3, DotA, etc are often still getting updates and are still getting played. Others like Doom or Quake still live through mods, fan content, and nightdive remakes. That is, a lot of retro pc gaming still feels current and supported.
>>12900765believe it or not, it's because most pc games fucking sucked. doom, starcraft, diablo etc are extreme outliers - most western games (which is 99% of pc games) were absolute shit until gen 5.
>>12900765console games are intuitive and made for childrenpc games are less accessible and often require you to read a manual
You can just play them on modern PCs for the most part OP, unless they were a forgotten dogshit game no one cares about and were for Windows 95/98/XP
>>12900765PC gaming just doesn't have the generational mentality of consoles. You can play essentially any game made for the platform on a modern PC. GOG does alright for people that just wanna simplify the process
>>12900765retro consoles had a renaissance?
What do you mean exactly? There's lots of retro style indie games and remasters of retro shit.
>>12900774You couldn't tell, but this is an AI image.
>>12900934redditors are soijacking all over jewtube and shit over old snes n64 ps2 etc. arcade gets no love except for a few autists, and pc gets even less love than that. for handheld the normgroids pretend it only does pokemon
>>12900996What do you want them to do? Recommend old games you get on steam and gog?
>>12900996There's plenty of channels that talk about retro PC games. It's the old home micros like the Speccy that get little love.
>>12900996There's plenty of retro focused pc channels anon. Popular ones even
>>12900765PC games were mainly a western space, and western games weren't good until the PS1 (with obvious exceptions like Doom and DKC).
>>12900765Why would I can't a bunch of old PC's when I can run almost anything on my modern PC?

>>12900765accessibility. now that you can easily port these games to run natively on modern systems you'll see exactly that. i've already ported two old games that I previously had to slog through via emulation to run natively on my Linux desktop it's awesome.
>>12900765>Why havent retro PC games had a renaissance like consoles? What did the child mean by this?
Too many barriers to be a practical idea when DOSBox and VirtualPC images does just fine for the most part.

>>12901169This, old computers suck and there's no reason to dig them out or get one on ebay, and I'm saying this as someone into old tech. A console from the era will likely just werk, where as an old ass computer has too many variables that go wrong, like hard drives and shit, and it ends up being a time and money sink that's not worth it in the end when setting up a VM is ultimately free in the end and isn't a shameful paperweight.Old computers were a pain in the ass to deal with back then, and are even more of a pain in the ass to deal with now, and all the games worth a damn have a modern way to play.
>>12900765>Shit is actually a lot higher IQ than anything we got back then. You aren't that different from modern console players
>>12900890ThisThe whole notion of retro gaming just isn't as meanigful of a term for PC gamers as it is for console gamers
>>12901171you wont do shit pussy. go back to your pokemon romhack title screens
>>12901969Indeed, though there are what one could call eras that roughly correspond to the introduction of new technology, such as sound cards and VGA graphics, CD-ROM and the multimedia push, and of course 3D accelerators and Windows finally overtaking DOS.
>>12901980neither will you, you'll still be screeching about "normies" when you're dying alone and childless on your deathbed. a lifetime of seething over people that don't even know you exist.
>>12900996You've never heard of Ross's Game Dungeon?
>>12901198Eh, I feel the opposite. Most of the old computer hardware without moving parts that has survived so far has done so because it's rock solid. Most of the crap hardware has broken and burnt out already. And most of the hardware with moving parts can be replaced with modern solid state devices. CF to IDE adapters are dirt cheap, and so are (IDE)CF cards, so there's no reason to even bother with spinning disk HDDs anymore. And for OSes where larger CF cards cost more than peanuts, you can throw a cheap small SSD in there with a SATA to IDE adapter. Gotek floppy drive emulators are far superior to floppy disks. There's even a CD-ROM drive emulator in the works for old PCs.If anything, retro PC gaming is far less of a hassle today than it was during it's era, and we have far more resources available to us now. Back then I was stuck reading PC magazines trying to get info about computers and computer parts. Now I can google up the part and every individual component on the board and get datasheets and drivers and everything else. Back then I was desperately trying to analyze GPU's by the tech specs listed on the boxes in the store, knowing only bigger number is better. Now I know to check to see what DirectX and OpenGL version is supported, and to pay attention to drivers and bus sizes. It's much better now. Far less questions and tweaking, far more gaming.
>>12900786>the butthurt weeb screeches angrily at the clouds
>>12900765>Why havent retro PC games had a renaissance like consoles? But they have? They released collections of the Gold Box RPG's, there was an Alien Breed collection that just released, The Last Ninja just had a collection release, there's a ton of classics you can get on STEAM or GOG...What exactly do you mean by "renaissance"?
>>12902070they know I exist, they revolve their entire lives around coping about being worse than me
>>12900890>You can play essentially any game made for the platform on a modern PC. GOG does alright for people that just wanna simplify the processExcept for that brief span of time where Microsoft tried raping customers once again with Vista, essentially bricking every single previous generation of video game older than Microsoft XP.
>>12900786>doom, starcraft, diabloAll shit
>>12900765That's not the first level of episode one of DOOM
Imagine you would get a computer from 1990>but what if I get one from 1994? Then it could run Doom well, and still run all my other games>but what if I get one from 1996? Then it could run Quake well, and still run all my other games>but what if I get one from 1998? Then it could run Half-Life well, and still run all my other gamesetc, eventually you realize that you already have a computer

>>12900765what the fuck is high IQ about doom you ape
>>12900765>Why havent retro PC games had a renaissance like consoles? Shit is actually a lot higher IQ than anything we got back then.because most of them are too old for zoomies to understand or care about. this means there's less revenue to make off of them. since a lot of game studios were bought up for fuck all by the bigger players we will never see many of these old games ever again.
>>12900786this is why we need age verification
>>12902087Looks scary. Will there be skeletons in there?
>>12900786This.
>>12900765Because old computer components are scarce and expensive. We have this conversation every few weeks, you can stop posting now. You're not going to get a different answer.
>>12900765zoomers can't deal with tech more complicated than a tablet. It's millenials and older who mostly care about old PC games. Basically if you're too young to experience big box PC games you're too young to care and are most probably a console kid.Wonder how there is a huge nostalgia boom about 6th and 7th gen console games now and nothing about PC games from that era? For one, it's because those PC games are usually still very playable (just install it and play on modern systems) and purchasable today. They basically never left the gamers' conciousness, so little nostalgia could accumulate. And the other part is that PC gaming was slowly falling into a slump, with few truly good exclusives. A huge talking point was how PC gaming was dying, being killed by the 360 and PS3. Some years later it was the very same consoles that helped PCs recover (512MB Ram in 2012? lmao).>>12904147They've gotten expensive after 2021. Before, you could get cases, monitors, parts and games for real cheap, except for some memed stuff like Voodoo cards, now an old used CD/DVD drive cost you 20 bucks. The cheap shit is now Vista/W7 era stuff, and they won't gain much value with time, because for games of that era, no age-specific hardware is needed. Also early era flatscreens are literal trash. But I feel the bubble has burst a bit. I.e. PVMs are half the price now and monitors have plateaued somewhat. It's all a quite high niveau overall though. You can still make a decent deal outside the most sought for hardware. Buy a tier or two lower (but a newer gen maybe) and save money, without really losing compatibility, performance or credibility and save some real money.
>>12900765>why can't I make money flipping this shitkys
>>12902230
>>12900786>>12901021TRVKE
>>12904179Just COVID and shipping inflation. Phil of Phil's Computer Lab recently posted something about how he tried to sell off his excess computer gear, and outside of meme stuff like Voodoo and SoundBlaster cards, it wouldn't move even at large discounts. He says the prices are higher, but it's mostly large resellers sitting on stock waiting for the occasional desperate industrial/business that NEEDS an old PC or PC part to get their system back to working. In my own experience, just put old PC items you are interested on ebay in your watchlist. In a day or two most sellers will offer you a discount. If you see any listed with the option to make an offer, try offering $5. Anything high-end, like the absolute last GPU's to have Win9x drivers, or the fastest 2D ISA16/PCI VGA cards, will come at a premium and have more "I know what I have" sellers, but the majority of stuff available is mid-tier or worse.

>>12905450The only reason it didn't end up a mess of shit when ported to the SNES was because Wright was there to Tard-wrangle Miyamoto, after Nintendo botched every other computer game port.
>>12905453>I don't play visual novelsThen you don't play anything on it, since that was what 80% of its library consisted of, and how Konami made most of their money in the early days.
>>12905456That's like saying the only reason Star Fox turned out good was because Argonaut was there to tard-wrangle Miyamoto, and yet Argonaut has never developed a good game besides the two that they assisted Nintendo with.
>>12905461I didn't say I don't play visual novels, I said I don't play eroge. Believe it or not most games on the PC98 aren't eroge, they only make up around 25% of the library. Just admit that you know nothing about PC98.
>>12905462>That's like saying the only reason Star Fox turned out good was because Argonaut was there to tard-wrangle Miyamoto, and yet Argonaut has never developed a good game besides the two that they assisted Nintendo with. You mean aside from Starglider 1 and 2, which they made and inspired Nintendo to hire them in the first place? >>12905470They made a game that showed they had technical capability. Being technically capable doesn't mean you can make a good game. Case and point, Croc shows that they were technically capable of making a game like Super Mario 64, but also shows that they were incapable of making a good game like Super Mario 64.As for PC98, I mostly play RPGs. I'm currently working on Popful Mail.
>>12900765Has doom ever really gone out of style? If you own the doom 1 and doom 2 wads, you can download a source port and a handful of mods and transform it into any game you want it to be within 10 minutes. id released the source code a long time ago. The reason the ai stuff is such a big deal now is because games that don’t have publicly available source code and doesn’t have an army of trannies dedicating their lives to reverse engineering it can finally, someday soon, get the doom treatment.
>>12905487>Being technically capable doesn't mean you can make a good gameCool, but Starglider 1 and 2 were critical and commercial successes on the PC. End of story, end of argument.>Super Mario 64, but also shows that they were incapable of making a good game like Super Mario 64.So your example why Starglider isn't a good game, is because Croc wasn't a good game? Croc is an example of how they had the technical ability to make a game like Super Mario 64, but lacked the ability to make a good game like Super Mario 64. Star Glider is an example of how they had the technical ability to make a game like Star Fox, but lacked the ability to make a game as good as Star Fox.>Didn't ask.You literally did.>>12905496It's not a larp. >>12905530The entire prototype on which Star Fox is based is from a prototype that Argonaut built. In fact, it was Argonaut who assisted in helping Nintendo decide on how to build the SNES, specifically because they wanted Starglider that badly. You have no idea what you're talking about, your "opinions" are in glaring opposition to reality, and you seem to have a very loose understanding on what constitutes a "good" game.

I don't want to throw it out but I just have no use for it, most of the games suck and playing them on a modern PC is better anyway.
I'm glad it hasn't. The only issue I see with a strong community like doom and quake is the prevalence of the modders becoming faggot trannies. The games and mods are still good and there is a certain level of exclusivity to keep faggots from ruining things.
