In a perfect world Nintendo would become a third party after fumbling with SNES CD addon
    >>
    Don't mention it.
I spent my whole twenties and thirties reading all those articles from big journalists and data guys saying Nintendo was done.
That mobile was going to kill them, that they should go third party, that Switch was going to flop and Wii U was proof they lost touch.
I believed all of it, I argued online for hours like an idiot saying this is it for Nintendo they cant survive.
And now I am in my forties and I am still here arguing with Nintendo cultists like I was 15 again, nothing changed.
They are still here, they are bigger than ever and I am the one who looks stupid waiting for a downfall that never came.
Honestly I thought by this age I would be past console wars, I thought Nintendo would be a memory and we would all move on.
But here I am still fighting the same battle on forums and comments and I am tired.
And the worst part is its only american millennials who like Nintendo, nobody else in the world likes them.
Its just that cult of american millennials who keep them alive.
I feel betrayed not by the cultists but by all those smart analysts who promised me they were finished.

their first party games are worthless. even their shitty hardware is better than their games.

    >Fumbled the SNES CD
    >Fumbled the Virtual Boy
    >Fumbled the 64DD

In a just world, Nintendo have returned to making playing cards for children to trade at recess.

    >fumbled the Gamecube
    >fumbled the Wii U
    >potentially might fumble the Switch 2
The only thing saving them right now is that the other two are fumbling even harder
    >>
It's weird how people are so obsessed with the idea of Nintendo going third party when it makes more sense for Microsoft to abandon console hardware, considering they've committed way more sins than any other company. Let's be honest, the only reason Xbox even exists still is Microsoft having infinite money and the fact that Valve cucks then out of completely locking down PC gaming so far.

I used to hate on Nintendo, till I realized it’s mostly seething third worlders with sour grapes syndrome I was keeping company with, after which I quickly changed my tune.

How is there a playstation 2 if the SNES cd-on with Sony was made? This does not compute. At best that would be the PlayStation (1), released later in the 90's, maybe.

Why did Americans thought the 32x could compete with the Sega Saturn? In the end it was all shit talking.

There's still a viable market though for an gaming box that is easy to use and connect to a television that still offers the benefits of PC gaming. The Steam Machine was a flop, Microsoft still has a good opportunity to succeed by making the next Xbox a PC hybrid

If Xbox made their next system with no gay online requirements, like not needing to register your own fucking hardware online before it even works, and goes back to releasing proper discs with the full game on them, then they will pull over a bunch of long time playstation fans that have finally gotten tired of sony's bullshit over the last few years.

Nintendo makes their own hardware because nobody else would do what nintendo wants. The model worked for a long time: make low(er) power hardware, sell it cheap to kids, make unique game experiences nobody else makes for this hardware, sell gorillions. Now that everything is priced out of the hands of kids, it all goes to fuck. Nintendo could survive better than SEGA as a 3rd party, but they'd steadily lose their identity. Why play pokemon on a steamdeck when you can play palworld?

bro really thinks ~35 million units sold is a "fumble"

I was about to ask how much Nintendo's franchises would have changed if they had gone third-party, but looking at Sega, I can't help but think they wouldn't have changed that much. Perhaps they would have had better graphics.
    >>
In a perfect world, Nintendo wod have never existed and we'd be using Sinclair smartphones

Most of these still look drab. Most people think of Okami being more of a Nintendo game since it's a Zelda ripoff anyway and hardly anyone heard of it before the Wii release
    >>
Microsoft and Sony would commit a genocide of an obscure ethnicity if it meant getting a fraction of the iconic franchise love that Nintendo gets from its fans. Sony even admitted they fucked up by not giving a shit about nurturing their own ips.
    >>
nintendo had too much cash in the 90s to be forced into a rash decision like cutting the console wing. the strong finish of the snes with donkey kong and pokemon giving the gameboy a second life ensured that they would be able hold out through the gamecube.
    >>
    >>12904207
It still looks drab. the fact that the n64 gets unprecedented levels of hate for its picture quality while the PS2 which literally does the EXACT same shit gets zero criticism only feeds my confirmation bias.
    >>
    >>12899459
They already fumbled as hard as they could have with the SNES CD add-on. The failed partnership resulted in Sony being spurred to pull the trigger on entering the console market and releasing the PlayStation at the right time while Nintendo was still fumbling with non-CD methods of getting around cartridge costs. If the original SNES compatible PlayStation had released, either way I think Nintendo is better off. If it bombs, Sony might get discouraged with the idea of pursuing a CD-based console. If it is successful, Nintendo might have turned around earlier on CDs and designed the N64 as a CD-based console and third parties would've been happier with lower costs to distribute their games.

If you wanted a world Nintendo fell apart, I think the most likely scenario would've been one where the Sega Bandai merger happened. With that, you probably Butterfly Effect Gunpei Yokoi not dying, Sega gets access to anime IPs just a year before Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon becomes huge hits in the West, Bandai probably doesn't screw up and tip off Nintendo about the WonderSwan letting Nintendo adjust their GameBoy plans to compete, and the WonderSwan gets Sega's name brand recognition and developer talent behind it. As long as Sega Bandai doesn't screw up making a killer Dragon Ball Z game for the Dreamcast in this hypothetical timeline, I could see a world where Sega and Sony dominate the console and handheld markets and Nintendo maybe gets muscled out of the console market.
    >>
    >>12900592
    Correct.
    >>
    >>12905353
Oh, and you'd also have Sega talent behind Digimon as well. Not very familiar with Digimon and why it didn't have legs but a hypothetical stronger Digimon franchise that could better compete with Pokemon would've also helped to undercut the GameBoy's runaway second wind.

It would be better if consoles never existed. And it was just PC, arcade, and handheld.

You Zoomers have such shit attention spans it's unreal.
    >>
    >>12906304
That would never happen because 1) consoles are affordable unlike PC's. 2) people love owning physical copies of games, there is no appeal for them to own a digital library on Steam/GOG/Epic Games.
    >>
    >>12906314
Consoles didnt have to be invented. normalniggers would have never entered if it wasnt for consolekiddies
    >>
    >>12906314
PCs always had physical copies until big companies tried to kill pc gaming in favor of consoles.
