I never understood what was going on in this room. Can someone explain it? Are you supposed be in a hallway of mirrors and reflections or something?
>>12898083It's very literal - the evil magic is distorting reality creating fissures in time and space.
>>12898083>Game has a small chance of crashing as soon it loads this level>Apparently there's nothing you can do to avoid itThe worst thing is that it's pretty much the end of the game
Imagine the number of people who called customer service or tried to return the game>No sir, that's how the developers intended it!>Yes sir, I wish I knew why they did that too!
>>12898103I would guess it's VRAM related and caused by not killing specific enemies or breaking specific candles, or spending too long in another room. There's a similar bug in Portrait of Ruin where if you spend too long in the room with the moving platforms in the clock tower, it causes a memory leak that crashes the game if you use specific subweapons like holy water.
>>12898103>>12898238wow I had no idea this was even a thing, I don't think I ever had a Genesis game crash on me like that, I only experienced shit like that from PS2 gen forward. This game specifically I've played hundreds of times since I was 5 and it never once crashed on me
>>12898083You have to turn v-sync on.
Honestly the last level of Bloodlines sucks, upon replays I realized I only really like the first level a lot even though it's easy as shit, the rest of the game is not very fun
>>12898103If only there were passwords...
Why is Classicvania so popular all of a sudden? The catalog is full of Classicvania threads
>>12899272Probably all made by 1 guy or it's 2 guys making them influencing each other.Anyway Classicvania was always popular on /vr/
>>12898083So is it from the POV of the player looking through a window that is refracting or something?
>>12899272>all of a sudden?Are you retarded?
>>12898853The last level song is one of the best in the series tho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vlw3UWvBYd0
>>12899272Halloween.
>>12899756The soundtrack is the best thing about Bloodlines
>>12898103Source? I'm familiar with the Anniversary Collection emulated version having some crash or freeze issues when too many enemies are on screen, and with the game crashing out after 30-60 seconds of gameplay in the same emulated version, but nothing about this area specifically causing crashes on real hardware or emulators.
>>12899272isn't that pretty normal
>>12898083This comes off like they had a neat visual effect they were adamant about using but couldn't come up with a plausible reason for it. So we get a room that just looks bugged.
>>12899767That and the fully upgraded whip which is the sickest in the series and it's not even close
>>12899272Castlevania was always popular because it's managed to always remain relevant. They reinvented themselves with new games (or netflix shit) so each new generation discovering it looked at the old games to pretend they know what they're talking about and they're not interested simply because it's trendy and to tell themselves they know more than the trendies. This is how you have threads like "I don't know what it is but Castlevania Chronicles is not very fun", even though Akumajou Dracula on X68000 is pretty much the same thing as other classicvanias. Same with "damn this port of Rondo is BAD". The difference is that, those two game don't have "cult status" so with those it's okay to admit you never really liked Castlevania.
>>12900173Rondo and Chronicles are literally cult games. Opinion on X/XX has always been what it is. The default for these games is hard, so when they take another step in that direction, many people do not enjoy the result as it feels sadistic. Not hard to understand.
>>12900118My own experience + a few sources around the net:https://www.mobygames.com/game/6639/castlevania-bloodlines/>There was a bug in the game that occurred on level 6-2 that sometimes caused the game to crash! It seems to be a fault of the original game code.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/genesis/916377-genesis/faqs/9305>It should also be noted that there is a well-documented bug in the original game code that occurs on level 6-2 and will sometimes cause the game to crash.
>>12901265Wow I've played the game since I was a kid and still play it multiple times a year and I'm 31 now, not once did it ever crash on me
>>12901265I've played the game almost 50 times emulated and that never occuredEmulation wins again
>>12898083Why does it need to have an explanation? It's a great set piece.
>>12903381But what is going on from John Morris perspective or what is the player supposed to be seeing? Is it some satanic vampire curse effect or something? Room full of mirrors?
>>12903381no it isn't, it feels like arbitrary bullshit meant to drain lives before the very end of the game.
is this the one with the leaning tower of giza level
>>12903550But when the screen scrolls up in CV3 and what used to be ground level becomes a deadly pit, what is going on from Belmont's perspective or what is the palyer supposed to be seeing? Is it some satanic curse effect or something as both the game's dimension and the border of the TV fused? The ground collapsing in the game?
>>12903602Mad cuz bad
>>12898083Bloodlines was a tech demo
>>12898853The ammunition factory blows too, the level feels unfinished. Bland and empty. I really like the end level boss fight though. The boss fights are the one thing Boodlines has going for it, some of the best in the series.
>>12899272First of all, it's always been popular. Classicvania games are timeless.Second, Castlevania Belmont's Curse recently came out and brought the franchise back to the spotlight again. The game is shit in everything except for its character animations, but that's a whole 'nother story.
>>12903274And even if those crashes still happened on emulator, it's easy to just create a precautionary save state prior to starting the level just in case. It's one of the few instances where save states are completely justified.
>>12905396>The boss fights are the one thing Boodlines has going for it, some of the best in the series.I love Bloodlines and it's the CV game I've replayed the most alongside Dracula XX (I've beaten both games on a single life), but I disagree with that. Once you get good you realize how simple the bossfights are. For instance the final phase of Dracula, all you have to do is stand in place, let him come to you, jump and attack, let him get knocked back and fly back to you, repeat until he's dead. You barely have to do a thing except stand in place and time your jumps, it's ridiculous. The best bossfights in the series are in X-Rondo of Blood and XX

Okay I remembered that wrong it's a little more than that, but still the whole thing is really simple
HAHAwhat a mess!
