Blood spams them so much that they ruined a near perfect game. Imagine if half of Doom 2's zombies were chaingunners. It would be idiotic and everyone would rightfully complain about it. Blood should be treated no differently.

So you'd have no issue with Doom II having chaingunners as super common enemies?
    >>
    >>12897649
I exclusively play chaingunner slaughter maps. Pistol only.
    >>
take cover, crouch, pop out, throw dynamite etc
    >>
crazy concept, but imagine if the designers and current mappers took that into account and created levels around the cultists

    >>12897632
It's true, every word. I've heard you can adjust the hit scanners in modern versions to make it more palatable.
    >>
The cultists can definitely be annoying when they surprise you at close range. But:
    1) their lethality decreases by distance fairly quickly on standard difficulty
    2) any damage will stun them for a few seconds, which can use to your advantage
    3) they have a fairly sophisticated-for-the-time AI where they will investigate your last seen position, so you can pop out and alert them and ambush them when they come snooping (unlike Doom or Duke where enemies will walk into the wall trying to go straight toward you)
    4) once you get quick with the dynamite and general reflexes it's quite satisfying to dance around them and punish them

slice the pie and throw dynamite. fucking hell. how is this still filtering people 30 years later?
    >>
    >>12897632
most well balanced build engine game everything is viable you are just bad at the game. there is like a quicksave button if are find a hard time. my main strategy is just throw explosives and see if landed on a enemy.

Is /vr/ just zoomers bitching about how they lack the skill to play old games?

    >Imagine if half of Doom 2's zombies were chaingunners. It would be idiotic and everyone would rightfully complain about it. Blood should be treated no differently.

There are two differences between these two situations. Contrary to Doom 2's chaingunners, in Blood there are PLENTY of ways to counter the "machine gunners", for instance if you so much as tried to shoot a single bullet at them you'd have realized that's all it takes for them to stop attacking you for 2 whole seconds. And that's just one example.

The other difference is that you're retarded.
    >>
    >>12897632
just strafe around them lmao, unlike hitscanners in Doom they cannot adjust their aim instantly if you keep moving
    >>
    >accuracy: low
    >aggression: low

The way Blood was meant to be played

    >So, guys I have this problem that I've played this game called Blood. It was supposed to be harder than Doom 2, the developers made it to be harder than Doom 2, and it is harder than Doom 2. Imagine my surprise when I've played it and it was harder than Doom 2! And don't give me those bullshit replies like 'Then go and fucking play Doom 2!'. I'm onto something, alright?
    >>
    >>12898278
    >I'll play Blood but actually I don't really want to play Blood because I want to play Doom so instead of playing Doom I'll just this romhack of Blood that makes it so I can pretend that I'm actually playing Doom. I mean it's not like I have choice or that there were already 345,872 Doom maps out there or anything plus pretending that everything is Doom instantly makes it better since Doom is so cool

We need a Modern Arts and Fearbooks themed map.
    >>
    >>12897632
I played and beat blood, no mid level quick saving. It's a functional game but in the end I didn't particularly enjoy the extreme focus on cultist hitscan, not my cup of tea.
    >>
    >>12897632
Just git gud, you can dodge bullets in Blood, you can't even do that in Doom.

    >>12897649
I enjoy Final Doom, Stronghold is one of my favorite maps.

    >>12897947
    This also.

    >>12898221
Blood isn't even convoluted or anything, you interact with it like any other popular first person shooter of the era, it's just a bit harsh and unforgiving here and there.
Caleb's fragility is made up for by his agility and speed, and you're supposed to leverage that like a mad cunt.
    >>
    >>12897632
Doom Eternal made the FPS genre redundant.
    >>
From E2M6 on, Blood fucking sucks.
    >>
    >>12897632
Even one of the devs said they were a problem. Some of the later rereleases of Blood let you adjust enemies, I've beaten the unaltered vanilla game but still think the game is more fun when the cultists are toned down a little.

Nah I'll play the fun way instead
    >>
    >>12897632
I do think Blood is the most overrated of the Build... quadrology? It's hard carried by that low-budget slasher flick vibe that makes people just go totally retarded when it comes to quality evaluation (see DBD). It's not to say it doesn't have good elements, the weapons are pretty good up until the plasma gun invalidates them all, but I definitely wouldn't put it above Duke or Shadow Warrior or even Ion Fury like so many do.
    >>
    >>12900121
Have you tried like, shooting at them?
    >>
    >>12897632
Is there a difference in the remasters? I've completed Blood before on dosbox, but I recently bought the previous remaster on steam, and it feels way more difficult. The hitscanners feel way, way more accurate and lethal, never had much difficulty in my dosbox playthroughs
    >>
    >>12900156
Enjoying Blood due to the setting is entirely valid. Theming is a large part of what makes a game
    >>
    >>12900156
    >or shadow warrior
    ehhhhhhh
    >>
    >>12899454
Ugly overrated game. Flat levels, blurry colours, annoying monsters who yell maranax infirmox constantly in woman's voice. How is this better than Doukbis beyond my understanding.
    >>
    >>12900156
shadow warrior is trash my man and is rightly rated as the worst build game
    >>

    >>
    >>12900156
    >or Shadow Warrior
The whole reason people didn't have an issue with the SW remake was because the original was nothing amazing to begin with so why not try something new?
    >>
    too much hitscan BS
    >>
    >>12897632
Blood is a defensive shooter with guns that do bleed damage, grenades, remote bombs, and an inventory system. Doom is built around offensive gameplay and tons of chaingunners aren't a problem if the level's designed for them.
    >>
    >>12900926
    >Ugly overrated game
I refused to play Blood for many years just because I found it so ugly. The filthy brown color scheme was extremely offputting. But the weapons and level design more than make up for it.
    >>
    >>12897632
    > Imagine if half of Doom 2's zombies were chaingunners
    yeah that's called TNT
    >>
    >>12897632
Chaingunners are fine, because they still have a reaction time. Cultists just open fire on you immediately.
    >>
    >>12904009
Cultists are fine, because at least they get hit-stunned and try to move to dodge the player's attacks. Chaingunners just stand still and keep firing continuously.
    >>
    >>12904015
You can hit stun chaingunners with the chaingun, which they conveniently drop. When you take damage from them, usually it means you didn't prioritize or notice them fast enough. When you take damage from cultists, it just feels cheap.
    >>
    >WAY too many machine gunners
This while most cultists are the brownrobed shotgunner variety?
Blood is also one of the few 90’s FPS where you should really start on the medium skill setting, Lightly Broiled. They’ll have near perfect accuracy on anything higher.
If you’re stubborn and saying “but I don’t want to miss out on all the monsters!”, tons of ports allow you to customize the difficulty (ex. Lightly Broiled enemy behavior, Extra Crispy spawns.)
    >>12900816
Did you ever die and reload in the original DOS version on a higher difficulty? There’s a bug that flips the difficulty when you do that.

    >>
How is the refreshed supply port?
    >>
    >>12897638
Not him but the game did filter me admittedly. I still want to go back to finish it though it was fun. Just pretty difficult.

Maybe in the early levels. Later on very close to 50 percent have machine guns.
