do i even need to ask
Did you make this OP? (with Claude obviously)
did you know they brought apu back after 8 years?
>fanfic trannylation>ESL vibecoded slopthese are literally your only two options in the big 2026 unless you learn Japanese
>>12897590AI these days is better at both translating and hacking than humans, by a mile.
>>12897595Name 10 examples
>>12897630Once I'm done with my Metal Max 2 translation, you'll see. This shit only had a single game crashing bug during its development, one that was quickly solved obviously.
>>12897553I'm not downloading a translation that you threw up into a fucking mega lmao, create a patcher or fuck off.
>>12897646is that a dead dog
>>12897730I'm pretty sure it's an ant.
>>12897730Yes, Puchi didn't make it against Adam Ant.
oh lol its from that paleabyss dudeidk if his mtl are "good", but im too lazy to check anyway
Should I play this?
>>12897595>AI these days is better at translatingFuck no. Well hacking has always been the main bottleneck for fan translations, why would people not just use AI for the hacking part exclusively? Why does the actual script need to be MTL garbage as well?
>>12897950AI can't handle idioms, even when ordered to translate it literally it bursts into tears over it.
>>12898080There's a difference between "can do it but argues and pouts" and "makes mistakes".
>>12897950>Well hacking has always been the main bottleneck for fan translationsThis has never been true. I don't know why people keep saying this. And no, no translator worth their salt wants to mop up your AI slop.
>>12898080AI is never going to be able to interpret a piece of prose and create an analogy, it can do rough translation work but it will never be good at it.
>>12898080There's many things AI can be useful for when it comes to doing translation patches. Translating the actual Japanese text isn't one of them.
>pale abyss.ESL faggot.
>location canada>the "translator" might genuinely be a poo.
>>12898143I've seen it completely screw up a segment that was no more than 5 lines of very basic text. I've seen it mixup who was actually speaking, when the voices made it very obvious. The models are trained on translating modern conversational Japanese, technical manuals, scientific writings, etc. They're not trained on fictional literature. They don't understand the fictional universe the games take place in, they don't understand puns, idioms, etc. They don't understand characters that speak in odd and eclectic manners, etc. They 100% will screw that stuff up. The only reason you probably don't notice is because you don't actually understand Japanese well enough to recognize when it fucks up.It's pretty much translating games in the same manner as old fansubs that completely misunderstood what the characters were saying and got things wrong, resulting in people having a very warped sense of what was actually being said.
>>12898149That's a lot of generalizing for an ever evolving technological field.
>>12898151>That's a lot of generalizing for an ever evolving technological field. It's describing how it is right here and now. It may at some point in the future be able to do this kind of stuff, but right now it fails at it regularly whether you like it or not. And to be honest it's not that likely that people are going to start training these models on obscure and niche Japanese RPGs and Visual Novels. There's not much use for that outside of your bubble.
>>12898161The anecdote was earlier this week. Try again.
>>12898080>just 2 more weeksok ai jeet, can you wait these two weeks before spamming your broken slop everywhere then?
>>12897646I have a hard time to believe AI can translate this game in a suitable way (do more than just sticking to the same number of characters) without adding a bunch of glitches to the whole thing. With that said I don't believe aeon genesis would have been able to either>>12897739It's "Pochi", not "Puchi". Already you can't even get this simple thing right.
>>12897897It's basically>Shining Force 3 but the AI is dumb as a rock and to make up for it the only thing devs found to create a semblance of challenge was adding insane stat bonuses if there is so much as one step elevation difference between two charactersThe game is widely known for having been supposed to be the Saturn's swan song, but ended up being disappointing. Some of the art including 3D models during combat are cool and the story is alright I suppose.
>>12898246I always misremember the name because Poochy. How do you like the thin font? This was some major token usage to slop it together and it hasn't been nearly as playtested as the good old non VWF version. I'll just give people the option of using the more stable one with truncated names out the ass, or the less stable one with the narrow font. And if you're wondering why his name is "Zushio" and not "Ijiru" it's from save editing.
>>12898251Why is there two different fonts of two different sizes? I mean, I understand why but that looks super amateurish
>>12898264Because hacking VWF into this game is a complete shitfest. You know things are bad when Claude is telling you it's not a good idea, the yesman computer said "don't do it", probably why Gideon gave up on it.
>>12898251Here's an idea: stop being a lazy claude nigger and make VWF work without causing bugs. Like people have been doing for the past 25 years. ItLooksLikeShitByTheWay.
>>12898268>stop being a lazy claude nigger and make VWF work without causing bugs.I did not write one single line of code for this slop kino. It's all vibes here.
>>12897595>AI is better at translating and hacking than humans by a mile>translation quality still being argued>font sizes all over the place>dev admits he didnt write a single line of code>project is called complete>op posts a gdrive link>shill and defend shitlations on the shiturnthe future is now old man
>>12898080Eddy would 100% use AI for scams.
>>12898274The translation and hacking quality is genuinely amazing. You can have zero experience and slop together a functioning and coherent English patch in no time. Of course the actual polish is up to the end user doing the proompting, there will be many Japanese onomatopoeias and untranslated pun names.
Every new translation thread is exactly the same
>>12898368Yeah I wonder if that Russian data center could have been repaired that fast, or if they're just using a different one for their AI bots now
>>12898392I think the usual low-agency "vidya bad" posters have more incentive to follow the same pattern than Russian spooks.
>>12898368We just need an AI project containment board or something, this is completely unsustainable.
>>12898368and will be!
>>12897590AI stomps fan translations into the pavement. I'm amazed at how it can't seem to screw up anymore.
>>12898135Proof?
>>12898368Anti-AI translation trannies complaining? Yeah
>>12898392Rent free
>>12898634Attached is a gif from the latest build of the AI Grandia Digital Museum patch. This is a minigame where you have to hit the button at the exact moment Baal says his full name "Baal". To fake you out he'll say "Ba" rapidly so you have to kind of guess and get it right. The original Japanese is as follows:ワレハ ガーライルグンノ ショウグン followed by a bunch of バッ and then if you get it wrong he says ヒキョウモノメ. A rough translation of these lines would be something like this:"I am the leader/commander of the Garlyle Forces/Military, Ba- Ba- Ba- Ba-" followed by "Coward!". As you can see in the gif the AI has completely fucked it up. It didn't get that the the character was doing a fake out saying their name and instead translated it as laughing. Baal is no longer the leader of the Garlyle Forces but is instead the entire Garlyle Army itself. I'll again reiterate that this is an extremely simple and small amount of basic Katakana and Hiragana that it's fucking up. If it gets this wrong what makes you think it's going to get more complex shit you see in the actual story portions of your JRPGs and Visual Novels?
>>12899591Which AI model was this?
>>12898248>It's basically Shining Force 3 but the game isn't a retarded mess with shitty difficulty spikesSounds fun to me
>>12899752From what's in the github repo most likely the latest Claude Sonnet, Opus, or Fable. Which most of those models are pretty good for reverse engineering, coding, etc. if you know what you're doing. As stated previously though they're just not good at translating Japanese Fiction.
>>12899809There's no way that guy is paying for Fable and I doubt Opus would be that inaccurate.
>>12899825Well from the commits it was obviously claude code, and since that defaults to Opus 5.5 and that change was done in the last month that's most likely the model it used. You may doubt it would be that inaccurate but that's part of the issue with AI. The same prompt can give different results, and if it's being driven by an idiot you can get really bad results. On top of that the AI doesn't really have good context when given the raw data files. In this particular case the raw data has no context and the script isn't even in order for what's drawn on screen. So that's a recipe for this kind of mess. You need to remember the people pumping out these AI Slop patches are typically even bigger idiots than the people doing the human translations.
>>12899591I just ran it through the Gemini model offered directly from the Google search and it seems to have gotten it. Is there something I'm missing?
>>12899842Yeah, you're not a retard feeding the raw ISO file into Claude and saying "translate."
>>12899889I mean, to be fair, I gave the Google AI no context and it still translated it correctly, so I'm inclined to believe the guy did something wrong.
>>12900008>so I'm inclined to believe the guy did something wrong.Check the segaxtreme forums. There are two threads for two translations on Grandia Digital Museum, the one by the AI guy and the one by trekkies. The AI one is very very alpha and more like proof of concept and the guy said as much, acknowldgeing everything that was still wrong and in the works. But trekkies was mad because he had working on his own translation for years, and became very disingeneous about the whole thing, so he took every single thing where the AI guy said "I know this is broken, this is very alpha" and turned it into "ah! This is proof that AI is slop that can't do it right!"and he's been doing the same thing in these /vr/ threads. I know it's him because A) he's already posted in the past and made it super obvious it was him and B) the first time this thing was mentionned on vr this whole thing was contained on their forum and nobody else had knowledge of this, not even the posters in the vr romhacking threadBut at least now he's working on his translation of that game because all that matters is being first (I never understood this, if you're so convinced that AI can only produce slop, why not let them release slop and then come out releasing your better human version to show how much better your version is? instead it's like oh no they made a slop version, well pack it up and leave guys nothing to see here. Anyway...)I'm half convinced the AI guy, who came out of nowhere, is a fake and slopped that shit up in a couple of hours and specifically only posted on their forum and nowhere else to either troll trekkies or try to force him on working on his version. If only that worked with aegon genesis and Metal Max 2 too.
>>12900187You're probably right, because why would someone be this adamant about all AI being bad with just one example. That write-up was absurdly long for just one bum line.
>>12900187>If only that worked with aegon genesis and Metal Max 2 too. That lazy ass jew never even got started on Metal Max 2. You'll get my non-VWF and like it, it's old-school.
>>12900594actually I've already played the game like 5 times so I'm fine
>>12900602It's great right? I've put way more effort into this AI slop than you think. I've spent like 60+ hours just trying to make sure every menu and minor thing is translated and reads normally. It helps the game is fun if you like old JRPGs.
Will every translation in /vr/ devolve into "IS IT LE TRANNY??? IS IT LE AI?????" I couldn't even talk about SEGAGAGA because anons for some reason found it more cool to engage with rage bait rather than talk about the actual game.
>>12900609>>12900594Actually there is one thing that would sell me to your version, is if you also managed to make an alternate version, that includes the extras/good things from the GBA port:>the 2 extra bounty bosses>the 2 new rental tanks (but as extras rather than replacements like on GBA)>make the loading times before fights fasterEverything else about the GBA port was crap so it'd be like best of both worlds. IIRC the GBA version also made the "Horn R" available but nobody cares about that crap. But definitely as an alternate version because this stuff wasn't made by the OG devs who didn't even know that version was being made.
>>12900187Trekkies' part is finished and has been for a long time. It is held up by a lack of translation, per his thread.>>12900631It's rather difficult to talk about the game considering it's still de facto untranslated. Ostensibly there's the MTL version, but anyone who would have anything insightful to say about the game has good enough taste to not engage with that version.
>>12900708Just be upfront and say you don't like AI translation instead of sliming around the fact. The SEGAGAGA translation is completely serviceable, and enough to make people engage with the game and talk about it. Also, the translators themselves gave everyone the means to translate the game if they felt inclined to do so, which, to no one's surprise, not a soul rose up to the task. Since I know you are acting in bad faith I'll just call you a faggot and stop engaging.Faggot.
das fick ist ein wachenröder
>>12900775>The SEGAGAGA translation is completely serviceable, and enough to make people engage with the game and talk about it. So why did it come and go like a fart in the wind? Why does no one talk about it now?
>>12900775>The SEGAGAGA translation is completely serviceablehmm
>>12901504The two languages are so different that nuances like this slip through all the time. You need more than one example to show if something is shoddy, or something slipped through the cracks as usual.
>>12901504If they had used AI, then they wouldn't have made this mistake.
>>12901520You can put your head in the sand and pretend it's good all day. No one is playing it.
>>12901572The translation quality isn't what's keeping people from playing SEGAGAGA to be brutally honest.
>>12901572The translation quality obviously wasn't because of AI.
Seeing this box art made me remember a game called Rasetsu.Translation when?Maybe a decomp? Port it to newer Windows?
>>12901569Even Google Translate from 15 years ago would get this correct. It's probably not a translation mistake. I'd wager they bulk OCRed the textures and never bothered to check the output.>>12901574It's keeping me from playing it. I tried to play the patch after it came out and bounced off of it after about 30 minutes since it was obviously terrible.
For the people who care (nobody) my Metal Max 2 translation seems complete. I played through the entire game, tried to interact with every possible NPC, inspected all the truncated item and equipment names. Basically everything I could do as one person to test it. I have a question though, should the default second character name (as in if you put no name in on the naming screen) be Ijru (truncated Ijiru, his Japanese name) or Tink (truncated, but complete word that's the transliterated meaning of Ijiru)?
I'm currently using ChatGPT to extract the translated Japanese script from Conker Live and Reloaded and porting it back into Bad Fur Day.
