Why the fuck is this in the game? Who thought this was a good idea?

arcane tech for zoomers

Ocelot gotta get his rocks off somehow.

I am doing this and it's still FUCKING HARD on Hard mode. Why is the torture sequence harder on harder difficulties? I just wanted to play without the radar Kojima you fucking gook!

Here's my arcane tech nigga
>>
There used to be a time when tapping buttons fast was a video game skill.
>>
>>12897092
this desu
its a skill check
>>
>>12897092
not really, especially not anything resembling mgs1. the extra bit of damage rapid tapping might get you was almost always dwarfed by being in the right, place right time with the dpad.
>>
>>12897059
Kojima's cousin was doctor that specialized in hands, he put this in there so the rate of carpal tunnel syndrome would skyrocket in Japan therefore giving him cousin lots of business.
True story.
>>
>>12897061
>>12897069
I used a palm sander when I did it on Extreme. No regrets.
>>
>>12897092
Autofire was nearly universal in Japanese arcades since the early 90s and it's in just about every console STG. Not true
>>
>>12897069
just lose and continue
>>
>>12897234
Arcades didn’t start in the early nineties zoomie
>>
Why are there always people complaining about button-mashing sequences when modern games are full of MASH X NOW bullshit?
>>
>>12897252
MGS was released in the late 90s zoomie
>>
>people try to prove that MGS1 was lying and it won't detect autofire
>turns out it only works in original hardware using specific types of third-party autofire functions
but it really isn't in the Gamecube version at all.
>>
>>12897059
resisting the torture in mgs2 european extreme mode is literally the hardest part of the game
>>
>>12897246
THERE ARE NO CONTINUES, MY FRIEND

also Mei Ling forces a codec conversation right before the torture cutscenes saying she has a "bad premonition" if you haven't saved in like an hour.
>>
>>12897268
It's literally impossible on that difficulty unless you turn Raiden's head to look at Snake, which slows his oxygen loss. Solidus simply chokes you too long for you to survive without the O2 draining slower.
>>
>>12897059
Unless you're using an Xbox controller, this section of the game was pretty damn easy as long as you had a pen to roll over the button with. The PS1 buttons were made for this. The Xbox wasn't.
>>
>>12897059
It doesn't matter because the best ending is the one with otakon anyway
>>
>>12897185
Analog autofire

Unironically my dad quit this game during this part because he said "it's gay they strip you naked and torture you then one of the guards gets butt raped". It genuinely kept me from playing the game for over a decade combined with the naked raiden fiasco.

if you can't press a button fast enough, you are not qualified to play videogames. sorry chud.

OP here, I eventually figured out the best way to do this without autofire. The last time I played this game, I didn't know about the shirt trick, so I did it with my raw index finger and thumb, which left them blistered as hell, but I did get through it. This time, I did know about the shirt trick, so I wondered why it seemed so hard, but it's because I wasn't consistent. I kept thinking that as the torture progressed, I had to start mashing faster, but that's not true. The damage doesn't increase, only the time does. So consistency is more important than speed. While I was mashing faster with my first attempt at the shirt trick, I kept slipping off the button and letting in gaps where I took damage. This time, with my index finger and thumb wrapped in my shirt, I was able to clear the first torture session with nearly full health, even though I wasn't mashing as fast. I almost died on the second torture session because even with this, my arm started getting tired, but I did it anyway. It'll probably be harder on Extreme so I'm just using autofire there, I have nothing to prove

>a game's torture sequence causes you to feel pain IRL
Bravo, Kojima, you crazy genius
>>
You can't do it? Button-mashing is the easiest technique to learn but the hardest to master, because the difficulty increases exponentially as more presses are required.

In MGS1 the threshold for survival starts at less than 10 presses-per-second which is easy, and then gradually increases to 13pps by the last survivable torture sequence. 10pps is easy. 13 is hard but doable with practiced hands. Beyond this is extreme difficulty; with 16pps being the most widely-known current world record.

Some controllers are "faster" than others by design decisions that allow certain pressing techniques. I prefer shallow-press controllers that don't need much push to register an input, because it makes it easier to vibrotap buttons, which is a mashing technique in which you vibrate your whole arm so that your finger registers a button press with the frequency of the vibration, which is how I do single-button mash consistently at about 14pps.

>>12897092
Yeah and it damages my 70 euro dual sense.
>>
Fun fact I actually played the Windows 98 port of this but for the life of me I can't remember how they did this scene. It has been 27 years.
>>
>>12899239
you had to spin the scroll wheel fast like you were playing golden tee
>>
>>12897489
kek
>>
>>12897061
I've never uinderstood this tech. Unless you're physically disabled, this is slower than just mashing the button normally.
>>
>>12899369
Sliding the pencil across the button is absolutely not slower than mashing with your thumb. It's physically impossible to beat Ocelot's torture on Expert normally mashing with your thumb
>>
What you wanna do is hold your fingers like this and slide them back and forth over the button rather than than just trying to press it quickly with your thumb.Always worked well for me
>>
HOLY SHIT SOLIDUS'S TORTURE ON MGS2 EXTREME IS EVEN FUCKING WORSE FUCK YOU AND DIE KOJIMA
>>
>>12897059
When I was a kid and Ocelot says "And don't use autofire, or I'll know," I was terrified he would find out and erase my save or some shit. I still don't think I have ever tried turbo with that shit because what if he gets me? What if he comes and slams his bullet into my well-greased chamber until the whole room smells like cordite? Homo-I mean-horrifying.
