Is the Virtual Boy worth getting into? Something about it seems extremely cozy and full of soul.
>>
have they made emulators that can get hooked up to vr googles for it yet? unlike most retro games you actually do need the original hardware to get the real experience

red alarm and that wario game are really good

Sure, theres only a few dozen games but you're sure to find something you like.
>>
>>12896309
Yes, if you have a the Fagbook Quest 3 there are multiple VB emulators you can install directly in the headset itself via APKs, I tried it yesterday and the 3D effect is surprisingly good
>>
>>12896306
I played the wario land game years ago and remember liking it.

The headaches you get after aren't, however.
>>
>>12896306
I own all but 3 games. I love it but a lot of anons seem to hate it. There's not a lot of games for it but most of the ones that do exist are great.
>>
>>12896306
At least it's better than the Jaguar.
>>

The headaches were never real, that's just bullshit that YouTubers made up and it caught on because retards like you parroted it. Looking into a Virtual Boy is no different than playing on a Game Boy Pocket, and the black and red is actually easier on the eyes like a pinball matrix. And the 3d doesn't strain your eyes like the 3ds does.

It's not as good as real hardware, the 3d effect is hard to replicate properly.

It's a lot of fun, I'm glad I got one in the late 2000s when they weren't super expensive, but these days they tend to have a lot of technical issues. The ribbon cables that connect to each display are glued together and tend to come apart over the years, resulting in significant visual glitches on the screen that can really impact gameplay. I got mine repaired probably 10 years ago, I mailed the ribbon cables to someone who soldered them properly and since then no issues at all. But I don't know how easy it is to find someone to do that anymore.

If you can't find an original console that's been soldered, the best way to play them is on a hacked 3DS with the Red Viper emulator. It lets you play in proper stereoscopic 3D (the way they were meant to be played) and you can change the color palette so it can be, for example, green, which I find is a lot easier on the eyes. It may be the best way to play the system (although I personally enjoy playing on the original hardware wherever possible).

The library of released games, as limited as it is, is generally pretty good. Wario Land is excellent and worth the price of entry. There are also several homebrews and unreleased games that can be found online and are worth playing. If you have the money and the original hardware, a flashcart is a great investment.

Nah, those reports are from back in the day. Youtubers are your scapegoat for every revisionist bullshit you try to pull.
>>
>>12896306
Get a 3DS, hack it and load up the VirtualBoy emulator
>>

Reports from back in the day... From magazine articles written by teenagers who never actually tried playing it and just shit on it because it's Nintendo and not Sega.

Among people who actually own and play the thing you will never hear anyone mention headaches.
>>
>>12896715
actually my aunt had that problem when she tried it, she got motion sick

i think the real problem was people didn't set the focus bar correctly
>>
The Virtual Boy manual goes in great lengths on how to set it up properly and warns, not for headaches, but for mention sickness and says to take breaks every 30 mins.

With that said all games/consoles always adviced this kind of things and usually adviced to take 15 mins breaks every hour. The Virtual Boy goes to greater lengths though.

You can emulate on a Steamdeck and it'll give you options for 3D output. I do HDMI to my 3D TV using SBS. Looks kinda stretched but it works.
>>

>she got motion sick
Motion sickness only happens in VR due to games running at inconsistent framerates. That doesn't happen in the VB, and the VB isn't VR. Playing on the VB is like shining a bright flashlight into a dark room and looking at what you find.

Play Wario Land on it. It's great.+++ if you have some red/cyan glasses. It's the second best in the series next to 4.
>>
>>12896306
Just do whatever you want you fucking asshole. Why do you need approval?
>>
No. James Rolfe said it's shit.
>>
>>12896858
Quit it with the grand proclamations you stupid retard. God you're an idiot.
>>
It's max comf
>>
>>12897475
People are very weird about not wanting to "waste time" when looking for something to enjoy, and so they ask around to see if anyone can convince them one way or the other. Gotta get maximum dopamine/hour or something.

I think I got mine in 2014 very cheap, I was incredibly impressed but nowdays after using real VR it might be seen as interesting but very outdated. The imagine you can into is fairly small by todays standards but the 3d effect is real.

>>12896753
you just had to not be a pussy and get used to it
>>
>>12896306
beside wario I don't find anything interesting

If you've got a 3DS, there's a relatively new emulator called Red Viper that's awesome.
