Saturn is going to go down as the greatest retro console in history. It's not the best in graphics and technology, but the creatiivity of the videogames is incredible.

Bernie Stolar Killed The Sega Saturn

>>12896129
Hello Bernie Stolar. Saturn still lives in your head, rent free?
>>
>>12896127
Is this list supposed to be impressive ?

You included Shining wisdom which is considered pretty bad even by Camelot fans
>>

>Bernie Stolar Killed The Sega Saturn

How ?

Saturn was already dead in the US even before Bernie and PlayStation raped the Saturn in japan too without Bernie influence
>>
LOL ITS JUST ANIMESHIT EVEN PSX HAD BETTER ANIMESHIT
>>
>>12896160
By ending support for the Saturn and saying "The Saturn Is Not Our Future". If Nintendo had done this while the Gamecube was struggling against both the Xbox and PS2 at the time, the fans would have thrown a fit against Nintendo for ending Gamecube support way too early. Bernie Stolar Killed The Sega Saturn.
>>
>>12896159
>>12896161
You are both dumb as shit. The quality of these is obvious.
>>
>>12896165
He end the support because it's a flop anon
>>
>>12896168
JUST TRUST ME BRO
>>
>>12896169
You may as well call the Gamecube and N64 a flop for underperforming as well. At least Nintendo continued support. Bernie chickens out, ends the support of the Saturn, effectively sabotaging Sega by killing the Saturn and then leaves the company before the Dreamcast even launched in the U.S.. He was a snake in the grass. He's Sega's Vince Russo.

ignore the gay underage fags arguing about the history of the saturn in this thread. only real connoisseur gamers discuss the saturn.

as per your question OP, maybe not the greatest retro console in history but its in the top 5 for sure. I particularly enjoyed playing panzer dragoon saga, enemy zero, and many other games. underrated console for sure.

those had terrible gameplay though

>too early

is this what people these days actually believe? The Saturn was already dead when he said this.

The timeline was like this
>1995, PSX and Saturn come out in the USA.
Next Generation magazine had a pretty good phrase to forsee what was going to happen, they said "In a year everyone will know which console will come out on top"
>precisely one year later, 1996, numbers clearly show the PSX outselling the Saturn by a large margin
At that EXACT moment that Next Gen had predicted, everyone started cancelling their Saturn releases. All you have to do is check what was announced to be released for the Saturn at E3 1996, compared to what ended actually coming out. It's like, half. Why? Because even Sega themselves had trouble selling their own games and found themselves with stock of hundreds of thousands of stuff like Sega Rally.

From then on it's a slow death, until
>1998: even Sega's own games had re-releases Shining Force III, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Burning Rangers in very low quantity because they knew it wouldn't sell
>cue "Saturn is not our future"

You really have to know nothing about the story of the Saturn in the US if you think "they killed the console too early" with the "Sega in not our future" line, that line came when the Saturn had already been dead for some time. The fact is that the PSX killed the Saturn from the very start as both consoles targetted very similar audiances (unlike the N64), and by mid '96, one year after its release, once everyone enough data to look back on (rather than just what Stolar said in interviews up to that point which were lies, inflated sales numbers), that became apparent to everyone.
There is also the fact that Sega's practice was always to release a new console before the competition. The Megadrive was 2 years before the SNES, the Saturn would have been 2 years before the N64 except the PSX did the same thing as them and took their market, and the Dreamcast was 2 years before PS2/NGC too.

Zoomercoded thread with the over exaggeration and extremist opinion.
Not everything you enjoy has to be the "BEST EVAHH!!1!"
Saturn is mid with a few really good games, and guess what? If it's YOUR favorite that's good enough you broccoli haired faggot.

Why do zoomers need approval for everything they enjoy or do?

Sega fans are the most delusional people in this hobby that’s already autistic. Literally no one had this console in the US, it BARELY sold 2 million. It was filled with garbage. It is a novelty at best, the Sega Saturn ain’t even hitting top 8 in best retro consoles. The Dreamcast is also a novelty at best, theres like 30 games worth playing on it and half of which are arcade games
1. PSX
2. PS2
3. NES
4. GENESIS
5. SNES
6. NDS
7. PSP
8. N64

Wisdom is the worst, even more so than the PS2 games.

The lifespan of the Wii U was 5 years, which is normal.

>>12896553
False. The Saturn wasn't dead at the time, it was still too early, Saturns were still on store shelfs before Bernie pulled the rug and killed the Saturn. Support for a system should last up to 5 years. 1 or 2 years into it's lifespan is too early to kill it off before giving it a chance to actually grow. Bernie Stolar killed the Sega Saturn.

The Saturn is still getting better in 2026. The non-vibecoded Metal Gear Solid port is coming along nicely and there are plenty of others in the works (sloppa and otherwise). Soon there will be literally zero reason to own a PS1 and they can all be dumped into a landfill alongside the N64s already there.

Sega won. They fucking won!
>>
>>12898282
are the ports made by Frogbull real ports or just homebrew recreations?
>>
>>12897810
No it doesn't suck.
That's the thing with the modern Anti Saturn sentiment: it's insincere.
You posers claim to hate it because people overrate it, but you're causing fatigue with your Saturn underrating.
At this point I'll start making Saturn threads just to piss you off. And no, posting your "shitturn" and ither variants of your middle school-tier "humour" won't brother me, go ahead, out yourself everytime.
>>
>>12898831
I played Magic Knight Rayearth expecting to like it, and it sucked. Working Designs botched the translation like usual and the middle school girls sound like adult women who frequently speak in bizarrely formal ways. Remember "If I'm to continue..." from Sonic Adventure? That's every other line in Magic Knight Rayearth. Working Designs manages to be completely unfaithful to the original script AND sound like a machine translation, spectacularly capturing the worst of both extremes.
The game itself, as someone who's never watched the anime (I'm an adult man and not a little girl), seems to be a very rushed adaptation that doesn't take the proper steps to adapt the story to a game. The Magic Knights meet a boy in the woods, and 30 seconds of gameplay later he's like "Whew, we've been together for awhile, huh?" Then he starts flirting with glasses girl in an exchange that sounds like it should have been preceded by multiple chapters of build-up but was in reality preceded by literally 30 seconds.
I played the game for two hours and there was maybe 3 minutes of gameplay, dwarfed by the unfunny and juvenile cutscenes. The gameplay that was there featured enemies that could kill me in 2 hits in the starting area because it's a Working Designs product and they love jacking up the difficulty in little girl games that don't have the mechanics to support the difficulty artificially inserted in after the fact.
Magic Knight Rayearth fucking sucks and it's BLEAK indeed that this is so frequently named as one of the Saturn's best games. You could at least mention Baroque, Asuka 120%, Bulk Slash, the AM2 fighters, Gungriffon, or anything actually good, we don't have to pretend that we're stuck with the games that came out in the USA when we live in the year 2026
>>
To say one positive thing about Magic Knight Rayearth, I like the diaries. It does a good job of fleshing out the Magic Knights. When the boy protects glasses girl, the tomboy redhead's drawing focuses on the cool fight, while glasses girl's drawing is just a drawing of the boy because she has a crush on him. Cute! Not cute enough that I wanted to keep playing this shitty game though

Bernie gets a bad reputation for "Saturn is not our future" but few people realize the context. The assumption seems to be that he walked on stage at E3 1996 and spontaneously declared Saturn dead for no reason. But that's not what happened. The line comes from a September 1997 interview with EGM. The Saturn was already toast by then and Stolar was relatively new to Sega. He walked into a house fire and had to put it out. Even the interviewer opens with "Saturn's fucked huh?" FFVII had just launched. The Saturn was barely selling. Continuing to support it would have been throwing good money after bad and making retailers furious as they kept pushing unsellable merch on them.

We never heard from Bernie himself on this. Everything we know comes from Victor Ireland of Working Designs who had an axe to grind since he was one of the few Saturn developers still putting games out. But put yourself in Bernie's shoes here. This Working Designs guy who insists on publishing Saturn games in 1998 that will sell 10,000 copies max is pissed because you want to cut your losses and get a fresh start with the Dreamcast. Is that the guy you placate at the cost of pissing off Toys R Us as you ask them to keep stocking Saturn memory cards nobody will buy?

He didn't kill the Saturn. It was already dead when he walked in the door. Cutting it loose and telling everyone the Dreamcast will be a fresh start actually worked at first. The Dreamcast launch was great. It had other issues down the line that had nothing to do with Bernie but the strategy he had during this interview made sense.

>>12899041
>entire 2km critique is literally only about the localization and getting filtered by early enemies
oh nonono antisaturn sisters
>>
>>12899104
You can make up a ton of lame excuses for Bernie Stolar, but the bottom line is he killed the Sega Saturn. He didn't put up much of a fight to win back customers and retailers. Instead he thought Dreamcast would solve all Sega's problems, except he left before the U.S. launch of the Dreamcast and we know that didn't end well for Sega. Piracy Killed The Dreamcast of course, but Bernie killed the Sega Saturn first. The "Saturn is not our future" line killed off good will with customers and retailers. So stop pretending he's some sort of hero, he didn't save Sega.
>>
>>12899268
srsly, anti-WD retards are the absolute dumbest sheep on this board
>>
>>12899104
throwing the Saturn under the bus to win good goy points with... who exactly. bizarre jewish conduct.
>>
>>12899857
The Saturn was already dead when he gave this interview. It was September 1997. That is the same month FFVII launched. You'd have to be high to think that the Saturn had any legs after that point. Games like Resident Evil 2 and Tomb Raider 2 were already not coming to the system. If major publishers were abandoning it there was nothing to salvage. Bernie didn't kill the Saturn, he was the one who pulled the plug but the thing was brain dead already. If anything he saved Sega's reputation. Had he not pulled the plug there's a chance the Dreamcast launch would have been a nightmare as retailers would have had no faith in the company.

False. Saturn was dead after he made that interview.

>>12900238
