This game's actually fairly impressive. It looks like an MMC3 game despite basically running on the UNROM/CNROM-tier hardware of the FDS.

best mario
>>12898475Yeah it feels like a unique otherwordly adventure and has a tons of atmosphere, on top of its insane replay value with all the different characters. Why yes it was my first Mario game how could you tell
>>12898475Which was not supposed to be mario, ironic.
>>12898475Dunno about best, but it was good enough for nips to want the burger version
>>12900206Heh, wow. Ironic. What a strange turn of events. That this famous "Mario" game was... wait for it... a doki game about picnics that had NO Mario in it. Bet most of you didn't know that little nugget, huh?
>>12900246Missed the opportunity of calling it BAKA GAIJIN MARIO
>>12900372Wow wow wow... wow. You should make a youtube video about this worldwide conspiracy!
>>12895163Really nice level design too, creative secrets and twists on using the mechanics.
>>12898475That ain't no Mario, bro..
>>12895163Bio Miracle is similarly good-looking for FDS hardware, but that's about a year later
>>12900396its original name was BAKA BAKA PANIC
>>12900401I remember back in early youtube when niggers were first making gaming vids, how people would talk about SMB2 like it was a fucking conspiracy that it was different in Japan kek
>>12901307Yes genius, that is the joke. Irate Gamer made an infamous video about it.
>>12900246>SMUSA releases 5 years after DDP>and only 9 months before it was included in SMASWhat a retarded release.
>>12902183USA was ¥4,900https://gamecatalog.net/super-mario-usaAll-Stars was ¥9,515https://collection.rcgs.jp/page/PACKAGE0001577
>>12902176fucked up he never got as big as angry video game nerd
>>12900992>>12900396US title should have been "Low moral Mario"
Mario if he terroras
>>12902183The first few months is when a game seels the most so they knew what they were doingAnyway, it really sold nothing for a Mario game, in fact the title must have been super confusing since usually when something was labelled "america" in Japan it meant it meant it was designed in America; but for that matter Dookie Picnic didn't sell well either. This must be the """""Hidden Gem""""" Mario game in Japan. I suppose these days Japanese retards must be like "this is the Mario game made for Americans so it's not a real Mario game and you can skip it"
>>12902183nintendo were desperate to have a title to sell. they took doki doki panic, stripped out most of the sprites, data and other licensed shit, and started again with bingbingwahoo because the success of smb was enormous. smb2 was not good. they basically apologized with smb3 so all was forgotten.
>>12902358>This must be the """""Hidden Gem""""" Mario game in Japanno such thing. that's an invention by retards of the last 20 years that weren't born when this shit was around so everything they don't know of is a "hidden gem". so hidden that people have known about it for nearly 4 decades. gem status: completely hidden
>>12902358If it sold so little, I wonder why it's actually fairly cheap for a late-release Famicom game. It's only like $10-20 for a cart.
The original sequel to Super Mario Bros is fun, but I'm glad they decided to use Doki Doki Panic for the rest of the world. The original version was too similar to the first game while the U.S. version started the tradition of each Mario game being different from the previous one, at least as far as retro games go.
>>12902358I'm sure they played it on All-Stars too like a lot of us.
>>12902190Alright, I guess it being a budget title for people who never got/no longer owned an FDS and didn't yet have an SFC serves as a good justification for its existence. I personally prefer the aesthetics of that version over the All Stars version, but had I been a Japanese gamer at the time, I'd certainly have rather saved the money to put toward a copy of SMCollection (and a SFC, if I didn't already own one).
>>12902608Those sale numbers are probably incomplete, but even then I expect a lot of people to be like "I can just play this game on FDS or SFC so why keep this in-between version"
>>12902608>If it sold so little, copies of fds titles are most certainly severely under estimated or wrong. nintendo had kiosks all over japan as well so it's difficult to get exact numbers over time.
>>12904037Kiosks kept exact numbers of sales, that's how they knew how much money should go to whom.
>>12902291>why did a cheap knockoff not get as popular as the thing it's copying
>>12904046>clueless ipad baby gets all it's knowledge from a youtube it watchedMany such cases
>>12902176Why were gamers on youtube so angry back then
>>12905238They were trying to fit in with the outrage industrial complex
Little known fact, folks... "Doki! Doki! Panic" was developed from a Mario demo for vertical platforming. So this obscure Japan-only release is actually a Mario game. Funny, huh?
>>12905238People often get mad at games. The early days of YouTube were when a lot of late teenagers to early 30-somethings were of the age to reminisce about the games of their childhood and how frustrating and cryptic they found some of them. AVGN was a breakout hit for tapping into, and patodying/exaggerating this shared experience, so a lot of people tried to make their own knockoff, as happens when something new and popular comes out. Just like right now the fad is long, overly analytical "video essays" about random bullshit.
>>12905271>let our powers combine>NU>AIBy your powers combined you are captain shitposter
>>12895163its actually a chinese bootleg donkey kong game called donkey-donkey picnic, which explains why food is so prevalent throughout
