Any of you guys ever found an explanation for this strange underground grotto in Ocarina of Time? It looks like a weird unfinished beta room but it's in the official game.
The mystery door in Rondo.
Things like this are in tons of games. Dark Souls games for example. Doors blocked off with rocks. Just remnants of cut content.
>>12894374>explanation for this strange underground grotto in Ocarina of Time"Hey guys, the overworld is kind of barren, should we delay again and add a bunch of individual unique stuff to it? No way, Fagi-son! Let's just copy-pasta that demo area all over the place, you know the one the interns created that we said looked like shit?"
>>12894374for me, it's the room at the end of the ice cavern. definitely was one of the first rooms they worked on for the game
>>12894421Still mogged by Rare. Many such cases.
>>12894435Rare got mogged by Naughty Dog and never ever recovered
>>12894374this was always such a bizarre and underwhelming final level to me. it genuinely looks like it was modeled in one weekend and filled with leftover objects/texturesalso the lava looks like complete shit and functions like lethal water for some reason
WHAT IS BEHIND THE DOOR
>>12894374It probably was a beta room, or more likely just a room they had for something else that got repurposed. I love this shit doe, keep it up.
The flooded torture chamber in Quackshot. The only underwater section in the game. No enemies, just few traps exclusive to this place. There's a route that doesn't make sense. This place feels empty and rushed.
>>12894435bit of an apples and oranges comparison. It would be more effective to show one of rare's n64 games doing the mogging. 2D almost always mogs early 3D
>>12894374I read a neat possible explanation for this room's walls being like that.Look at the ceiling. There's a stone ceiling, right? That's because there's a Fairy's Fountain above this room, accessible from the Sacred Meadow. The Fairy's fountain walls also have a strange texture, and that might be connected to the walls in this room. The crystal walls might be some kind of magical ore that Fairy's Fountain's walls are made from, or they hold a special energy that make them attract fairies. Just a neat hypothesis I like.
>>12894374>It looks like a weird unfinished beta roomnoit doesntit looks like an N64 texture trying to appear like some seekrit crystal cavewhich is what it is
>>12894421youre clearly just dramatically overestimating how much space N64 carts had for shit like textures
>>12894421I'm not quite sure what they were going for with the kaleidoscope wall but it's still pretty cool, definitely an iconic scene in the game. The 3DS version went for a less fantastical approach but it's still a pretty cool looking room, I liked how you still don't see any actual walls in there and it's just endless darkness beyond the ice crystals.
>>12894441Not even close.
>>12895691yeah, bro, grabbed by the ghoulies was so good
>>12894374>Surprised a nintendie game looks unfinished
>>12894374
>>12894387It was roved om the PSP remake, you still get the hidden room but there you find some candles, one of them with a music CD
This room remains always memorable for the heartwrecking outcome if you kill the dog
In a game where you visit flying gardens, underwater palaces and the Tower of Babel, this still managed to feel out of place.
>>12895706Well... yeah, if nothing else Nintendo games are known for their overall polish. Even the most insane sufferer of Tendie Derangement Syndrome should be able to grudgingly admit that.
This room in the Paris Catacombs level in Medal of Honor: Underground. These random textures have puzzled me for two decades
