What went wrong?
Nothing, these games are excellent. The only issue was that no one had a ps2 modem. That being said, you can play them now with your friends, with a ton of enhancements.
>>12893838Trannies and normies
>>12893838Long loading times
>>12893838No internet connection. That's it
this was back when colleges blocked online gaming so the ~100 people who bought it couldnt actually play it
>>12893838Released in the Ps2 instead of the xbox where online was a thing. No legacy characters. Not gory enough. Kinda sucks that you can't decapitate zombies.Still used classic RE formula which was already kind of dated by Code Veronica. The AI is kinda bad. Particularly in 1 where you can't change choose your team and the game seems like it chooses a compatible team member and a not compatible team member. So in most maps its effectively you and a single AI partner.Online is cool and all but the community has a terrible speedrun mentality so unless you play with friends/newbies, you will be playing along 2 assholes who miss the point of the games That said is one of my favorite REs. And thats without online and a slim ps2. I beat the 2 with almost all characters. I even beat very hard in file 2 all scenarios but only with Kevin and plenty of reloads.Hope that browser version project takes off.
>>12893838Too early, if these games dropped during the 360/PS3 they would be praised as the greatest RE games ever made. As it is they are only the second greatest RE games ever made behind 5.
>>12893948>no legacy charactersOne of the best parts of these games
>>12893838There was an odd number of real girls who played this. Every other friend I made on it back in it's heyday was a chick. Which I guess makes sense cause women love horror just didn't think there'd be so many.
>>12893985/thread
>>12893838Lack of content. There were only like, 5 levels in each one. Double the amount in each game, and then you have a full release.
>>12894003It wasn't until seven when non RE1&2 OGs were able to stick around. Before Ethan and Grace you had Steve, Billy, the RE6 OCs, Sheva, etc.For better or worse the OGs seem to carry a lot of appeal for certain people..Also rip Alyssa who was added to 9 just to kill her unceremoniously.
>>12893838online capabilities in 2004 or so
>>12893847>That being said, you can play them now with your friends, with a ton of enhancements.really? seems fun. how so? is there couch co-op?
>>12893838- The AI of the characters is horrible, the characters literally run to the enemies to be killed by them.- To get the "infinite mode"(the mode to have infinite weapons) is a total nightmare. Why the infinite mode is not avaible from the beggining?- Another option that deserved to be avaible from the beggining was the "lone wolf" mode wich enables you to play without any partners(very useful in the stage hospital of the first game, by the way). Again, why the "lone wolf" mode was not avaible from the beggining?- In the hard difficulties, enemies are infinite. I mean, i know they are the hard difficulties, but it feels unfair how you already have killed like 10 enemies in a same room BUT they keep spawning again and again and again.- Annoying loading screens every time you go to another room.- The game had chance of presenting new enemies, and it has new ones yes, BUT very few ones. In most stages most enemies are zombies and can be boring. I expected more new b.o.w.s., but few new ones appear.- Very limited item carry, even more limited than most resident evil games. That instead of being challenging, what happens is it makes the game annoying.
>>12894839obsrv.org , check their wiki. tl;dr emulate it and set the fan server IP and DNS. You can halve the load times, use hd textures, proper widescreen, even have a real time status tracker as you play. No couch co op.
>>12893847>with a ton of enhancementslike what?hopefully you're not talking about upscaling nigger shit
>>12893838a memory of a time when they tried so hard and got so farbut in the end it didn't even matter
To sound cliche it was too ahead of its time.I didn’t know a single person growing up that had PS2 online. It wasn’t until the 360 came out that everyone started playing online console games. If outbreak came out on PC it would have been more successful and more easily preserved. I know there’s an ultra dedicated fanbase who reverse engineered the servers just to bring the game back online. I have to thank them as they’re responsible for Monster Hunter 1 & 2 coming back online as well since they shared the same server architecture.
>>12894995>>12895063Nigger
>>12893838Piss poor game design. Most people back when it came out played the Outbreak scenario a few times and dropped it. Making the introductory scenario all new players are forced to play a hectic clusterfuck where you're constantly being chased by a horde of infinite zombies while they're trying to get acclimated to all the unique gameplay elements was beyond fucking retarded.
>>12895285?
>>12895116>and got so farStill mediocre results.
>>12893838The single player sucks and at this point it really is annoying to play it online. I've got probably over a thousand hours in it and I still get annoyed when I join a room with randoms and some dipshit is just speedrunning everything picking up all the guns and spamming demands that I give them MY guns and shit too.If you have some friends to play with or can find good players who aren't huge spergs it's an amazing game though.
>>12894904A big problem was that the AI could pick up key items you absolutely needed, and then wander around the map, making levels virtually unbeatable on a whim if you couldn't find them, or they died in an area with a very powerful enemy. Locking AI away from picking up key items would've made the game less of a headache, but the AI would still steal valuable weapons and ammo. Just get rid of the fucking AI, or make them start with their own items and wander around, but not pick up anything unless you wanted/asked them to. It's a fucking nightmare.I get what they were going for, but it really was a showcase on how incompetent Japanese developers are with AI. They are good at making AI with extremely limited constraints, and making the AI perform to their strengths within those constraints, but the second you involve open world aspects, it becomes extremely obvious they are either A) Terrified of artificial intelligence autonomy and lock the NPC's in one spot, or B) Have no idea how to properly foresee balancing issues, which results in wildly broken experiences.
>>12893838>4 item slots>you run out of ammo in 1 minute>don't know where to go or wtf to do 90% of the time>time limit so you are discouraged from exploring>game doesn't tell you or give you hints eitherIf you like this game you are a legit fucking retard
>>12893948The game was made to run on Quake 3 EngineCapcom had the chance to port this as the RECV fps into it as PC too, but nope, "mother" sony would be angry.i hope that someone reverse engineers it back to quake 3 or RTCW someday.
I'm kind of hoping those vibe coded multiplayer ports of OG Resident Evils get popular as fuck thanks to streamers and Capcom finally does something with Outbreak again.
>>12899014>Running out of ammoYou're just bad at the game. Maybe you came from the PSX trilogy where you can just shoot everything, but that's not really what you're supposed to do in Outbreak. On the higher difficulties at least. I think on Normal and stuff they still give you plenty of ammo to shoot everything.I think some of the puzzles are a little obtuse, but again you're supposed to be playing with 3 other people. The time limit is also a total non-issue in almost every scenario except the police station on file 2. It's more to discourage you getting knocked down and picked up a bunch than it is to discourage you from looking around, since that's the only thing that makes it jump up really.>>12899069They just don't care about Outbreak. It took them 20 years to bring a character from it back (outside of the note in 7) and they did it in a game where they mention that basically any non-main character Raccoon City survivor is just going to die of a mystery disease to softly kill them all off.
>>12899014>im a niggerfaggot that can't play games
>>12899243>You're just bad at the game.To expand on this, in File 1 at least almost every enemy in the game is just a zombie. You should never shoot a zombie (outside of the last encounter in the police station scenario on file 2), you can just tackle them once and that stuns them long enough to run through them. You can shoot the other enemies if you want but almost every character is better off using their dodge or some other character mechanic to deal with them. If you're using guns and it's not a boss fight you're probably fucking up.
>>12899069Capcom considered Resistance the spiritual successor to Outbreak. It was called Outbreakers in internal documents.
>>12893838The AI companions are very dumb and may cause you to fail. It could be alleviated if you can ever find a good group to play the game alongside.
>>12899058It's been decompiled recently I think.
>>12899014Based
>>12902138i really hope they port it using the idtech3 source as base
>>12899014Cringe
>>12899278>To expand on this, in File 1 at least almost every enemy in the game is just a zombie. What the fuck? Did you even play the game? The very first scenario after the tutorial has you encounter Hunters, Lickers, and a Giant Moth.
