The NES arguably has the most interesting console library because of how much you can see game design evolve through it's lifespan
A lot of stuff people think is just obvious common sense today was established on the NES

I fucking love the Electrolab, it's so fucking solid and beautiful

also, the invention of a jew engineer. He claims he got Nintendo USA's permission to do it, he even licensed some games, but finally cracked under argie customs pressure for gibs and left the country

Really? Wow. That's a great story. I heard that after this was made Miyamoto had a celebration party and did naked cartwheels down the office corridors of Nintendo's HQ in Japan. Elvis came back alive via magic and started writing music for them. Really happened.

RF-Only is gay. The Famicom AV is cool but I still prefer an AV-modded original model for the design.

Every NES game I had as a kid

    >TMNT
    >SMB2
    >SMB3
    >Chip n' Dales
    >Tiny Toons Adventures
    >Duck Tales 2
    >Double Dragon 2
    >Mission Impossible
    >Astérix
    >The Smurfs
    >Defender of the Crown

Games I remember playing with others
    >Double Dragon
    >Double Dragon 3
    >Super Off Road (4 players)
    >Super Spike V'Ball (I think we played that 4 players too)
    >SMB/Duck Hunt
    >Saint Seya (Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque)
    >Dragon Ball
    >TMNT2

Overall we leaned heavily towards platformers, + Double Dragon (every kid who had an NES had at least one game from the trilogy, it was the hottest thing, meanwhile it's like nobody knew Mega Man or Castlevania) but at least I played some games only released in Europe and got some four score action
    >>
    >>12894986
    You didn't rent?
    >>
    >>12895226
Where I live there was (still is and it applies to streaming) a law that stipulates you can't rent anything unless it's at least 9 months old. As a result the rental system wasn't developed at all. IIRC there was one video rental store in town which at some point just turned into just an automated kiosk, but I'm not sure if they even did games. Once I got old enough to actually buy games myself (12+ years), I'm positive there was no rental, however for a medium sized city, we actually had 3 different video game stores, all located next to each others. People usually sold back games to them for store credit (or cash, but then you get less) and then get new games and so forth.
    >>
Where is Castlevania and how do I get there?

I don't want to because I already played it 35 years ago and I think it wouldn't be worth even the small trouble of trying it again.
    >>
    >>12896074
It's a Rare game on NES so at some point I expect there will be some bullshit such as in order to win you have to do nothing or there is a boss with really fast health regen except you have no way of knowing it
    >>
    >start playing this
    >the field of view thing on the top down parts is super annoying and ugly but okay I'll deal with it
    >miss rate for attacks is like 40% miss chance, including spells
    >How the fuck do I heal? Inns? Nope. Spells? yes but apparently you can't learn it until you're at least lvl5, grab a boat, reach a new continent, and pay to upgrade your stats. Even though there are at least 2 dungeons and 4 towns on this continent. Okay but you can buy tents to heal... Nobody sells tents in the first 3 towns. In fact most of the towns feel completely pointless.
    >Fine I'll grind to lvl5 then
    >grinding for the thief is super annoying because characters only get exp for the enemies they personally kill and he can only kill 1 enemy at a time and it always takes at least 2 hits, misses non included. To earn 3xp per kill and you need 100 for a single lvl up.
    >make it to lvl3, suddenly half of the enemies are super strong and I can't get the spells that work against them yet. And remember I still can't heal. I'm thinking okay, they have to yield a lot more exp and gold to make up for that right? They don't.

So now I'm thinking, I have to create new lvl 1 characters, to replace the two that I made lvl 3, and do the exp grinding and only lvl up once everyone has enough to reach lvl5, and only then hurry the fuck up to get the boat and reach the continent where I can finally upgrade my stats and learn new spells. And I only know about that because I checked a guide, otherwise I'd naturally be wasting my time in the dungeons that are on the starting continent.

I am NOT having fun holy shit. I can handle the bullshit progression but if that miss rate doesn't improve I don't think I can take more of this.

I'm trying to use this program to write to a physical FDS disk. I have a Super Mario Bros. 2 disk with nothing on Side B so I want to put All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. on it. The FDSKey part works, but whenever I reconnect the Expansion RAM to the FDS and insert a disk, it gives ERR:NO POWER. What does that mean? It has a completely useless ReadMe. Is it because I'm using batteries for my FDS? Or because my Famicom is USB-power modded?
    >>
THEY DONT WORK. 2 OUT OF 2 I BOUGHT GET GRAY SCREEN OF DEATH. WHERE THE FUCK ARE LEGITIMATE MODERN PLAYERS
    >>
    >>12906412
The Famicom I bought works. Probably because it's a top loader. The front loading NES has a terrible mechanism. I won't recommend the Famicom for everyone, the controller cords are a real concern. But definitely consider the AV Famicom with a converter, or the top-loading NES. Also, clean your carts with isopropyl and a qtip, that removed most gray screens for me.

I enjoy the music from NES Gauntlet.

Robocop sucks but the ED-209 in it looks pretty cool. Bosses made of background tiles or whatever can be impressive, although some of them look bad because they don't move enough

I've been playing Fire Bam and it's alright so far. Well except from completing an entire Zelda 2 style dungeon only to find out I can't hurt the boss at all because I was supposed to enter another area first but I couldn't have known that since there is no logical progression. At least there are no real consequence for dying.
