This was cool. I had an idea for a map like this years ago, where certain areas of the map silently teleported you to a hell dimension. They did a great job with this since you always know the purple floor changes worlds, and leaving it sends you back.

decino who basically left the community to be a dad (pretty based) so he doesn't do it anymore.
Vytaan who seems to be quite a nice guy but he's not massively popular.
Who the fuck else? There's a bunch of two views doing it too I guess.

It's been a little while, but it's still October, so here's something spooky. This wad doesn't seem very popular despite being high effort, so there are no demos for this map on the archive. That's to say, you can have an easy world record if you beat my time. Sprite replacements are numerous but enemies/weapons behave mostly like normal. Beware however, that barons now shoots rockets.

A bunch of the more normie ones do, the ones who think the height of modding is slapping a bunch of PBR textures and bodycam filters on Project Brutality.

you don't even need testers to do shit as simple as "make it so that other players who lagged behind/respawned can get into a room when you put bars up or made the door one-way or whatever"
>>
>>12885787
Swing and a miss.
>>
>>12885787
No, actually, in most cases you just need to apply basic deductive reasoning.

If I slam the door shut behind the player and lock him in, is it then possible for potential co-op players to follow on after him, or do they get locked out? If the answer is no, then typically that's a straightforward fix which won't be noticed in single-player.
I don't even balance my maps for co-op at all, but I do THAT much.

I kinda buy that post an anon made a long time ago that he was burnt out and purposefully escalated once the AI code was discovered as an excuse to retire.
I wouldn't say duplicity is his strong suit, I've seen him samefag on DW, but he's in his sixties, right? God, he'd have spent half his life on this fucking game.
>>
>>12885886
Graf was in his mid-30s when he first made the GZ fork back 2005, so yeah he's in his 50s now.
>>
>>12885886
I guess it's not impossible, he's been doing it for ages, plus a lot of those people seem like they'd be insufferable to work with for longer periods.
Not gonna say I believe it fully, because Graf is also arrogant and stubborn enough to actually do that kind of fuckup for real, but it feels plausible enough.

>>12885894
He's been at it for ages, he was like 18 when Doom first came out, and he said he thought it was the most amazing videogame he had ever seen in his life, remaining his favorite ever since. Was the GzDoom fork his first contribution, or did he make other contributions to ZDoom before that? I feel like maybe he did.
>>
>>12885902
Yeah, he very much got his start programming for the original ZDoom project before making the GZ fork.
>>
>>12885927

Captain Obvious, when did you get here?!
>>
>>12885894
I always assume Doom modders and coders to be in their 20s or 30s, so remembering there are some guys in this community reaching literal grandpa ages is kind of nuts.
But then again this would be the most fitting game to have guys that age around.
>>
File: IMG_4868.jpg (349 KB, 1536x2049)
349 KB JPG
>>12886052
The game is 33 years old and people already got cracking on trying to mod it within like, a week or so, there's been extensive time for people to get into modding.

Two guys of the original TeamTNT have even died of old age, Ty Halderman and Drake O'Brien. One stayed semi-active in the community to the end, and the other, presumably after a brief dabble with videogame stuff in the 1990s, went back to blowing glass, making lamps and decorative windows for a living.

Hell, there's already been father-son situations, a Mr. Fares mapping some in the 1990s, and then his son later took a crack at it, doing continuations on his dad's old works.
>>
>>12886071
Dr Sleep's son made few maps trying to imitate his father's style.
>>
>>12886113
He didn't do too bad either. While he made some tribute's to his father's old design inclinations, he still very much did his own thing.
>>
>>12885886
I can't say I buy that, it's not as bad as the fanfiction some /v/ anons have written about him being a master manipulator getting all the unwanted developers to leave of their own accord, but it really doesn't line up with his patterns of behaviour.
>>12885902
Those types usually are terrible to worth with but they get the job done more or less so they often get some leeway in the workplace.
>or did he make other contributions to ZDoom before that?
Significantly helped on ZDoom in it's later years and when he pulled the "there you have it, no more gzdoom" thing, also did some mapping.
>>12885949
>>12885986
Those kinds of credits can be all the fuck over the place, I've got some games listing me for all kinds of positions I've never occupied in the vidya industry, all because I did a bit of testing for them in my spare time.
>>
>>12886071
>Hell, there's already been father-son situations
There already was in the games being made, Don Ivan Punchatz and Gregor Punchatz both worked on stuff for id.
>>
I wish I could've done more creative collaborations with my father. Problem has always been he and I are like chalk and cheese when it comes to our interests. The closest we really got to that sort of thing was back when I was in animation school and I did a stop-motion project using various tools from his shed; and I had him be my assistant animator.

Hey anons, getting ready to update Phobos Delta to v2.
It'll take a little longer than I'm comfortable to get the powersuit done, even though Sableblind's OP gave me something to get started. Unfortunately it also may brick multiplayer and I know from these threads that at least one anon intended to play it co-op, so the powersuit will come later as an add-on so I might as well take my time.
The current invuln replacement now also gives you a stupid strong armor, so at least you get more use out of leftover invulns or invulns you couldn't quite make good use of because of the lower player speed or whatever.
I'll post everything when I'm able for a last test/bugcatching/what the fuck did I do wrong now before release.

Yeah, it's just good mapping practice to remember to put a nearby switch to teleport in if you do a one-way door. You don't find it normally unless you're randomly spamming interact around the map, or I guess if you accidentally lead a monster up to it.

so i uninstalled relighted because i was having too many problems in doom 2 where it was way too dark or the textures were even just solid black. i'm not sure what went wrong but since i upgraded to uzdoom the mod has a lot of weird bugs, so that's too bad

so what i did instead is jack up the saturation and contrast. i always played quake multiplayer where you actually want to see and the lol it's dark vibe of doom was getting stale

what do you guys think of the new color balance? is it too easy too see now? i like the saturation increase because it reminds me of CRTs

bad news is because i unistalled the graphics mod i've bricked all my saves and i'm gonna have to start like 5 wads over. oh well. i'm thinking of restarting TNT on -fast again now that i've realized the game gets a lot easier after map02
>>
>>12887674
doom coop is only something i've ever done with friends, not pubs

one of the reasons is the game is very ping sensitive so you have to find players in your local area (same reason quake's dead)

but i imagine there are plenty of people playing coop with their high school buddies on their switches or whatever compared to source ports
>>
>>12887773
Doom co-op is only fun if nobody or everybody knows the maps.
>>
>>12887775
that's why when i was in college when we played doom coop we used oblige and set it to be completely impossible by the 8-10th map

>>
>>12887674
Yeah, and it's been like that for a while too.
Mainly because not whole lot knows about it, and when even they get to it, all they see is people playing nothing but megaman, and some lone chinks fighting 32 bots all by himself. Second reason being zandronum is fucking ass in all ways imaginable for A) still stuck in acs/decorate B) still no mbf21 support, which kills co-op playing (it was friendly to setup a co-op session, but it's very limited to maps), and with new uzdoom multiplayer support, its better to go there for actual co-op.
As for multiplayer based mods, not whole left active nor people to play it, sometimes people gather to play, like zombie horde or floppy mod or else, but there is no new people, only old faces

>>12887878
It's kind of a total overhaul, but on the outside it mostly works the same as it has before, just more smoothly and with a GUI for starting/joining multiplayer in the built-in launcher. The really big upgrade is that latency doesn't scale with player count anymore, each player only feels their own latency to the host and the host experience is almost indistinguishable from singleplayer. There's still work to be done but it's definitely possible for it to become a viable multiplayer port in the near future, more likely than Zandronum is to even figure out what they want to do anymore.
>>
>>12887674
It's alive enough for me. I either play Chocolate/Crispy/Woof or Odamex. Woof's got a new a new netcode few days ago, it's buggy enough to use for now but. But yeah, you need to find people to play on discords and be ready to self-host.

>>12887775
Exploration can also be fun but you need good communication, ideally voice chat. And not to be afraid to lower the difficulty to hmp sometimes because some maps easily turn into infinite respawn->pick up all the the ys->shoot a BFG once->die->repeat loop (assuming vanilla rules with no ammo respawn). If playing UV Max I agree, you need to both know the map well. I always wanted to try MP speedrunning but I can't find anyone with enough time.

Public Doom co-op is kind of shit. My memories of the constant Plutonia and TNT servers on ZDaemon 20 years ago is that either a bunch of random noobs struggle to make any headway, or some burgeoning speedrunner comes in and fucking b-lines it to the exit while everyone else tries to fight, and the carnage is interrupted prematurely.

Very unsatisfying.

even as someone who barely plays anything but co-op games with bros outside of retro shooters I still can't imagine playing Doom/Quake in co-op. Even if you ignore the fact that absolute majority of the community maps is plain not designed with co-op in mind at-fucking-all, the maps that """can""" be played in co-op would still feel like shit.
It's you-vs-the-world genre, kill-or-be-killed genre, yin-and-yang genre, spotlight-ballet-choreography-combat genre, overcome-everything-or-die-trying genre, the nanosecond you add another player to the equation the whole 30 years old status quo will fall apart into an incomprehensible mess that will make I-put-beautiful-Skate-into-Minecraft feel like a prime Tim Stellmach directed gameplay.

Felt like adding a sort of easter egg weapon to the next Phobos Delta update.
It's a carbine that uses the same ammo as the regular rifle, but deals considerably lower damage and holds less ammo. On the upside: it doesn't alert monsters.
It really exists so you can be sneaky and that's about it.

NTA, but this year I played through Vogel im Käfig, 32 Inch Nails, and No Time 2 Freeze, and on the whole Russian wads have been fun to play and felt ambitious.
There are definitely conventions that Western wad authors feel obligated to follow in order to be 'taken seriously', and at the very least experiencing a different region's style guide can change the atmosphere of Doom.

>>

Tweaking the saturation a little is one of the ways I've found to enhance Doom's visuals. I guess it also has a big practical sense when you play with the small screen.

>>12889145
>/vr/ authors
I couldn't let go and progress further after I reached MAP32 of 512 Linedefs. That was some art-transcending shit there, replayed it over a dozen of times and stopped touching Doom for years. I still fight memories of it, knowing that there's nothing better, else I would abandon Doom once again and won't recover.
>>

Ok, I'm aware of the board rules and software cut off date but I wasn't sure if it would be a faux paus to discuss something that's so similar to modern FPS games.
>>
>>12889191
the small screen doesn't get to me. i have a lot of health problems but my eyes are good. i actually just realized something else that's been seriously fucking me over - if you set m_sensitivity_y to 0 it's way less reliable than if you disable vertical mouselook in the zdoom settings. didn't realize how badly i was fucking myself over until i was dicking around on map30 today and it's like wow my autoaim actually works
>>
>>12889194
>but I wasn't sure if it would be a faux paus to discuss something that's so similar to modern FPS games.
So long as you're not bringing up faux-retro crap that's usually running on Unity or some shit you're probably fine.

Anything in an old engine like Rekkr or Hedon or Ion Maiden is cool though.
>>
>>12889162
>how does it look?
Doomguy looks like he has jaundice
I've always found that increasing saturation makes things look weird in pretty much all games
Tweaking gamma is a better way to make colors a bit less washed out without looking too weird, with the only downside being that it makes things darker
>>
>>12889214
well i increased the gamma quite a bit from default so i increased the saturation to avoid the washed out color effect (exact opposite effect you discussed)

i have my phone brightness pretty low but when i play doom it's a blinding max brightness led screen so maybe it's my phone's screen doesn't have good color saturation
>>
>>12889221
>exact opposite effect you discussed
Because you increased the gamma instead of lowering it

Ahh, we're back. I've been busy tweaking Hellbabe.

I figured how to make footstep noises change based on inventory items so I can have metal stompy noises play when using the mech or power loader, and prevent them when kicking or using the bike. Also switched kicking over to Zoom and put throwing grenades on altfire for most weapons, so I figured a grenade indicator would be helpful.
>>
Also made the kill ability usable without the timer, but it takes twice as long to charge up, along with a cvar for an alternate mode that gives berserk and double firing speed instead. The fact that this basically makes her Stone-lite was an accident.
>>
I've just been learning Zscript using DavidXNewton's tutorial to try making my own squadmates with abilities + cooldowns - then eventually make custom enemies with protections + abilities too. I don't think I could do this in decorate/acs and have the ability to quickly control two of them with mouse + context sensitive keyboard commands but those are much much easier to use for making custom enemies.
>>
What's a good slaughterish map/mapset to test companions on that isn't Nuts? Something where I could get a feel for how many enemies I could have fighting/infighting without the FPS dipping below 60 whilst having two squadmates following my orders? oh man, i'm late to the party on lvlworld

guess i'm not playing much doom for a while. i figured out how to get weaponstay working in cpma and now ffa with the bots is legit

i've been trying to define a custom gametype though and for some reason ai slop is just hallucinating how to do it, and i can't find a good guide on how to do it either. i want to rework the MG by making it a lower ROF that does more damage so you don't run out of ammo in 2 seconds off spawn. if anyone knows how to set this up or can point me towards a tutorial it would help a lot
>>
>>12889997
Are any of these custom Quake 3 maps actually played, ever?
I mean, I've been seeing screenshots of all sorts of beautiful Quake 3 maps that people have made for years, but every time I boot up the game and find a server with actual players it's the same fucking vanilla shit over and over again.
>>
>>12890004
only in quakeworld did people ever man up and play new/experimental maps. i miss the mid '00s there were so many cool maps i don't even remember half their names, but some of them were old ass maps made in the 90s that were undiscovered gems, and a few of them were actually made by friends from irc, so i was really happy that i was able to play people on these maps i used to play bots with all the time

quake live has a lot of new clan arena maps since the game went to the community, but they're all remixes of other maps mostly

i've basically come full circle to when i was 15 years old where i spend tons of time looking for custom maps and just play bots cause no one else wants to. at least the cpma bots can beat me without feeling overly cheap like nightmare xaero. i hear there are some really strong qw bots but i haven't messed with it
>>
>>12890010
I blame autistic compfags and the fact that Quake 3 catered to them pretty much exclusively.
All the people who just wanted whacky fun shooter gameplay and were willing to try any new map that facilitated that either stayed with Quake 1/2 or went to Unreal Tournament.
>>
>>12890015
actually autistic compfags in quakeworld were the ones pushing new maps cause they were really heavy on necessary trickjumps to get anywhere

i'm an autistic compfag that got old and sucks now (can't time items or aim hitscan for shit though apparently my rockets are still fine) please show some respect

also preacher and ztn used to be my friends so i'm glad their maps got driven into the ground. a good map is a good map and will work well in any fps game

i blame the death of arena fps on people like you who need to "experiment" or "just want to have fun" ie shit up pub matches and get callvote kicked. kids these days just want to play carebare fps and not games of skill, so i don't think the genre is gonna see a resurgence in my lifetime, but i think eventually people will realize quake is not just a game, it's a sport, kinda like how chess keeps making comebacks over the millenia
>>
>>12889642
>>Not a sequel to SS2.
They seem to be entirely cutting that out of canon, given the talk about "the story finally moves forward" and "one last showdown with Mental".
>>
>>12890023
>but i think eventually people will realize quake is not just a game, it's a sport, kinda like how chess keeps making comebacks over the millenia
That’s a strange equivalence since I’m under the impression that Chess is still heavily played across the globe. I’d be surprised if the ‘daily’ players from Quakelive, Q3 and Champions combined reaches over a thousand players, or even five hundred.
>>
>>12890078
>I’d be surprised if the ‘daily’ players from Quakelive, Q3 and Champions combined reaches over a thousand players, or even five hundred.
30-day average on Steam Charts gives 494 for QC, QL, Q3, and Q3TA. Include all the people not playing Steam copies of the older games and it should be over 500 comfortably.
QL is still the most-played Quake game on Steam, Q1 and Q2 have dropped right back off. https://steamcharts.com/search/?q=quake
>>
>>12890078
Yeah, Chess never really went anywhere. Quake was probably more popular than Chess at its height, but these days I'm sure Chess sees more daily play, professional or not, than all Quake play combined.
>>
>>12890078
yeah, chess is experiencing a resurgence. it happens every few hundred years or so. the game started gaining huge numbers during covid and hasn't fallen off yet. chess was also extremely popular in the 1960s and also in the mid 1800s when steam boats were invented

i think either one of two things need to happen - quake 3 has to hit the public domain completely and then suddenly openarena will be useful, and/or a new quake multiplayer from id software comes out that has proper tutorials and game modes and settings out of the box. like one thing modern quake can do is ride that battle royale shit but do it the quake way with 100 player deathmatch in the style of sewer64/base64 or the silly fuckhuge clan arena maps they use now and none of that random loot garbage. maybe let you select a zone of 5-6 spawn points to spawn in instead of do dropping garbage. clan arena works well in 15v15 and i think it could go even bigger with good maps

you need to get new players into noob modes like ffa and ca and instagib before they can start playing the pro modes like duel ctf and tdm and that's how quake champions fucked it up for everyone
>>
>>12890097
I can't imagine any time where Chess has been easily available to the public and where it hasn't had at least a constant low buzz presence with the nerds of the world, it's ingrained in culture, easy to understand and play (while having a retardedly high skill ceiling if you really want to take it there), and in this digital world, it's an easy public domain game to make and put on any device for cheap/free.
Basic but mildly entertaining staple.
>>
>>12890103
quake is actually a really simple game

i would say the complexity of the weapons and items is about as difficult to understand as chess rules on piece movement and checkmate/stalemate, and strafe jumping is probably as complicated as like castling and en passant, but the tactics, strategy, and mechanics behind quake are really something else

most of getting into quake is the physical act of learning to play, improving aim and movement. the thing about the game is a very small skill differential results in assrape and that turns off casuals who just want partipication trophies or something

i decided to play an aerowalk duel before i went to sleep and got my ass beat but i had a good time. the best i was doing i was only down 3 frags but i had to get aggressive when the clock was running out and it didn't work. i don't think anarki got a SINGLE ra unless he spawned on it so my control was good but my aim was poor

What manner of mental disorder is this?
>>
>>12890175
clearly you never played tdm before it requires intense comms, sharing resources, and feeding your best player the quad and all the major items so he can backpack you. it's normally only played in pickups not pub servers. i tried to run a quake live tdm server back in the '10s and it was just a flash in the plan, only lasted about 3 months before the novelty wore off. there really aren't enough weapons to go around for most people.

instagib is for brainless third worlders, always has been

ca is probably the least noob of the noob modes but even diehard ca players admit duels take more skill

what manner of scrub disorder do you have? i don't know what glickos are like now and i can't play well anymore but before i quit i was 1500 rated CA and people were afraid of me when i joined, got gangbanged a lot. even i admit CA is the noob mode
>>
but let me clarify one thing. CA is a NECESSARY noob mode and id software's refusal to include it in quake 4 and quake champions because they just figured if it wasn't there people would play other modes was stupid. CA is a really good intro mode to arena fps, most people never graduate past it (because most people are really bad) and that's totally fine

i used to duel when i was in my 20s, in my 30s i switched to clan arena because the scene was dying, and now in my 40s i really suck and just play ffa bots

i wish one of those studios trying to reboot fps would focus on clan arena as the core gamemode to balance around and have the other modes like duel and ctf be the afterthoughts instead. tdm, i'm not sure how to fix it without giving you armor or a strong gun off spawn, most people will never drop you a shotty when you really need it unless they know you and know you won't just giftwrap it to the other team

hey guys, i decided to make my cpm botmatches a little more interesting and add a diverse range of skill levels to the bots to replicate the pubstomping while getting pubstomped yourself experience

i made a checkbox strawpoll. the top 7 will be the bots i use ranked by skill in order how many votes they get. whoever gets 1st place is gonna be 100 skill bot and whoever gets 7th will be like 30-40 (i'll have to tinker with the range)

https://strawpoll.com/B2ZB9k5KAgJ

i don't remember the weapon preferences of the bots beyond xaero being a rail whore so i figure i'll just leave it to this thread to decide what bots i fight

my goal is to play an ffa on every single cpm map (i think there's about 30) then start playing lesser known maps from lvlworld that can handle 8 player ffa

thanks for voting in my poll

It wasn't about Arena FPS, every single shooter had to ape COD at the time.
And RTS died because retards saw SC2 and MOBAs (neither of which got anything to do with consoles) and decided that it's the only way forward, when people just wanted a good single player.
>>

Yeah, arena shooters suffer the most because of the kind of people they attract. I liked playing TDM on Q3 well over 17 years ago, at some point people stopped playing the game and began optimizing strategies.

>Your attempt at trivialising someone's complaints about actually shit game mechanics just makes YOU look like the retard.
Common internet tactic. That and I feel like it happens often with stupid people with the mindset of "It never happened to me, so it's not actually a problem."

I was once a witness to some random zoomie's twitch stream where he spent minutes bitching how id software were too stupid to know what they were doing, and then kept asking how to enable the freelook. He couldn't physically bring himself to press the mouse button, game was too awkward and archaic. Modern kids are too fussy and see problems in everything.
>>
>>12891661
I don't really get that problem very often at all, I'm just in tune with the auto-aim at this point. I don't say that as a big time purist, either, probably 75% of all my Dooming in my lifetime has been with GzDoom, freelook, and mods.
It's just a matter of getting a feel for it, both are as natural as breathing to me.

>>12891671
Not any of these people, but:
>"It never happened to me, so it's not actually a problem."
Or maybe you struggle with some of that at first, but you just get used to it so it feels natural.
Like, the one thing where I really see these limits being too annoying is if you're dealing a lot of flying enemies waaay up in the sky in a large open arena (and cacos bite fucking hard, lemme tell ya), in which case, yeah, that'd be annoying because then you can't even let auto-aim help you, but personally, few maps I play are like that.
>>
>>12891684
Eat shit. I've been playing since the 90s and find those things a slight annoyance.

>>
>>12891732

>>
>>12891706
For me, lack of freelook and infinitely tall monsters tend to combine into a very cool
>there's a gangrape awaiting you at the bottom of a dropdown that you can't do anything about outside of praying that monsters somehow leave
situation quite frequently
>>
>>12891680

>>12891735
I suppose that one happens at times, though I'd blame the level design for that.
>>
>>12891706
>if you're dealing a lot of flying enemies waaay up in the sky
Very few mappers are talented enough to handle verticality in general. What you're describing makes me think of cushy amateurs who are unable take any bit of criticism. You shouldn't use ceilings much higher than 256 for a serviceable map, and especially not place flying enemies where your eyes can't see. Skulls and demons descend into your field of view on their own, unless the mapper actively prevents them.
>>
>>12891742
>You shouldn't use ceilings much higher than 256 for a serviceable map
Unless you're dealing with letting loose a lot of flying enemies from up high, this reallty isn't a problem. For ground enemies, extra tall ceilings don't mean anything at all.
>>
>>12891680
Hey I liked that level of going down
>>
>>12891680
I think you should learn to aim better. If it's close and you can see it, then you can hit it.
>>
It's a good thing we have freelook and can play the game how you want so we don't have to complain about how the game was originally designed anymore.
>>

Here's a quick mockup I did based on your image. You can put cylinders or spheres where the bevels are on each edge, then CTRL+J to merge them to create convex beveled shapes without a million polygons.
>>12892612
It's not a graphics setting issue. I'm not talking about how *smooth* the curves look.
The curves themselves simply do not produce good approximations of actual circles, only beveled squares.
Apply a subdivision modifier to a cube in Blender and you'll understand. The method of curving is the same.

I think what gets conflicting for some is the desire to play with freelook + no autoaim while also wanting to experience encounters that were designed with autoaim + no freelook. I can go back and forth between vanilla or severely modded gameplay so its whatever I feel like.

It could make it much easier to handle pain elementals directly since there wouldn’t be any “walls” of enemies absorbing your autoaim, makes it much easier to chaingun-stun them to death.

Catbox purges stuff which hasn't been accessed in at least 2 years, which is for their own good at this point, the internet, unfortunately, has changed some since their inception. That's more than enough for sharing, however.

im going to assemble a new dooming pc all because Pirate Doom 2 map 8 "trezer dig" has a spot on the map where you can see ~25,500 linedefs, ~23,700 vertices, and ~1,500 sectors all at once, and at 720p Nugget chugs to a staggering 45fps. dammit all. GzDoom/UzDoom has had multithreading for everything but game logic for ages. Game logic is still based in original Doom's game logic, hence single threading, and that's been a performance bottleneck all this time.

This could be rewritten for multithreading, but that's gonna be a LOT of work, trying to retain proper compat with most of 25 years of ZDoom content like it already does will be a pain.

>>
>>12892787
Consistently shit, melee struggles to connect to really big hitboxes like that. You kinda can just only wiggle left and right while attacking and hope it'll connect.
There's options for improved hit detection in DSDA, Woof, Nugget, etc, which mimics GzDoom's, and that fixes it, makes melee very smooth, but it's not supported by any complevel, so no demos.

I'm so happy woof nugget got multicore support. It slapped a smile on my face the moment I woke up this morning.
>>
>>12893908
I swear, the moment they finally implement png brightmaps it Nugget will be the best source port ever.
>>
>>12893918
Am I retarded? Didn't Nugget already have a brightmap format?
>>
>>12893923
Woof has it's own brightmaps format, which is kinda limited compared to ZDoom implementation. Basically all it can do is replace color X with color Y for this specific thing. You can't replace the color of specific pixels (two pixels might share the color but you only want one of them to be bright), you can't add bright colors only to a single sprite if the thing uses multiple sprites (like a health bonus has multiple sprites "looped" one after another to create the animation illusion). Meanwhile ZDoom png format can do all of this, and some extra stuff.
The pull request was opened in 2024, and they could only do sprite brightmaps, i.e. not wall textures. Just checked, and it's been dead for two years, basically no activity since it was opened.
>>
>>12893937
>replace color X with color Y
I meant always make color X fullbright.

>Woof Changelog.md: "Add support for comp_thingsectorlight, in preparation for revision 1.5 of the MBF21 spec."
They're updating MBF21? I thought they were working on a completely new spec?
>>
>>12893987
I guess it could just be a new update to fix some issues MBF21 has and add a few functions from the new spec to it? It's the first I hear of this myself and I'm pretty sure MBF2Y would just be a further development of MBF21.
>>
>>12893987
Might be necessary compat tweaks or something.

>>12894051
MBF2y will allow UDMF map support and use Decorate (rather than build even more on DeHacked), so I'm not sure it's building all that much on MBF21 directly. Probably why it's taking a lot of time.
