Real Castlevania > fake Castlevania (the twink/femboy ones that on top of being faggy, are easy/casual bait)
    >>
    >>12883709
    It's for us trannies chud
    >>
Does Castlevania have the worst fanbase in all of retro gaming?
    >>
    >>12883709
I prefer the old style as well. Don't get me wrong, I love anime, but I don't want that in my gothic horror video game. I want the Golden Ax Boris Vallejo look.
    >>
    >>12884060
Nah, as a popular game with different eras it can be bad as any but I wouldn't say it's as bad as certain Capcom and Nintendo ips, namely Mega Man, Street Fighter, Mario, and Zelda

I'm surprised this is not a more standard opinion among purists, the igavanias drastically altered the formula, casualizing it and stripping the series of most of it's challenge. I still think the games are good for what they are, but it's a completely different style of game. It doesn't serve as a replacement imo. I wish they kept the classic formula alive in the form of a sub-series or something. At least a simple retelling of Simon's story every few years would suffice.
    >>
    >>12885103
All of the highest praised classic CV games are easy though, except for 3. CV4, Rondo, Bloodlines, not that hard.
    >>
    >>12885129
Yeah, the games are not particularly hard, in the same vein as a shmup or a beat em up for example, but most of it's challenge comes from memorization, learning enemy patterns and taking advantage of subweapons, (specially if you want to beat them in one go instead of "credit feeding") which was the appeal of the classic games. It's not only about raw difficulty, if that was the issue you could take any igavania and attempt a no hit run and it would be a lot harder. It's more about how they changed the structure and shifting the focus on exploration and rpg mechanics.
    >>
Real fans play both and don't behave like retarded children.
    >>
    >>12884835
I get that, but I find Kojima's art to fit Castlevania so well.
    >>
    >>12885129
idk how you can compare bloodlines' difficulty to fucking sotn
    >>
    >>12885187
    >Real fans eat shit and don't have opinions
    That's called being a cuck/drone not a fan
    >>
    >>12884060
    No, that’s smash stinkies
    >>
    >>12885129
none of them are easy in the sense of igivanias, maybe the first half of IV. they're designed in such a way for you to meet periodic brick walls that you need to grind through(or in the case of bloodlines being a limited continue arcade game). the pacing of challenge in the metroidvanias is way more broad, you're expected to die maybe a handful of times in a playthrough.
    >>
    >game universally agreed upon as being difficult
    >/vr/: EHRM THESE GAMES ARE NOT ACTCHULLY HARD *Pushes up glasses* I CAN 1CC EVERY GAME IN THE SERIES WITH MY EYES CLOSED AND MY HANDS TIED BEHIND MY BACK THEREFORE THESE GAMES ARENT HARD
    >>
    >>12885762
Yeah I don't know why but Castlevania is one of the those series where people really like having a dick measuring contest over how hard their favorite is. CV1 and CV4 are my favorites and both probably rank on the lower end of difficulty across classicvanias, I don't care if they're "too easy" because fining them fully never disappoints me regardless.
    >>
    >>12885686
You game over in Bloodlines maybe 2 or 3 times max if you're not shit at games, and most of your deaths are probably going to be in that annoying stage with the mirror effects.

what a weird way to find out you're gay, but that's cool for you I guess. It looks like a big man wearing make up to appear more feminine, which I guess you like. So, there ya go.

I like the Harrison Ford/Arnold combo.
    >>
    >>12886040
The face is specifically, a woman's face, that's the weird thing
    >>
I’m so confused are you calling Castlevania 4 gay or real? Are those the only two options? Because it’s worse than what I would think of as the gay anime ones and definitely worse than the real ones. Or are you being deliberately confusing? It doesn’t have the anime thing yet, but it’s way too easy and pretty gay and definitely casual bait. I’d rather play Bloodlines which feels like Castlevania or Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night where it had Castlevania 2 influence and basically turned into Metroid with leveling up. You even get to play as a protagonist from real Castlevania in SOTN. The game boy games carried this on ok. Even if the character art is a little anime styled.

But if you’re pretending Castlevania 4 is “real Castlevania” that is the twinkiest femboy faggy thing you could do. Castlevania 3 is real Castlevania and shits on Super Castlevania Bros. 4. The best things about 4 is the music and a few mode 7 gimmicks if that’s your thing. It’s better than the N64 clusterfuck I guess.
    >>
    >>12885103
Yeah I'm surprised that during xbox live arcade/wiiware days there were not more classicvania like adventure rebirth
    >>
    >>12887149
    It's very simple.

Real Castlevania is the action platformers that appeal to men. The other ones that rip off Super Metroid and appeal to fags are gay
    >>
I played Symphony of the Night and enjoyed it, was that considered a faggy one? The main character did seem to dress like a homo. I haven't played a Castlevania game since.

    >>12884060
    probably valve
    >>
    >>12887875
Ok how about Castlevania 2 on NES? The one with all the backtracking, where you gain new abilities and find or buy items to progress through locked areas? The one with the rpg style leveling system? The one where you talk to npcs and visit towns and shops? The one released in 1986/1987 about 7 years before Super Metroid? Is that a faggy Super Metroid ripoff?

Simons Quest made me feel like a man when playing it. Arbitrary hints, vague clues, too much time shopping, no idea what the game actually wants me to do, it was just like dating a woman.

I did not know that Simon is considered a dhampir in this one but that is what the wiki told me. It seems wrong to me that he would be one but eh still a great game.

I do agree with you OP. The Belmont's should all be true masculine men. Alucard and Soma could be twinks though since they are part vampire and vampires are faggy twinks often enough in media. A Belmont should be high test and never a bitch figuratively and literally.

Original Castlevania was inspired by old western horror movies.
Nuvania was inspired by Vampire Hunter D and eventually shonen manga.

    >Original Castlevania was inspired by old western horror movies.
    >Nuvania was inspired by Vampire Hunter D and eventually shonen manga.

Except the game that took the most inspiration from Vampire Hunter D *is* the first Castlevania, and the movie had just came out 2 years prior.
The entire concept of Dracula not "just" being a vampire but the lord of all demons is from VHD; including having all kinds of different monsters as minions and the entire throne room trope.
Fighting with a whip comes from VHD.
Half the game follows beat by beat the progression of the movie once the protag enters the castle. First there is a corridor with zombies and a feline monster. Then the protag falls into a floor pit trap and ends up in the watery catacombs. Then he fights Medusa.
Even Simon's clothes are reminiscent of the vampire fighting girl from the movie (the one who uses a whip).

CV2 made it even more obvious by copy/pasting Dracula's appearance with the long coat.

Castlevania = Ghost'n Goblins gameplay + VHD story + western horror movies theming (+ a bit of Lupin for the clock tower)
and then the marketing focused on the western horror movies to avoid lawsuits and they claimed "the whip comes from Indiana Jones, it totally doesn't come from the very successful horror story made famous 2 years prior in which a vampire hunter uses a whip and fights a vampire that is actually not just a vampire by the lord of all demons like in our story, no sir, nope, never heard of it actually"
    >>
I like them both. The linear action games are for when you want a little challenge, the exploration games are for relaxing and getting boners from the death noises of female enemies.
    >>
I always thought it was interesting how many Japanese games had "Westernized" box art when localized to the US. I really miss the Frank Frazetta-inspired fantasy vibe.
