Then you download it and it's a big mix of most of these:
    >throws in mega evolutions, usually in some clunky way or outright making them into level-based evolutions
    >Meowscarada + Mega Meowscarada (Bonus: MM is either a cool rogue with a fucked up mask, or a waifu.)
    >throws in fan Pokemon as well as megas of a few, or X/Y alts of existing ones
    >adds an OP self-insert as the hardest trainer, with perfect IVs and comp strats and all
    >changes typings to "fix" some Pokemon as well, like Luxray to Dark/Electric or some shit like that
    >changes type matchups for "balance"
    >makes all Pokemon, wild or not, use comp strategies and held items
    >adds move relearners/tutors in every Pokemon Center

    >leaves in all the debug shit, letting people cheat at will so half the bug reports are from people that fucked their saves or have Pokemon that do 99999999999 damage

Hi /veepee/, introducing Pokemon Haemorrhoid Red and Gatorade Blue!
These are new ROMhacks set in the Kanto region of generation 3, and boast the following features:
    >all 1000+ pokemon crammed into a region designed for 150, meaning that every route has encounter tables so diluted that every mon you want is 5% tops
    >"Quality of life" features like nature mints and free vitamins
    >harder trainer battles with better AI that require "better strategy"
    >what this actually means is that every individual fight just becomes a smogon wannabe calc-fest as you have to build teams for every trainer, and every bit of fun is sapped out of the game!
    >no actual quality of life changes like early fly or faster surfing, just the above bullshit im passing off as quality of life
    >literally any original dialogue will just be utter dogshit. like, invariably
    >one (1), that's right, one (1) new area! and it's just ripped from the hoenn games and slightly reskinned!
    >steven stone probably shows up to give you yet another battle to smogon over
    >rare candies are available! grinding is an important part of nuzlockes where you need to play carefully in the early games to avoid losing mons, so we can sidestep this issue for all you pro nuzlockers by removing that risk and turning all your pokemon into soulless assets that spend 90% of the time in the box
    >don't forget the regular balance patches nerfing shit into the ground whenever i get salty about someone beating my game!
if you guys could spread this around, id really be grateful. if we can get Jan or Wolfy's eyes on this, that'd mean the world to me. i dont give a single fuck about creating a game i can be proud of, as is evident from my work, i just want twitch clout, so if you guys could help with that, itd mean the world to me

    >all 1000+ pokemon crammed into a region designed for 150, meaning that every route has encounter tables so diluted that every mon you want is 5% tops
Kanto has so many repeats of shitmons on all of its routes that this is an improvement.
    >"Quality of life" features like nature mints and free vitamins
Unironically good, fuck grinding, fuck EV training, fuck having to catch 300000 of one pokemon just to get the nature and ability you want.
    >harder trainer battles with better AI that require "better strategy"
    Translation: The AI cheats.
    >no actual quality of life changes like early fly or faster surfing, just the above bullshit im passing off as quality of life
This is usually not true, usually HMs are not required to be taught or replaced with key items, which is a good change.
    >literally any original dialogue will just be utter dogshit. like, invariably
    Yeah probably.
    >one (1), that's right, one (1) new area! and it's just ripped from the hoenn games and slightly reskinned!
Yeah, probably, but fuck faggots who want to redesign kanto.
    >steven stone probably shows up to give you yet another battle to smogon over
    Literally have never seen this.
    >rare candies are available!
Good, fuck grinding, grinding is shit and a waste of time, and these hacks add level caps if they give this option anyway.
    >don't forget the regular balance patches nerfing shit into the ground whenever i get salty about someone beating my game!
    Literally have never seen this.
    >>
    >gen 3 romhack has a simple gimmick
    >romhacker for some reason adds 700 more pokemon and a bunch of unnecessary modern features, which have nothing to do with said gimmick and adds nothing substantial to the game
    >>
    >>59695347
    >>all 1000+ pokemon crammed into a region designed for 150, meaning that every route has encounter tables so diluted that every mon you want is 5% tops
This. The last romhack I played basically tripled the dex, and trying to catch more than one copy of a Pokemon I like was awful.

    >>59695329
If I ever made a romhack and I wasn't mentally fried from spending half my adult life caretaking for the elderly, I think I'd be 50/50 between two ideas.

A: Generic stuff in a made-up region, handpicked dex, evil team, elite 4, etc. No megas because there aren't enough of them and I don't want fan megas. No rebalancing unless I'm particularly mad at RNGesus during testing.

    B: Completely different:
    >you're running a company building an artificial island, and some legal-whatsits requires that you be there in person
    >you're NOT a Pokemon Trainer, so you're forced to pick a starter and go
    >starting out, you pick an island layout
    >progressing unlocks new segments you can place on the map permanently, each map having a slightly different grid
    >each segment is a "zone" to explore. Could be a mountain + dungeon, could be a forest, or a boring route, or a river, or whatever
    >travel between segment is done via fast travel map, even when the zones touch
    >plot is "finish the island"
There's several hardcoded "global events" as the game progresses:
    A. Flying type migration. Early game. Map gets swarmed by Flying types and you need to find all the Trainers and either join them in a double battle against some birdmons, or they're passed out and you have to send them off. Could end with an endless bird fight and a scripted loss?
    B. One of the evil teams (maybe an original one, IDFK) tries to colonize your island. Fight them, clear their hideouts, beat their admin, they leave.
    C. A natural disaster or two.
    D. Several scripted events about building towns, gyms, Pokemon Centers, the box system, etc.
    E. Endgame: legendaries fighting might destroy the island. Stop them.
    >>
    >>59693961
Unless you are actively trying to have the retro feel, adding the split is an upgrade.
    >>
    >>59694672
    >throws in mega evolutions, usually in some clunky way or outright making them into level-based evolutions
Megas are fine, but they need to be balanced properly. Putting stones of the weaker megas earlier on and stronger ones towards the endgame is a good idea.
    >adds an OP self-insert as the hardest trainer, with perfect IVs and comp strats and all
This will always be kino, although it should be an optional postgame thing.
    >changes typings to "fix" some Pokemon as well, like Luxray to Dark/Electric or some shit like that
Should always be a thing. Why would I want to play a romhack when all the pokemon are exactly the same as always?
    >>59695347
    >all 1000+ pokemon crammed into a region designed for 150, meaning that every route has encounter tables so diluted that every mon you want is 5% tops
Personally I like gens 1-3 with gen 4 cross-gen evos and Sylveon. Any more is way too much for a gen 3 hack imo
    >>
If I made a rom hack
    - It would have a darker story. But it wouldn't be Reddit edgy. Moreso, the edge actually serves a purpose
    - Difficulty harder than any official mainline game, except still easy enough to do with pretty much any team if you know what you're doing.
    - No ability, movepool, typing or stat changes
    - Only including gimmicks that make sense for the story
    - Dex of roughly 300, no more. Enough locations for all of them to be properly distributed.

I'd know those MASSIVE FUCKING TITTIES anywhere
    >>
    >>59695329
Adding dragon typing is just a pretty lame one since it was designed to be rare and uncommon. So much that what little world building they squeezed in was designated to dragon tamers being a big deal.

People in general also just like familiarity. Fucking with the typing will just invite scrutiny.

    >Short, sweaty man with rippling abs in a speedo
    >No response
    >The Amazon
    >"That one is kinda cool but we need to address the big titties in the room"

The artist even described in plain language "I like giving every character distinct silhouettes, which often leads to exaggeration" and the press responds was just like
    >Shit that makes too much sense, uhh - "Ah-huh. Suuuuuure.

    > >the story's been changed to be more "adult", and someone gets killed on-screen at some point
To be fair, that’s better writing that anything game freak has done
    > >changes typings to "fix" some Pokemon as well, like Luxray to Dark/Electric or some shit like that
Making monotypes have a slightly stronger STAB would prevent this obsession with adding type
    > >adds some weird change to Abilities, like giving each Pokemon like 20 to pick from, letting them have three at once, or both
This could work if the abilties were properly balanced around Pokemon having multiple of them.
    >leaves in all the debug shit, letting people cheat at will so half the bug reports are from people that fucked their saves or have Pokemon that do 99999999999
Still better security than game freak

    What do
    >>
Me personally, I fucking hate natures and abilities when there are multiple possible abilities a pokemon could have.
    >>
    >>59694672
    >>59696127
I've heard / been told Emerald is the easiest to work with, so that's why people often choose emerald.

For at least one example of some jank for gen 1 modding, if you want enemies to always use damaging instead of something like agility spam against your poison type, you have to make them the unused Bird type under the hood.
