It's completely up to interpretation why there are two ghosts there and it makes it more eerie. Sometimes an explanation makes things less interesting. Strange House has no intrigue, you know why there is a dead girl there.The problem with XY's ghost is that it implied there was a greater plot with her looking for someone specific. That was a mistake, but even so the scene created a lot of interest and fan theories.
