Anybody else have these contradicting feelings towards it?I love the progression through the region and beyond it into Kanto. The music and atmosphere build such an amazing vibe, especially with the day/night cycle. Mechanically it was also a straight upgrade from gen 1.BUT, the annoying fucking leveling curve and gyms, terrible biodevirsity and exp distribution, all the grinding...How do you guys feel about it? Remakes included.

>>59685876Really the only problem with Gold/Silver is the level curve, which is actually pretty fun if you choose to play around it. Last time I played through the game I ended up rotating between 8 or 10 Pokemon all thru Johto just to keep things interesting. Ended up replacing half of my Elite Four team while touring Kanto, as well. It's also better enjoyed if played in intervals of around an hour each day--G/S were designed around the daily events/battles--like an MMO.

Ampharos is your only realistic Electric option, and the pretty large number of stone evolutions that take up the dex are locked to post game. In fact, a lot of the good mons here are locked to the post game.Level Curve pre-Gen 5 has always been an issue, but wild Pokemon are insanely low. Adding new team members from the already incredibly small pool of feasible mons is made even harder.The Gym leaders also suck. Most don't have Johto mons as Aces, and some don't even use new mons at all, like Morty, Busy, and Falkner. Lance is also a lackluster champion, 3 Dragonite. Half of his team is weak to Electeic, think all but Aerodactyl weak to Rock, too.I don't know that I'd consider Johto the weakest games, I'd probably give it to X/Y, but they're certainly pretty low down.
