>Pokémon has people wandering the world to enslave wild and magical creatures so they can fight in painful blood sports. What's fun about that?
>>
>We often assume we have dominion over the animal kingdom. With our semi-automatics, atomic energy, and ballistic missiles, there’s no doubt that we’re the boss of the jungle. But how should we use our technological and intellectual superiority? Should we take, abuse, and exploit as much as possible? Luxuriate happily as the apex predator and kingpin? Or, as any good Spiderman fan might suggest, should we live by the maxim “ with great power, comes great responsibility”?
>>
>Nowhere is this question more salient than in the issue of animal blood sports — pitting creatures against one another in physical combat. It’s an act that treats animals as objects used only for human pleasure, rather than as useful resources or beings to protect. And, surprisingly, it’s one that’s introduced and celebrated in the seemingly harmless and cartoony world of Pokémon.

Not sure why you posted this. Yeah, it's dumb, but this talking point was already tired when PETA did their big marketing push back in ~2009. Same old story, same old song-and-dance.

are you testing a bot or something
don't fuck with me

>Pokémon is a universe where celebrated slavers wander the world trapping wild and magical creatures so they can drill them to fight in painful blood sports. These Pokémon, quite contented with their natural habitat, want nothing to do with “trainers,” and so they have to be lured by treats or threats. True, most trainers love and care for their Pokémon slaves, but their pets (?) still exist for the sole purpose of battling other creatures. Most wild Pokémon will avoid conflict and will only attack a human trainer out of fear.

no, i want to start a discussion
>>59682287
i don't think it's dumb

>These creatures are then trapped inside a tiny “Poké Ball” cage (with the notable exception of Ash’s Pikachu, which is allowed to roam free) until they are called upon for their master’s use. In some variations of Pokémon, unwanted or “inferior” creatures are transferred* out for “candy.” But mostly, these enslaved Pokémon are then drilled and conditioned to fight. It’s dog fighting, but with cute, kawaii animations.

People were STILL spouting this Pokémon is animal abuse things? ITT been established multiple times across various media that most Pokémon like to fight and the biggest honor for Pokemon is being powerful. They actively seek humans out to test strength and to find a trainer to help them get stronger. Keep in mind this is pokemo fresh from the wild doing this, so any argument about pokemon having their free will bred out doesn’t work. This isn’t to say every pokemon always want to fight, that’s all Pokemon do, and that abuse never happens. Any time a pokemon is forced to do something or abused it is treated as bad by the narrative. FFS BW specifically went over this over a decade ago

I will say that some aspects of the setting and how Pokémon are treated are suspicious of think about it. Like pokeballs, PC storage, people presumably slaughtering pokemon for meat since real animals don’t exist anymore apparently, how Pokemon can be bought and traded with no input from the Pokemon (though apparently its suddenly wrong when Kieran wants to prove himself to the ogre because reasons). But overall the general premise is Pokemon are basically vikings in vahalla but if they were animals/robots/ghosts/constructs/mythological creatures/etc and humans are coaches.

>Pokemon like to fight
>now snatch this being from it’s home and collect these badges to mindrape it into forcing it to fight your wars.

No matter how many times you say it’s not the case, no one actually believes it.
This is why pokefuckers will always win. It is the morally superior option.

Bruh. Forrest Gump is a great movie; I can watch it and root for Forrest and Jenny while simultaneously not endorsing such a relationship in real life.

It's likewise perfectly fine to have Pokemon fights in the fictional world while condemning such behavior in the real world.

Are you autistic? Autists tend to have trouble understanding basic nuances that normal people do.

>>59683243
Such a simple concept, yet so willfully ignored.
>>
>>59682298
yeah like the hawlucha in legends za
it wanted a trainer to make it fight strong pokemon

I hope the HM slave in my team is miserable.

This is pseudo-intellectual nonsense written by someone who takes themselves and fucking pokemon far too seriously.

>>59682274
To be fair there's people within the fanbase that think the same.

>Most wild Pokémon will avoid conflict and will only attack a human trainer out of fear.
Lore says otherwise.

>The same fucking discourse for twenty years.
>After Black and White.
>After Sun and Moon
>After Poketopia
>After Legends Arceus
Nothing ever changes...
>>
>>59684767
It's not because if you actually take Pokemon and it's themes and ideas seriously you wouldn't be typing this crap.

Gen 1 goes out of it's way to show this is nonsense and that's easy to pick up with basic media literacy.
>>
>>59684781
>Lore says otherwise.
Gameplay says otherwise going by the Legend games. The endless horde of shinx, Paras, and Drifloon's aren't attacking out of fear.
>>
>>59686973
Not sure exactly what your point about gen 1 is. They did take some whips away from trainers but let Team Rocket keep them because they're the bad guys. Originally Pokemon Trainers were "monster tamers" and like a lion tamer, used whips. It was decided before release that whips were not a good image and so they were mostly removed.

>>59686969
Gen 1 and 2 had it as well with the gradual removal of whips. (See above in this post.)

Reported to the godly Trump Administration for pagan woke marxist communism.
