Rats Of The V Riety Edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

Blaziken doesn't always even beat Excadrill because they might run Cape.
Drill became popular because people finally figured out you can build it that it's not an immediate autoloss to Zam.

Serious question: How difficult is it to actually play and enjoy the recent releases with scalpers driving up the prices of everything physical? I fell off the wagon back in like 2020 because it felt like it was raped by scalpers, can't imagine how bad it is these days.
>>
>>59663698
>How difficult is it to actually play and enjoy the recent releases with scalpers driving up the prices of everything physical?
Sealed product and what people do with it is a complete non-issue if you actually want to play the game. You can get the BDIF for $40 without ever opening a single pack, and any cards you need from new sets are usually 25-50 cents online.
>>
>>59663698
I started playing a few months ago; I bought a League Battle Deck on Amazon, upgraded it with singles from TCGPlayer, and played it in a local challenge. If you're not "buying sealed" it's generally cheap to pick up the singles you need; I even had some luck locally.
>>
>>59663698
Low-rarity singles are all you need to play at tourneys, and they don't get any cheaper than PTCG. The people who buy and open product, chasing after high-rarity pulls, have to make some of their money back somehow, so they offload bulk to shops, which then have an oversupply and sell it to players.

So what did the judge even say/do. It's not said anywhere
>>
>>59668293
he accused a judge of unfair treatment. Thing is he gave names and TPCi is super protective towards judges, so it's a permaban. Play!Pokémon would rather burn the playerbase than holding judges accountable.

Rule zealots will come and tell he should know the rules and stay shut, mumble shit about judges' right to privacy etc, but even if we buy that argument. What the fuck is happening in the scene, when people who are largely beloved, regarded by many as a net positive to the community, are getting banned because the people in charge are so horrible they're pissing them off. I remember when the people getting banned were genuine assholes - sex pests, violent retards, bullies, etc. Now it's decent people losing their marbles instead.

When the good guys start breaking the rules, there's something wrong in the system.
>>
>>59668293
My bad, you were asking about what the judge say, not the banned guy right

We'll never know because judges are coward and allergic to accountability.
>>
>>59668321

all you have to do when a judge fucks up is ask for their name and player ID, you will have them literally crying because they know you're going to report them to TPCI and they'll never work a major event again

this is the correct way to do things, not publicly bitching about judges

>>
>>59668399
it's naive to think it works like this. Judges are all about networking and very little about merit. If the accused judge is well connected no amount of reporting will take him down unless he's publicly caught doing something very criminal.

IIRC this player said he's had issues with that judge for years, what makes you think he didn't attempt the regular paths.

>>59668540
>If he doxed the judge publically then that's sort of a justified ban
perhaps, but I'll say it again

>When the good guys start breaking the rules, there's something wrong in the system.

I've seen literally hundreds of people stepping up to comment how much of a net positive for the community he's been for literally decades, and my point is NOT
>oh he's so nice and popular he should be above above the rules
but rather
>what kind of situation frustrated a good guy so much he ended earning a ban for venting
And it keeps happening because the system is broken, judges and SPECIALLY well connected judges are unaccountable. This is slowly driving away decent people while letting the worst of these communities in.
>>
Is Kaya now a stream judge?

Not to defend the judge or anything but if he's namedropping someones private information like that is a surefire way to get yourself banned or even fired from a job. You do not do that period, it's even banned on this site. Like obviously TCPi is going to handle that asap. There's a reason whistleblowers stay anonymous and receive protection from the repercussions.
Regardless if the judge was in the wrong, or the guy is super wholesome or the judge system is corrupted/unaccountable. That was the worst way for him to handle things.
>>
>>59669325
you're deliberately ignoring my point.
>>
>>59669477
What point? There's something wrong with the system? The judge being a douche? Yeah I acknowledged that. That doesn't defend what he did even if he's a nice guy
Even unhinged retards on xitter don't go namedropping and doxxing their neighbors or delivery drivers they hate, you simply don't do that.

Perhaps this drama and public pressure makes TCPi investigate properly and reform their procedures. Tho even if the judge ends up guilty, this caterpie guy has forever lost his career here by potentially endangering someone irl over this.

Just saying that whistleblowing stuff like that means you have to be prepared to accept consequences of endangering someone. TPCi is super privacy first, even when players get yeeted mid tournament like regidrago a year back in world, they don't publically namedrop them it's done quietly. Pretty much every company handles it like that. Then they do investigations after, otherwise it's a witchunt on a he said/she said where you don't even know if they're lying or not.

Judge has been harassing him specifically for the past decade according to his word, he tried emailing TPC and Play but never got responses. He also suspected someone over at TPC, probably Becca, being behind the intentional negligence of the matter because she's supposed to tard wrangle the entire staff that's hired under tpc. There's been a severe uptick of judges and professors in general going on power trips and I don't know how long this company is just going to ignore that

>>59669586

It's not that hard to find a judge or professors name since they're on LinkedIn and always published at the end of the credits for every event. Names are not private and are privy to the public. If he leaked their addresses or email handles and that wasn't on the internet, then that would be considered doxxing.

Does anyone even know the alleged name of the judge? Alessandro deleted the tweet and I saw at least 2 Chinese randos telling him to kick rocks so I'm suspecting the judge may be Asian? If so damn, fucking idiot making the rest of us Asians look bad.

I don't think it was an Asian judge since they've been harassing Alessandro for years, he wouldn't meet an Asian judge often enough to develop a feud. The judge is most likely from Europe itself. Mayyybe it could be a Chinese residing in Europe, or maybe it's just those randos just being karens.

I came first at the Halloween event at our league with Dhelmise, felt crappy to play at first but after finding Rahul's list it's so fucking good. Everyone's list was placed under a "trick" or a "treat" and depending on what that player was, they'd get a special rule applied to them each round.

>Round 1
Trick - Your attacks always cause confusion
Treat - Your attacks do +30 damage
I confused the opponent once because we were both playing single prizers lol

>Round 2
Trick - When your opponent plays a non-Pokemon card, put a damage counter on a Pokemon
Treat - When you play a supporter, heal 60 damage from one of your Pokemon
Lucario is EZ so didn't matter much

>Round 3
Trick - Choose the Prize Cards your opponent takes
Treat - Play with Prize Cards face up
This was the only one that felt unbalanced, opponent bricked and definitely could have used his prizes.

Did anyone else have a similar event?

Double colorless for pokemon without a rulebook would be fine. Until TPC decides to start streaming GLC or officially states they're making products with GLC in mind I dont really care about their rules. The game type is fun but its unofficial and idc if tcg live put it in as a limited time mode since TPCi runs that. We also need another radient or prism start type card. The format is getting so boring with ex cards. The next gen cant come soon enough if it means a shake up
>>
>>59673966
What about glc side events?
>>
>>59674084
With a quick google search GLC is an officially hosted side events but that doesnt mean it's an official format. I think it would be cool if it was official and for TPC gave it support with precons with some older cards that might be pricey to find but until that happens I'd rather the card makers focus on the official game. And like what anon said earlier, GLC will ban cards if theyre too strong for their format. They are quicker to ban bullshit than TPC ever will be.
>>
>>59674191
It's in the alternative formats handbook. You act like you don't go to locals which is a red flag for me.
>>
>>59674206
Every time I got it's prerelease or a cup. Never once saw glc on the side besides designated glc days hosted by the store. Ive been to other stores that dont even bother with glc. It’s a fun format but let's not pretend TPC has ever once championed it. It's not like singles and doubles for VGC.
>>
>>59674216
Your experience with the game is super narrow. GLC Is always played on Sides (With Raid, Ditto Draft, and 4 person standard) at regionals. Locals frequently play Expanded or other Alt Formats during Play Sessions. Pre-Releases, Cups and Challenges are separate. You should look at how Organizers sanction events. If you don't have any of these your locals suck.

>>
>>59674343
I mean it's alright. But that's what PCL has been doing for the last few years, hold everything about it back just enough to make it below usable. It could have done 140 base to knock out most one prize attackers, they could have made its ability work in the bench, having to have a stage 1 3-prizer in play is liability enough. They could have given it free retreat but instead you have to waste an Air Balloon or a special energy attach to give it that. Having said that, it could be a decent late game attacker if you can fit a couple of metal energy in the deck and can discard them relatively easy. Just promote after a knock out and search phillipe for an easy 240.
>>
>>59674420

I am registered for seven (7) pre-releases for a set that has like 3 meta cards.

The 3rd Place Senior's list from the World Championship is pretty much the only list anyone plays these days. It's consistent and has everything Lucario needs to execute its gameplan, just go fast and hit hard.

So I tried pocket TCG out of curiosity, realized it wasn't what the actual game was like, and downloaded TCG live. It's alright, I've been mainly using the mega Venasaur deck that I've slightly modified and a Maushold mill deck because it's funny. Compared to master duel it definitely seems a lot easier to get cards and build decks but there's not really any interaction that can happen on your opponent's turn. I've had some duels where you can just see how it's going to play out resulting in trading kills. Also not a huge fan of the mulligan mechanic, it can give the first turn player an even greater advantage due to bad luck.

There’s Ptcg live you can play against the ai on there if you select the “test deck” option and you don’t even need the cards in your collection to do that
>>
>>59678201
Ptcg gets really stale at this point in the standard rotation the best decks have all been sorted out and every rouge deck has been tried. I kind of like the no interaction because you can easily watch tv or something while playing but it definitely limits viable play styles. I was thinking about trying the gundam tcg but there’s no good official online client as far as I can tell.

>>
>>59681146
It's new enough to me that it's still interesting, and if I ever feel like creating a new deck it doesn't seem like too much of a hassle to make. Seriously, master duel's rate of gem acquisition is so slow and with most of the necessary cards for a deck being SR or UR that's what's going to bottleneck you, meanwhile everything on here runs on the tickets with lower rarity variants that can be made for cheap. I had a duel this morning though where the opponent milled 17 times before they could get a pokemon in their hand in the build and battle mode, fossil decks seems like you are actively sabotaging yourself since they only count as items in your hand.
>>
>>59679772
I get that they don't wanna make locking possible but they could at least make it cheaper energy wise or make it deal more damge, this is such a shit card
>>
the zesty muscle men are the most fucking busted deck lmao
>>
>>59673299
How do you even tie in this game
>>
Can't get over how bad this thing is

>Stage2
>3 prizer
>Water fighting???
>30 per dragon in the discard
>You need 7 dragons in the discard to at least do 210, the bare minimum
>8 for 240
>9 for 270
>10 for 300
>11 for 330
>12 to knock out opposing stage2 megas at 360
7-12 discards of fodder pokemon just to do anything? Where are you fitting the deckspace for that? How are you getting 2 energy on it? How are you chaining stage2s? There's no room to fit all that
Ceruledge works because it's a stage1 and the energy feeds back on itself. That deck already cried vsing 1 prize decks until solrock
Roaring moon worked because it had energy acceleration and was a 1 prizer.
You're not doing anything with a 3 prizer version. It autoloses vs 1 prize decks. It loses to other mega decks. It can't use wally because 2 energy. No free retreat despite it being the 5th fastest pokemon in the game??
>>
>>59682025
The evolution line itself makes up most of the fodder, then add another 8 dragons for 20 total.
Getting 2hko'd by 1-prizers is bad, but how many ex decks are swinging for 360?
There will be 2 years without dragapult for a dragons to get some new acceleration.

Being clefairy-weak is the biggest issue. The deck won't be able to funcion with 2 bench spaces.
>>
>>59682025

garchomp is fine, but it needs something worth doing while you actually build up to big ohkos

there's decent dragon support like tatsu (for the time being), dragonair and the new vibrava and drampa, but if the deck is just swinging with 3 prizers it will be awful

if it's like lucario where the deck has other options, it'll be playable
>>
File: gabite.jpg (39 KB, 379x527)
39 KB JPG
>>59682062
It's a 3 prizes so even if it's evolutions are feeding into itself, it doesn't matter when that's half the time already over.. It's not like polteageist or banette where it's 1 prize for +2 in the discard. It's 3 prizes for +3 (or +2 if you rare candy'd)
Vibrava literally does nothing but self discard. It needed an engine like this.

>but how many ex decks are swinging for 360?
A few but they all suck as it's always an infavorable prize trade into 1/2 prize decks. 3 prize megas are not worth their cost and that's still the case post rotation..

>for a dragons to get some new acceleration.
There's a new kommo-o in delta reign which looks at the top 6 and accelerates any basic energy there. but that's rng and another stage2 in a deck without any draw engine
>>
If this was dragon it would've saved garchomp desu

dragon megas will NOT be viable until clefairy is gone because a 3 prize liability that can be killed by this pokemon JUST being present in the match is awful.

They should make dragons only weak to dragons again because making them have no weakness clearly isn't working out
>>
>>59683106
dragons should have stayed colorless imo
>>
>>59683106

clefairy won't be nearly as strong without crispin, it'll require eswitch or a dedicated psychic deck with wonder patch to spawn it out of nowhere like anti-pult decks have been doing
>>
>>59683106
What? You can say that about any mega anon
Excadrill eats shit to a 1 prize moltres+tool. We have other low effort basic attackers like clefairy

Hello guys, I want to start getting into the collection part of TCG and I was wondering if it made sense at all to pull packs in a language that's not english nor japanese.
I don't want to scalp but it makes it more fun if I know I can find card rare enough to sell and make some money back.
I might start playing the online as well but I see the OP has a lot of research on that.
>>
>>59684272
This is old news, there's a bug that makes it appear again
>>
>>59684608
If you're just collecting just buy whatever is cheap, language doesn't matter. If you're playing the game, foreign cards aren't legal. Either way the collector's general will be more helpful.
>>
>>59684608
Depending on where you are, certain cards will be legal/illegal.
In Europe, all European cards are legal for ranked play.
In the US, only English cards are.
In casual tournaments typically anything is fine. If you're buying single Asian packs, watch out because they can be weighed/scanned to find the hits. Either buy sealed boxes or from a store you can trust.

Did some chart autism
There's a surprising amount of dragons without dragon type cards. Some like tyrantrum/dracovish only have 1 too.
Metal is by far the least used energy, only used with fighting/water/psychic. While water is the only one that has combos with every other type

I love Extended format, the expanded cardpool is nice. Regular format just feels too standardized.
>>
>>59687804
Nobody plays expanded because it's an entirely unsupported format except for the rare tournament. If they had a real banlist and players for it and/or a division between expanded and legacy cards I would play both but expanded suffers from the exact same thing standard is suffering from now, with the mild difference that there are like 2 other decks as good as regidrago but not many people play them so your talent pool is inundated with that boring ass deck. I do like Vileplume piles and I wanted to try the 2016 era decks but the time for those have past.
>>59687806
All of the new options are boring so I'm just playing a neutered version of decks I already play and there's no real fun in that. If anything new I would probably play Talonflame but I don't think I would enjoy it enough to keep at it compared to how fun Grimmsnarl was (and it's losing the parts that make it playable) so I'd probably just cope and play Arboliva and whatever grass attacker is good after rotation. Probably Beedrill I suppose but I dislike how inconsistent it is
>>
I’ve really been getting into playing on Live recently, and the nearest regional isnt until april after rotation. What’d be some good swaps in my decklist to “rotation proof” my deck. I want as much practice within those 6 months with a solid decklist
>>
>>59687870
I would say replace carmie with pyrotube and max belt with another air balloon. Rocky kind of sucks and has negative synergy with lunatone so just go all basics too.

A big part of being good is knowing how the other decks play so practicing to be good for post rotation is kind of pointless because all the best decks, which is what you’ll be facing, are going bye bye. I would enjoying playing dragapult, basic box, slow king, and festival lead now while you can those decks are fun and we probably won’t see anything at their power level for awhile.
>>
>>59687870
M-Lucario doesn't lose anything from the next rotation except Carmine (which most lists don't run) and ace-specs as a whole.
>>
>>59687870
Speaking from experience it's really not worth it on Live. If you're able to play some early Post-Ro games in person go for it but if you're playing against regular decks you're not getting relevant practice.

Going second and getting a mochi, energy and pech for a 70 damage attack carvanha is really fun. Sharpedo killing lots of stuff for 1 energy plus draw is also fun.
But the absolute best is when they miss a KO on the sharpedo, you wally, retreat, tox ability for one energy, add the second from hand, pech it back to active and go at it again really gets into people's minds. Bonus points if you retreat into a tatsu and grab a boss from its ability.

If the weakness creates an autoloss and the type has enough of a meta share that it's relevant, I won't play the deck. That's why I dropped Mega Lucario and Zoroark.

>zoro
heh get apple dunked

Depends on my local meta. Having autoloss matches is normal, most of the time you just have to get lucky not to run into them to win a local tourney, that's just how it is. Pokemon tcg is a coin toss you can fuck up.

I will be terrorizing my locals with Goldeen Festival Lead today. I just wanted everyone here to know. Being able to autocuck tealmask ogerpon, mega excadril and alakazam more than makes up for missing out on diplin.
>>
Do any pokemon have Resistances these days? Seems like a waste of space if the majority of cards don't have a resistance
>>
>>59694565
Some, but I can't think of the last time it was relevant beyond trapping a Steel-type in the active and repeatedly hitting it with Budew Itchy Pollen. I guess it also matters if you're playing Mega Luc and want to OHKO Alakazams
>>
>As long as this Pokemon is in play, attacks used by your [W] Pokemon do 30 more damage to your opponent's Benched Pokemon. This Ability's effect doesn't stack.

Pretty unique for an effect. Frosmoth can do 50 to the bench and sleep the active for 1 energy
>>
>>59694782
Seems cool but more importantly N's Vanilluxe now does 120 to active +40 to benched with this so building up to multi prize doubling counters attack is a lot more viable now. Unfortunately I don't think we have a water accelerating method so WCC is still kind of tough to hit without Ignition

That's why I mention frosmoth, it's super low effort to achieve while disrupting the active.
>>
>>59694867
I know, I just think Vanilluxe is more fun. If you're going to be playing some rogue gimmick deck, I would rather play the more fun looking one, but if it's at least somewhat playable I'll be playing this too. Spread and alt wincons are the only fun I have in this game anymore and they're working really hard to remove anything but punch active it seems
>>
>>59694782
I guess it replaces any munki+froslass package in mega starmie to let you continue to snipe the bench for 80.

>hit all hammers
>unfair stamp
>kill niggerpult, only 1 drakloak in bench
>manages to get both rosa and night stretcher in the next 4 cards
truly a demonic deck

People complaining about Dragapult are in for a rude [Psychic] awakening come rotation.
>>
>>59695124
smoochum is leaving, latias is leaving, dusknoir is leaving, pretty sure slowking is leaving (kyurem is DEFINITELY leaving)
>>
>>59695150
how will psychic survive with just mew, clefairy, psychic patch, dhelmise, alakazam, unknown, jellicent. we must print more for it

metal losing everything? fuck em.
grass losing ogerpon and bug catching set? lol!
water? LMAO WHO
>>
>>59695206
Grass had it too good being a t3 type for 6 months after 6 years of being irrelevant. We need it DEAD ASAP
>>
Why is Dragapult Dusknoir the worst version according to Limitless? Is it just the extra prizes it gives up that makes its winrate so bad? The ability to take KO's faster is my favorite part of that version.
>>
>>59695124
rotation will kill psychic decks as well, alakazam will lose half of its draw engine, slowking will be gone, hide and sneed will lose its draw engine and legacy. Maybe jellicent will have the upperhand as the only itemlock deck
>>
>>59695246
More draw engines will show up of course. Mist energy being removed is huge for alakazam. It gets to keep pseudo-buddy poffin with the psychic energy too while everyone else loses it. No dragapult means abras aren't eaten
>>
>>59695260
15-17 card hand without enriching and dudunsparce will not be a thing moving forward, alakazam, I can see alakazam turning into toucannon's draw engine and back up attacker actually
>>
>>59694521
the basic goldeen having the ability more than makes up for the lack of dipplin too. you probably play way more games only using the seaking line than using dipplin
>>
>>59695275
No unfair stamp either. Unless they're judging you're keeping your hand. Alakazam definitely has a lot of potential post rotation
>>
>>59695291
the issue is that dudunsparce can be recycled turn after turn efficiently, i guess everyone will run 4 strange timepiece to recycle kadabra and alakazam, but a compared to dudunsparce and enriching that can be preventively used if you are expecting hand disruption, alakazam is out of options after hand disruption.

This. It depends on hows the meta where you play.
And sometimes you can get the win anyway. Bricking or the player just being bad is a thing. At least around here we have BO1 and BO3 days at the big LGSs, so you can get away with a lot of stuff.
