    Surskit thread
I love this little pondskater and it's 4chan's birthday, so post Surskit itt (Masquerain is acceptable as well).
What's the one thing my boy needs to be more relevant?

Surskit is amazing. Little dude flies across the water surface at a billion miles an hour spamming hyper beams and shit.
    >>
    >>59635002
Cute and powerful! Masquerain honestly was a disappointing design, Surskit is so simple but striking. There aren't many totally blue Pokemon, and his stupid bowlcut and the blush-like face markings are kawaii as fuck
    Love this nigga

    Give Masquerain Drizzle
    >Weakens Fire weakness
    >100% Accurate STAB Hurricanes
    >Gets Water STAB back
    Easy peasy
    >>
    >>59635023
Masquerain didn't need to be Bug/Flying I have no idea why they did it. Gen 3 Surskit's best water move is Bubblebeam, but you have to delay evolution until way late to get it, and then it doesn't even get STAB when it evolves... And Bubblebeam is fine, but other shitters get Hydro Pump for the same sacrifice.

worse pelipper. rage powder might give it a niche in doubles, it's kinda fucked in singles unless it gets a massive buff like a mega or something
    >>
    >>
    >by the time this bowl cut ass bug/water motherfucker was introduced, there were already 2 gens of precedent for bug types with wings that could fly but weren't flying type (beedrill, venomoth, hell dustox even)
    >make its evolution bug/flying
Fucking why. What was so bad about a bug/water masquerain? It has RAIN in the name.

In the modern games I wouldn't mind a solution like this >>59635023 leveraging abilities to make it effectively triple type.
But it really loses the uniqueness factor when the totally moe design is gone in addition to the typing. Also the bowlcut is Surskit's main charm point I think.

I'm here because this asshat >>59645461 made me aware that there's already an actual thread on /vp/ dedicated to Surskit and Masquerain, and because I want to get more opinions from people who actually used Surskit/Masquerain in the past and people who know these Pokemon best.

So my question is... has anyone here ever used Surskit/Masquerain in a Ruby or Sapphire playthrough? I've only ever played Emerald so I never got the chance to catch a Surskit and evolve it into Masquerain, since those two Pokemon weren't obtainable in that game and were exclusive to the original RS.

The reason I'm considering using Masquerain is because, while on paper most of its stats in Gen 3 aren't that great (Masquerain did get a big stat boost but only beginning from Gen 7 onward) it does carry Intimidate which gives it a little more bulk and utility and apparently, according to my research, Masquerain has an insanely diverse movepool for a Bug type, and the design and concept of it and its prevo are really cool too.

Those factors seem to set Masquerain apart from other Bug/Flying Pokemon and I imagine it's pretty fun to use too compared to lots of other Bug types, at least in the early to mid game maybe.

Are there any anons who can share their experiences using Surskit/Masquerain?
    >>
    >>59645575
Oh yeah and the context of my post is that lately there have been lots of rumors that we're going to get ports of Ruby and Sapphire on the Switch soon apparently, and I just want to be ready to play them and be sure if it's a good idea to use Surskit/Masquerain in a playthrough, if those rumors end up being true.

You're being incredibly autistic since the games are piss easy no matter what you use, but I used Surskit in a Sapphire run the other year, he was cool!
Bubble rapes Roxanne and then it's just pretty good water coverage until it evolves. I held on for BubbleBeam and used Masquerain with BubbleBeam/Ice Beam/Aerial Ace/Silver Wind. It's special is higher than physical attack, so you have to accept that non-stab moves are better given it's weak learnset. Best move is unironically Hyper Beam or Take Down, but the recharge turn and recoil suck plus Take Down is tutor only. For tanky builds Water Sport and Rain Dance also exist but this idiotic evo isn't a water type so fuck me I guess.

Surskit is the silliest of silly little guys and I love it. It's my #1 favorite NFE Pokemon and in my top 5 for the franchise overall.

Masquerain losing the unique Bug/Water typing is one of my biggest disappointments in Pokemon. I still like it a lot, but it's just not as great as it could have been.

    >>59645575
I've used it in R/S and in XD. It's not great, but it's workable. Masquerain really suffers in gen 3 before the physical/special split because both of its STABs are physical. Bubblebeam, Ice Beam, and Giga Drain are decent enough coverage to get by even without STAB, plus Intimidate and Stun Spore are good utility too.

It gets a lot better after the physical/special split though. I've used Masquerain in playthroughs of later gen games several times, and I even did a Surskit solo run in OR/AS one time.

I've beaten Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire with unevolved surskit only, and used unevolved surskit on my XD team on the GC VC. The biggest downside is you are stuck with Bubble[beam] for a long time; Hydro Pump and Psybeam/Mud Shot are egg moves, and Ice Beam/Giga Drain/Water Pulse TMs are also obtained late.
And Roxanne's Nosepass always gives me trouble. I guess I'm just unlucky with avoiding Rock Tombs.

I haven't played the Pokemon TCG in like 20 years, but apparently a Surskit/Masquerain deck is one of the prerelease decks for the new set coming out. Should I go to a prerelease event next weekend for my favorite little bug?

To follow up on >>59683365 I did go to a Delta Reign prerelease today, but sadly, I didn't get to play with the Masquerain deck. I got the Magmortar deck instead, and we weren't allowed to trade until the event was over. I did find someone to trade decks with afterwards though, and I want to build the Masquerain deck out into a full 60 card deck at some point.
