Decidueye EditionPrevious >>59514822>FAQ>What is this?People are turning into Pokemon in the real world. Some are having the time of their lives, and some are struggling to survive. These are their stories.>How do I join?Just start posting.>What's the lore?People and animals (and at least one tree) are changing at random in their sleep, waking up still in the real world, but now as Pokemon, and nobody knows why (that includes you. Please don't try to explain it). Just enough transformations are occurring to notably change day-to-day life without collapsing civilization. This is not the apocalypse, even if it might feel like it to some characters in the moment. Some people are more in touch with their instincts than others, and some have lost more of their humanity than others. That's about it. Avoid legendaries if possible.>What the Hell is PIPS?In many of the stories, the scientific community in-universe has begun referring to Pokemon instincts and the loss of humanity some people who transform experience as Pokémon Induced Psychosis Syndrome, or PIPS. The term is explained in more detail here: https://rentry.org/sip-concepts

Jolteanon here (I guess I could start calling myself that). Been working on a small story with Jay/Heather. I’ll try finishing it in this thread.Meanwhile, I decided to start reading some /sip/ stories. Previously, I’ve just read snippets of greentexts here and there, mainly from Decidueye, Mienshao, and Lucario. They were good, but I prefer prose, so I chose a random prose fic to start with: Serpent and Wyrm (https://rentry.co/serpentandwyrm)It was a very enjoyable read. My feedback for the author: I like how you wrote the protagonists and their relationship. Miirym is adorable, and it’s cute to see her repaying her owner for everything he’s done for her. You include a lot of evocative descriptions that create a clear picture, although it gets a bit excessive at times. I liked the scene in ch2 where Simon is struggling to comprehend everything. His emotions were portrayed well and felt believable. The Wurmple scene was funny and the Nickit scene was tense. It was cool to see Simon tap into his inner smugleaf there. On that note, it’s interesting to watch him trying to reign in his growing instincts while Miirym readily accepts hers. Miirym’s false memories and strange nightmare, along with the voice in Simon’s head, create a good sense of foreboding.I enjoyed the training scene too. The talk about “soulfire” and exerting pressure on the opponent makes for an interesting angle, and it was satisfying to see Simon use the serpent as motivation. The sheer quirkiness of Valerie isn’t my cup of tea, and Squire feels underdeveloped compared to his companion, but their mysterious stone is intriguing.I assumed this story would be done since it’s listed under archived stories, but it seems like it’s either cancelled or on hiatus. I dunno if the author has said anything about the story status, but if you’re reading this, I hope you continue the story someday. I’m definitely a fan.
>>59614247Joltanon...Such a sad story of a former /vp/ anon.
>>59613011>>59613019I'd say that he needs to touch grass but it might actually hurt him. The amount of normal people who don't have THAT preconception about Vaporeon must outnumber the amount of people poisoned by the internet.
>>59605672This is where the traumatized victim spirals after having their sense of normalcy completely up-ended. Someone else already mentioned that leaning on others and rebuilding a sense of trust and security is going to be important, but I also think it'd be worth Cruz sharpening his combat skills as well - maybe even form a neighborhood training group with Amaro and others so you can all get stronger and take on bad actors like that Gallade together. You don't have to be paranoid, but there's no reason not to be prepared, especially when you have the impressive combat potential of an Ultra Beast. He already has the very helpful mentor instinct figure he can call upon for that... who seems curiously silent right now, come to think...>Did I already mess up just in general by exposing myselfAbsolutely not. You have every right to go on living your life.>fuck could HE have been the lookout?Yeah this is why just stewing in your own juices is NOT a good idea. Gotta do something proactive to settle the hyper-vigilance down.>morons at the governmentWhat IS the Mexican government doing in response to all this, anyway?>...good god this is awful...I know, man. But you'll make it.>...almost wish I'd turned into something that'd be even remotely justified in going feral, would make life easier in some ways...Now THERE'S an interesting and unique interaction with PIPS - this almost detached consideration, like it might actually be possible to go feral by choice. A fascinating if terrifying possibility.>Maybe I'll take a short nap after that.I'm hoping he meets the mentor in his sleep again. Cruz could use a catalyzing event to get him moving again right now, and that might be just the kick in the rearward folds that he needs.Dour as it may have been, this was a superb update and you shouldn't feel bad about it at all. It's great to see another side of a usually sunshiney character and be left wondering how he's gonna navigate this awful situation.
>>59610635The fact that we now have two full-byrd drawfags among our writers is glorious and the actual pic is great. Definitely hope to see more from you going forward.Electric bugs do have a bit of an intrinsic contradiction in terms of being bird prey. Helpful for Joel, at any rate. Now I'm curious how Nick would react if he knew Joel's instincts tell him to be wary of Nick possibly eating him. Team Tasty all over again...Pfft. Diogenes.I guess Nick has a harder time hiding things from Joel. Handy.>listen to his story with your back turnedJoel knows this dude well, huh?Ooof. Yeaaah, his reticence makes a lot of sense now. It's one thing if his (possible. That's still just my theory as to what his deal is) death wish effects only himself, but when it hurts somebody else... perhaps especially if they try to brush it off... That officer is one calm dude, by the way.>you couldn't even begin to understand why exactlyAin't it obvious, Joel? At least now we know how to get through to him. Sorta.Well, Joel may not know exactly how to help, but at least he's able to speak SOME sense. As I mentioned with Eti, just being there for Nick will be the most important thing. Granted I wouldn't called what happened a "puddle", but if we can support Nick long enough to get him to genuinely open up, we can figure out how to avoid such dangerous circumstances in the future. Nick's more worried about the lefty, but all that Nylon melting into Nick definitely wasn't good for HIM, either. Do you think Pokemon are still subject to carcinogens...?Both Nick and Eti have a lot to think about. Joel is just happy to be here... at least until we inevitably get more about HIS trauma...Joltik smiles are best smiles. An image for you to keep in your mind while you try to deal with this, Nick. Joel is one of the good ones - don't go letting your buddy down.Solid stuff as always, Miensha. Really looking forward to seeing how these beloved gooberinos navigate their issues too.

>>59614247Hi. Someone told me you posted this. Thanks for the review, and glad you liked it. Unfortunately that’s all I have, the story is cancelled. I wore myself into too many corners with what I wanted to do and the setting wouldn’t really allow, so it became more of a nuisance to write than something enjoyable. Sorry about that
>>59616279That's alright, but maybe we can still help. Which corner is feeling inescapable right now?

>>59617163awwThat's an interesting aspect of this setting. There's going to be a bunch of babies who grow up not knowing a world without Pokemon. All the transformations will just be a fact of life, and it'll be totally normal to grow up with some family members having been Pokemon as far back as you can remember, or family/friends/yourself randomly transforming.Kind of a creepy concept in a way, but also interesting to think about how it would affect the mindset of different generations.

Hi /sip/, with Gartic Phone being such a fun time, I had an idea to make more such events in the future. Cards Against Humanity came to mind, but since "pretend you're xyzzy" has gone to shit, custom decks weren't really available anymore. Guess what, I found an alternative! It's called Massive Decks, which integrates with Many Decks for custom deck lists. But enough yapping, you can probably guess what's next: Let's create a /sip/ themed custom deck together! I prepared a survey where everyone can suggest as many black and white cards as their heart desires.>www jotform com 262621908325053Feel free to get your suggestions in, but please keep the cards themed around the thread – get inspired by existing stories or get ideas out of your head that weren't good enough for a green or oneshot. I will try and curate a full deck list, which I will post here as soon as it's ready. The goal should be to have enough cards to make a full game by itself.Examples for black cards:- I never imagined that _ could be a PIPS symptom.- Emma's Emporium has a new collection for turnees. It's called _.- Being a writer for /sip/ is great, as long as you don’t mind _ every day.Examples for white cards:- crippling PIPS symptoms- Micro-aggressions against Dark-Types- not beating the Furry allegationsI'll try and keep the survey open for as long as the current thread is active, perhaps a bit longer.

>>59627093>>59627535Thank you so much. I love hearing what people think about my writing, and I'm glad you both enjoyed the story. It's also nice to hear that I seem to be succeeding with creating the wholesome feel I aimed for.>I wonder how he deals with meal times or bathing now.I'd say his mom helps him bathe, as if he were a pet dog or a baby. Definitely demeaning, but it's the only realistic option. As for meals, he climbs up on his chair and sits at the table so he can maintain some dignity. But I imagine Pokemon have dietary restrictions similar to real animals, so he usually wouldn't be able to eat the exact same meal as everyone else. He may be able to eat some of it, but his portion would need to be set aside and prepared differently to hold anything that would upset his stomach. And sometimes he may need to have a totally different meal, if his family eats something that can't be modified for him. Either way, someone has to cut it up into bite-size pieces before he can eat it.Of course, there's always the option to just eat a battery. I'm sure that'll work out perfectly fine for him.Either way, there's no escaping the water bowl. He can't hold a glass without hands and he can't use a straw without lips. Gotta scoop up water with his tongue and inevitably make a mess.(There's potential for another slice of life story here, but we'll see how that pans out.)

Everyone had a specialty: Jonas was always such a good roleplayer that you could forget you were speaking to him. Arthur was always wound up being the party leader even when he vowed to not take up the mantle. And Caleb was always too funny to bait into making the stupidest decisions.>You're known for... making the most unique characters.>You spend days upon days trying to think of what you'd most want to be and that little idea in the back of your head just won't leave you alone.>You know if you don't do it you'll regret it.>Fine, whatever, you make your character sheet and get on with it. Hopefully the rest of the group doesn't look forward to what little spice you add.>Fast forward and the group absolutely looks forward to your spice.>You pray others will pick up the slack.>Your prayer is laughed at as Caleb declares he is a halfling priest, Arthur an elf druid, and Jonas a half-orc barbarian.>Everyone looks at you waiting to hear about your character.>You sigh and look down at your character sheet. >You see the lights leave from their eyes as you sheepishly say "Human warrior.">They all let out a groan. You do your best impression of a shrug and say"Just let me have this.">At the very least you gave him an interesting backstory: he was a witch's cat that knocked over a transformation.>The irony is not lost on the group as they all chuckle before getting back into the DM's opening dialogue.>You smile as it feels like things are returning a bit back to normal, though roleplaying a human sure helps in that regard.

>>59626252Nice, man. Really pleased to see you decided to continue this."Squirrel!" - Jay, probably Honestly, I wouldn't mind having electro-doggy dreams. Sounds a lot more fun than what I usually have, which is either sludgy, disconnected narratives that make no sense or (more often) literally nothing at all.I mean you CAN buy human-sized dog beds. I've always said dog bed-style beds would be popular in the Mystery Dungeon universe were they to advance beyond piles of hay. It's only demeaning until it becomes normalised. If you can get in touch with it without, so to speak, going fully native, I agree with Heather that it can very much be a good thing. Of course you all know my views on this by now.Still, I keked pretty good at the, "I don't want to get in touch with that." line.I dunno, man, you could make yourself pretty marketable if you wanted to be. Them cats are already doing it by the looks, so you should be out there repping and stanning for doggo-kind.Aww. Forgive me for Megamind memeing, but, no patpats?Okay, okay, very much no patpats. It's worth pointing out that humans are animals too. Having the level of higher conscious thought necessary for civilization building matters _way_ more than the bodyplan does. (disclaimer - I know IRL that's not really true, but you get what I'm saying)Still, you should never have to feel afraid to share your concerns and, lucky you, your sister understands that. So you just tell the instincts to shut up? Doy, why didn't the rest of us think of that! Gawddangit!Reminding yourself that other people have it worse never helps, in my experience. Lucky as you may be, it's okay to struggle.Time and a place, mum, jeeze! Ah well, looks like it worked out.I honestly can't really do much more than keep heaping on the praise that the others already have. It's great stuff - super cute and wholesome, and just like with Cruz I wanna see more of Jay's life, struggles, and wholesome chungus community and family.
It probably feels like you can't contribute much value to your community without access to hands or psychic powers. Even if people love you, its going to hurt to think people have no use for you.
>>59629814What would happen if you hooked up a turnee to one of those brain wave controlled exoskeleton things?Imagine how disheartening it would be to try to move the robot arm with your mind like you used to, only for it to move like an animal foreleg.
>>59629854We already know enough about neuroplasticity that the animal limb movement wouldn't last. You can train your brain to work effectively arbitrary limbs as an extension of yourself.
>>59629943Caveat: if the neural-architecture differs too much, that might not be the case. I don't know if mouse-model neuroplasticity is good enough to achieve human results, because the cell lineages of grey matter are different between humans and mice. The same is likely true between humans and Pokemon, but not necessarily. Neurons are not all the same, not even within our own brains.

https://rentry.org/cb24k1tiAnother update for the Church story. The longer this goes, the more I'm starting to realize that I can't keep writing it forever. I've never really wanted to do a forever story and this wasn't really supposed to go on that long.I'm not totally done writing though. I've got something else I'm working on for the thread. It's taken me a bit longer because I've been doing a bunch of drawings for it and now inktober's come around and I'm putting a lot of time into that as well.I appreciate people here who have kept up with this story up until now, at least. It's not over yet. Still have one more thing I know I want to do with Isaac before I fully shutter things. I’m glad.”>you finally arrived at the top level and the overall feeling could only be described as “luxury”>the carpet was plush, the trimming was all in rich wood, and the doors and windows to your suite were frosted glass>etched out of the frost was a stylized bird’s nest shape, allowing only a small peak into the room>>”So here we are in the birds nest suite! It’s high up, but you get to see every angle with all the media coverage you could possibly want piped in. You’ll get a better view than some of people sitting on the grass.”>>”Take a look around. Everything you could possibly need is in here. There’s a menu on the counter, and feel free to order whatever you like. It’s all included. I have to go talk with our other guests. See you soon”>alone in the room, you decided to take survey of the space that was going to be all yours for the next couple hours>the room was obviously intended for the figureheads the university wanted to woo the most>there was a bar space with several mini refrigerators, each fully stocked with every kind of beverage you could think of, including alcohol>inside the cabinets was a selection of cutlery and flatware for the food>on the wall was a phone to contact the kitchen to place your order>despite the space being much too large for just one person, you feared it would end up feeling lonely having it all to yourself>the thought occurred to you that you should’ve brought paperwork to do while you were waiting for the game to start
>>59661054>then again, the clear bag policy would have prevented you from bringing your briefcase>after admiring the mural on one of the walls, showcasing famous moments in team history, you turned your attention to the seating area>several couches were all angled towards the 9 televisions that covered the wall>you tuned each one to a different feed, giving you a view over the whole event with the primary stream front and center>having some free time before the broadcast began, you walked over to the balcony opening up to field itself>there was a pair of binoculars provided on the side table inside>with those, it would be easy to see down onto the field and get every possible detail you could want during a game>and yet, you leaned on the railing to see what you can see on your own>you knew owls had amazing vision, why not give your own eyesight a stress test?>realistically, this was the first opportunity you had to focus on something so small and so far away>in your everyday life, you were lucky if you focused on something further away than the back of the room>most of the time, you were focusing on textbooks and papers, a device, or the whiteboard>as it turned out, you could see far more than you ever thought possible with the naked eye>it’s hard to imagine or describe what better than “perfect” vision is like>you didn’t expect to be able to see the individual seats across the stadium from such a high vantage point>but not only that, you could pick out and read the number plate on each individual seat>it wasn’t like zooming in to a photo and losing the periphery, it was like seeing finer detail and higher resolution than you thought possible>in the same way you could shift your focus from a book in front of you to the wall across the room, to a tree through the window>things just shifted in and out of focus with surprising clarity>being so high up, you could actually sense the wind blowing above the stadium
>>59661059>feeling the currents around the feather leaves that made up your hood was a strangely pleasant sensation>it was almost fun to just stand there, feel the breeze, and pick out details you could see with your super vision>was this what flying would be like?>>”Hey Professor! Sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to remind you to place your order. Kickoff is starting soon, and the kitchen gets swamped.”>the athletic Director had popped in again to see if you were settled“Oh, uh, sure. I’ll just have whatever you recommend”>you sheepishly walked back in, ashamed for some unknown reason>>”Perfect. I’ll go ahead and put that in for you. Also, I was also supposed to give you this gift basket, a little something from all of us. See you soon.">as quickly as he had entered, he vanished again>there was an emerald green gift bag on the table with the school’s fighting eagle mascot embossed in silver on the side>the design was straight out of a Fleischer cartoon, complete with pie eyes and rubber hose legs>if not for the wings and beak, some people would be hard pressed to guess what it was>the lore claimed that the design was donated by the original film studio before it went out of business>inside the bag was a reusable water bottle with the mascot, a giant foam finger, a lanyard, and a program for the evening’s game>trying on the foam finger made you reminisce about what having five fingers was like, so you quickly returned it to the bag before your thoughts could dwell>you decided to lie down and take up the entire sofa facing the door>reading the program would be a nice way to kill time until the game started>...>the experience of watching the game was pretty nice>the crowd going crazy as the home team took the field>cheerleaders performing along the sidelines>the slightly creepy mascot antagonizing the visiting team>finally the kickoff as the sun began to set behind you and the field lights came on
>>59661066>it was tempting to watch the game from the couches, but you wanted to experiment with your sight more>you returned to the balcony and watched the game with your own eyes>you found that you could track the ball with ease as it was held, snapped, faked, rushed, passed, fumbled and intercepted during a play>oof, rough start>oh well, they have plenty of time>the sun setting let the air cool, creating currents from the hot concrete radiating out stored heat>this really did feel nice>you briefly wondered if this is what a owl felt like watching prey in the underbrush from the top of a tree>isn't it nice not having to hunt for food or fight for survival?>you read in the program that football has some ties back to the strategies of armies during war>sure, whatever you say buddy>you cracked open one of the free sports drinks>you were getting pretty good at not spilling anything with normal bottles>but you couldn’t resist trying one of the “action nozzles” and squirting the impossibly blue liquid into your mouth>one coughing fit later, you recovered from swallowing wrong and settled for drinking like normal>the food arrived by the end of the first quarter>despite being premium in every way, wagyu beef, polish sausages, and carne asada, this was still basically stadium fare of sliders, hot dogs, and nachos>it was very good, but again, too much for one person>you ate at the balcony, feeling the breeze through your feathers>the white noise of the crowd was almost soothing as you felt the stress from this week leave you>”Alright, I gotta go! How many of you guys have actually read Kafka’s Metamorphosis? I’ve started reading it and it is EXACTLY like the stuff in this thread. It’s weird reading “classical” literature and seeing 4chan prose.
>>59686128It's sitting on my shelf right now. I read it earlier in the year, after I began to write for /sip/. While it does have parallels, I don't think it has much to do with /sip/ at all. The stories in here mostly focus on the transformation or the mental and physical aspects of the change, while Kafka's work (spoilered my interpretation of Metamorphosis, no story spoiler) is a social commentary on being a burden to your family if you're not able-bodied; that a man is worthless – if not shunned – when not able to provide. Ask yourself this: What would change if you switch the bug with just being crippled after an accident? At least that's my interpretation of it. I hope you enjoy the rest of the book. I'd love to hear your interpretation and parallels to /sip/.-Also, small update from my side. Hit an ugly rut that stopped me from writing anything of value. I hope that I find my rhythm again early next month. There's the one year anniversary of WBIA as well and I've got ideas for that, too.

>>59687365>>haaaaa...>well... now what?>you had half a mind to trash the place or do something else juvenile, but obviously thought better of it>you had wanted to tell that psycho that you were not an animal!>you were a living breathing hum->...>person>but the pragmatic approach was the more likely to work>the room had cooled back down after being heated by so many bodies packed inside>you flopped onto the third, yet unused couch and try to numb your mind by watching the rest of the game in peace>you didn't bother turning the volume back up on the TV>opting instead to just let the crowd and announcer sounds drift in through the open window>["What an unbelievable play by the home team! It looked like they were about to lose it all, only for them to claw their way back, and make the score to tie the game! This isn't over yet folks!"]>the marching band on the sidelines played a cheery tune while the cheerleaders performed and a cartoony bird costume mascot rallied the crowd by doing backflips for every point scored"yaaay">you forced yourself to calm down and not think about what had just happened>there was only one thought you let linger in your mind>you absolutely must learn how to fly in order to get a grip on this body>if it ever came down to “fight or flight” you never wanted to be stuck with “fight”
>>59687386>I got back into a corner and was ready to kill people to get out of itYeah, this definitely makes sense as Professor D's make-or-break moment for whether or not he should learn to fly. Excellent update.

>>59687432Extremely justified crashout. Behead marketing agents
>>59687774>>59687396Honestly though, how cool would it be to go to a school where the mascot was a Decidueye?
>>59687356in all fairness, wanting to beat up annoying people is a very natural response
>>59688230It would be awesome, which is why I couldn't blame this story's brand management department/hired agency for trying to be opportunists, but I'd blame the heck out of them for being pushy jerks about it.
>pshht, you see people turning in to Pokémon all around us and still think there’s a god?>clearly this is just some SCIENCE phenomenon we simply haven’t done enough peer reviewed research on

Y'know, if not for the whole "hatred of the living" conundrum, I wonder if Layla'd use her zork status to do some spooky illusions around Halloween to amuse the local children in her neighborhood, or at least Copanon's while she's staying with him
>>59691161If she got over her hatred of the living thing, she probably needs to figure out what she still loves. She might need a change of employment to have a chance to go places and do things that remind her of the good in the world.
>>59691161The Rusefox GF story on the Lucario writer's pastebin has comfy Halloween parts.
>>59691888I love that jack o’lantern carving scene. The story as a whole genuinely convinced me to start writing here.
>>59649322You just have to be careful you're not dealing with a Zoroark yapping randomly for treats
>>59692697>Is there a Zoroark in this room right now?>It’s entirely possible but there’s no way of knowing for sureImagine if only kind and decent people turned into traditionally “tricky” or “evil” Pokemon
>>59692729I just find the idea of discount Absol extremely funny. Like you ask a shady employer to bring theirs out and it's just a Persian
>>59692745>”I assure you, inspector, that we hold security in the utmost regard and even have the latest in Pokémon based safety measures for our works sites”>The Persian lying on the pet couch in the office gave a discontented yawn and got up and trotted over to the inspector>Whether it was a particularly lazy human or particularly intelligent cat that had turned into this, you couldn’t tell by looking>After gazing up and down at the inspector, they gave a quick swipe of its paw at his shoes, causing his shoelaces to come undone>”There!
