    >STALKER x Tarkov

I'm still doing only PvE because I'm not prepared to throw tons of loadouts at sweatlords.
    >>
Devs cooked with some of these chronogene descriptions lol
    >>
    Game looks cool
    >>
    >>3064899
I've been having a lot of fun with it. I played it a while ago and jumped back in recently and could tell the devs put a lot of good effort into the game. The game design since has been incredible. The interchangeability between playing PvE and PvP modes, the progression system, the repeatability and replayability factors, gun variety, wipe mechanic (personal timelines) being entirely player decided is brilliant, stamina system tied to heart rate. The UI is also some of the best I've seen in a video game. The quality of life mechanics are great. And the game runs well on any system. With the harmonization cycles (battlepass), Active Matter is going to go places.
    >>
    >>3064899
its fun. gunplay a little janky but its really easy to get into and pretty forgiving in the realm of extraction shooters. about as forgiving as arc raiders id say. maybe more because getting crafting materials is pretty easy and pve mode is always a nice crutch to fall back on in case you get in the red.
    >>
    >>3064962
PvP in games like this is nothing but suffering. Hunt was better because of the limitations the guns gave you, but that game has gone way downhill. This is closer to Tarkov so a Russian camper is going to take you out while you're getting mobbed 100% of the time.
    >>
    >>3065317
But it's literally the best part of the game?
    >>
    >>3065435
Explain how getting blindsided by sweaty ruskis when the game piles on its usual bullshit and losing hard-earned gear is fun.
    >>
    >>3065516
    >losing hard-earned gear
gear is piss easy to come by in this game.
    >>
    >>3065530
You burn through it pretty fast regardless.
    >>
    >>3065516
Because the gunplay is very tight and for the most part balanced and the armor system means getting one tapped is impossible with the right gear. Poor visibility also biases most firefights to spray and pray which all feels very visceral and dynamic in combination. The biggest issue used to be getting 2v1 or 3v1 by squads but there's a solo only queue now. The sweatiest players are usually squaded up and out of 15 players dumped into the average solos shegolskoe match only like 2-4 are actually scary to fight. If you are getting 3rd partied a lot after triggering a mob you need to play more patiently or equip the speed perks to get out of dodge quicker. Also it seems like you haven't played Tarkov recently if you think it plays anything like this game.
    >>3065530
Yeah, the reduced gear fear turns what would be immensely frustrating in other games into a minor setback. It's only really bad when you find an item you need to extract to unlock it in the replicator.
    >>
    >>3065618
    >It's only really bad when you find an item you need to extract to unlock it in the replicator
I found a sweet Abakan with one of the special modifiers in the PvE mode and put it into my safe container. I had 12 minutes left in the raid when the game crashed. I crashed out so hard after that. I loaded the game back up and saw I couldn't reconnect like I could with PvP matches. Then in some crazy circumstance, I saw a notification that all the gear I brought into that raid was returned to me. I had large rig, large backpack, and a kitted out AK-12. I was super surprised the game knew to do that. Like a dev was watching my game and took pity or something. The game crash was my computer's fault too to be honest.

The more I play Active Matter, the more I feel the STALKER vibes. They should add more maps with deep spooky bunkers, military complexes, and horrific mobs like controllers but I guess devourers are scary and similar enough. Statues though were frightening when I first encountered them.

They could add all that and people will still queue up factory for the millioneth time. I really don't understand it. Park has this badass underground section and people want to play shitty ass Ozergoe or Shitsumu over and over again.

farming investigations and resources in PvE to stockpile PvP gear is the meta though
I dont blame new players for sticking with PvE for awhile although they demand to be catered to pretty heavily, the lower rewards for less risk is a good balance right now I think
    >>
    >>3067682
place and protect is fine if you abuse the level geometry to place the beacon in a very difficult place to attack. In Cargo Port I placed it on top of a truck crane boom.

I am guessing since youre in this thread AM has interested you. This would be pretty beginner level. The pvp does have some sweats but it is relatively easy to avoid the PvP even on the smaller maps. PvE mode is available for all maps at any time and still has pretty good loot so you can farm up pretty easily there. The game also has a crafting system, so long as you have the crafting blueprint for a gun or equipment, you can make them again either via insta-crafting via resources or the timed-crafting which has a set amount of charges.

Pretty forgiving in that sense. TTK is also pretty quick on all guns so even the starter AK can knock a fully armored guy very quickly.
    >>
    >>3074538
I'm normally iffy on the genre. Hunt: Showdown used to be one of my favorite games of all time, but they overhauled the engine and it's just not the same game anymore.

Active Matter is scratching the same itch while being satisfyingly STALKER-like. I haven't done as much PvP as Hunt, but I liked how in that game the mechanics of the guns meant that a back-and-forth between players was much more strategic, tense, and tactical. With the armor system in Active Matter it's much the same.

    >Managing gear has become less of a hassle, magazines no longer can drop on reload, visual recoil when using scopes has been adjusted, and improved item swapping when changing backpacks and safe containers at the Shelter.

    >In large monster concentrations, enemies now spawn less often and in waves, and there's a dedicated device for clearing them out.

I played the demo a little bit when it was on Steam, how's the single player content? I know there's PvE, and I don't mind any lack of story since I'm content with a couple matches every now and then as long as there isn't any FOMO events like Enlisted and War Thunder constantly have

there are daily recurring objectives for progression, does that count? its a special map condition they had for some days where you could find ww2 weapons on one map. there is a battlepass that progresses depending on prestiging your character and special rewards for these 90 day battlepass cycles. but for this first battlepass, its like trophy base decorations. the other rewards for the battlepass will always remain there forever because in the new system, you can always buy access into any old battlepasses.
    >>
    >>3078059
    >there are daily recurring objectives for progression, does that count? its a special map condition they had for some days where you could find ww2 weapons on one map.
mean to say daily refreshing objectives for progression, and there was a separate map event that had the ww2 guns.
pic related said battlepass. the onces that have the yellow banner and with exclusive written are these seasons exclusive rewards for the battlepass and wiping. just camo, trophy and a dogtag. no guns or no character. when they make a new battlepass in 90 days or whatever, you could still buy into this current battlepass or finish when the new one starts and still get all those weapons and guns.
    >>
    >>3078073

    >>3078073
How do the battle passes work if you wipe your character? Do you have automatic access to all the ones you were in before or do you have to spend the purple resource to buy each battle pass and then use merits to unlock prior stuff. Or is the stuff you unlock with merits permanent?

E.g. if you buy that RSh-12 revolver for 6k merits this battle pass, then wipe your character next battle pass, is it unlocked or do you have to go back and buy 250 Shades of Liberty and then spend another 6k merits to get the RSh-12?
    >>
    >>3078249
    >is it unlocked or do you have to go back and buy 250 Shades of Liberty and then spend another 6k merits to get the RSh-12?
i wiped before this new battlepass thing and i was already enrolled to the old pass and my progress and rewards were saved. its only like 250 purple points anyways to buy in, quests and priority objectives give 20 per. so in my pic, i bought the dp-12, lets say they give a new pass, i will save my entry and progress to the old pass.
    >>
The underground section of park is so fucking complicated the raid always times out before I've explored all of it

Does anyone have a list of what gear items can be looted? Or are certain items like weapon mods only obtainable through the shop, replicator, or fusion? I tried looting an M16A4 from a container to unlock it but only found out after it wasn't an Enriched copy. So do certain items not exist in an Enriched copy? If I want a new foregrip can I find an Enriched copy in-game?
    >>
    >>3081392
you can look at the replicator menu and mouseover a blueprint to see how it is unlocked, most weapon mods are monolith unlocks but a few are extract enriched, some like the m14 scope dont show in the menu until you extract them

I found an M249 Para in a box and extracted hoping it would unlock the gun but it turned out to not be Enriched so it wasn't unlocked
    >you can look at the replicator menu and mouseover a blueprint to see how it is unlocked
A bunch of weapon mods say you can unlock them by extracting with them but I have literally never seen a weapon mod besides the Gepard SMG Suppressor and maybe a few others I'm forgetting but it's very limited basically from what I've seen. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places for them. I've never seen enriched stuff from air drops so if you're trying to unlock stuff that way they're not it.

it doesnt really play like tarkov other than some of the same weapons being featured because there is no AP ammo or armor that invalidates hundreds of rounds connecting, and it has monsters and anomalies that populate every raid
a pretty significant amount of content bolstered by being able to self wipe after unlocking the progression levels to get more rewards, but no campaign missions or anything just questlines and procedural objectives for a given map
the PvP isnt that sweaty, not even in the same category as the metafaggotry of EFT, but your mileage may vary
its not very arcadey at all with a conscious effort to be more hardcore than the devs other projects, but there isnt a pointless food/water/rest system either
its more like an extraction stalker than a tarkov with monsters IMO, its also way less buggy than EFT or stalker while having really nice quality of life features like an easy to use live map and keys being labeled to what they can be used for, it also has mag packing animations and drivable vehicles which tarkov may as well never have at this point

    BTRs getting added
    >>
Is there any reason I wouldn't want to hack someone's mindvault after killing them?
    >>
    >>3135016
Their accumulated Active Matter drops and you get a dog tag which can used in a fusion recipe for monolith tokens. It could prevent them from respawning or being revived but I'm not sure on that.
    >>
    >>3135016
it telegraphs your position to everyone in the raid

so hyped for tanks and the faction war stuff
    >>
    >>3135131
Do they retain their active matter if I don't slurp their mind?
    >>
    >>3135660
I don't think they retain it if they die. I think you need to extract to collect the AM.
    >>
    >>3135660
    no
it also doesnt prevent rezing even though it really should

for real. hired ops is trash compared to how nexus used to be, 80% of the fun was making loadouts with all the cool equipment and using it in constant PvP. also the new business center map has holes in the antigrav where you routinely just jump into the void which is really annoying
    >>
Honestly they should just delete Ms. Second from the game, same issue with Marathon's little helper AI randomly chiming in at the worst times. Everyone just turns that shit off instantly.
    >>
Went a whole raid without seeing a single player until the end when I get jumped by a few Distorted, turns out one of them was a player lmao.
    >>
    >>3136679
just turn it to minimum. I like that it gives some character to the game but it can be annoying in pvp. it's not a bad concept though
    >>
    >>3138042
Does the sarcasm bar change how often she chimes in? I just turned both sets of notifs off.
    >>
    >>3138056
afaik sarcasm just increases the inane but often amusing bullshit she says
I have that turned to max but her overall talking set to minimum
new players might benefit from keeping it on though because she points out quest items, but you can manually induce that by pressing alt+K with the map open
    >>
    >>3138078
    I guess I missed a setting then.
    >>
    >>3138078
    >because she points out quest items
That's why I keep her on. I found out if you open the map and hover over her icon then it tells you specifically what's in that area. Sometimes she helps remind me "oh wait, I forgot I need distorted remains" or "here are some invisibles for your quest." Not to mention that some of her femdom-coded language e.g. "bow before your goddess" is fucking hot and keeps me motivated.
    >>
Should I be refining the anomaly biomass or do I need to keep it to get credit for the investigation?
    >>
    >>3140197
    what quest?
    >>
    >>3140239
    Halloween one
    >>
    >>3140197
you just need to extract them, but they dont give you anything when refined
    >>
anyone figure out whats with the shadow people in raid since the pumpkins were added?
    >>
    >>3141505
    >whats with the shadow people in raid since the pumpkins
    wut?
    >>
I'm gonna just do the poltergeist challenge on pve because it's already extremely annoying trying to get them to spawn and having to fight off players doing it just seems like aids.
    >>
    >>3141581
    I wouldn't worry about it
    >>
    >>3141657
where are you farming them? the only reliable spawn I know is the school in dogorsk
    >>
    >>3141789
Yeah the kindergarten is where im trying. I got 2 to spawn but somehow one fucked off even though I threw 4 frags in the room it was in. Another ended up spawning in the downstairs kitchens and I was able to magdump it.
    >>
    >>3141809
    just use the flamethrower
    >>
    >>3141825
I just bought the game like 2 days ago so I dont have access to that yet.
    >>
    >>3141835
in that case molotovs will probably be more effective than frags but whatever works works I suppose
    >>
    >>3141883
Ah yeah fair, forgot I had those
    >>
Will turning off lens flare fix some of the daytime lighting looking very blown out and bright on some of the maps? It doesn't happen all the time, just in some spots and certain times of day.
    >>
    >>3141665
spooky wonder if thats a real lore thing now or if its just for halloween
    >>
    >>3141665
Does not everyone get these? I see them pretty much on every map.
    >>
    >>3142362
Was that you I was talking with about the sunlight being blinding on Downtown?
    >>
    >>3142433
No lol, but that's funny that other people are mentioning it. It's legit hard to see sometimes.
    >>
Movement speed is so fast that it makes bolt-actions useless. And because movement speed is so fast while recoil is so high it makes killing players at range very difficult. I don't know how I feel about that.
    >>
    >>3142467
I think the real issue is weird start and stop of the sprinting. With the heavier sleeves, armor and people usually carrying a big ass sniper rifle for long range, the speed itself isnt all that fast. The issue is then the instant start and stop of sprinting and how quickly a person can turn on a dime alongside things like bunny hopping which gives it that jerky unnatural movement which makes it harder to track. it does feel sucky if youre not into that fast action and turning radius.
    >>
    >>3142467
bolt actions are really good but you have to be well positioned and patient. I think they are well balanced considering how annoying it is to be instantly killed from nowhere
    >>
    >>3142477
I dont think bunny hoping works in this game, I have never seen someone do it even in the PvP only mode
    >>
    >>3142497
