General for Kart and Arcade racing games, think Mario Kart, Sonic Crossworlds, CTR, Burnout, Blur, NFS, Ridge Racer etc.

Let's talk about cool racing games both new and old, maybe we can organize some gamenights.

    Game resources:

Here you can acquire most iso's for games that do not have a PC release

Use this website to organize game nights for /kart/

Pastebin with links to fixes or resources for various games, please make posts with stuff you'd like to see added for the next thread

if anyone wants to get into Mario Kart Wii again, it's a perfect time now. Because of the MKWii Decompiled project, you don't need a emulator to play the game anymore. I still run it through Dolphin out of habit tho. Anyway the server for MKWii online Retro Rewind has seen a big increase in popularity, and peaked at short of 700 people online https://rwfc.net/rooms

It's been like that since mkwii came out kek. Honestly tho karts aren't that bad on tighter courses with many drift opportunities since there's a third boost. It's just that you are fucked on courses with long straights where you can't wheely boost

    >It's been like that since mkwii came out kek.
I'm aware, I just had a slim hope that the faggots would let the game be fun for oh I don't know a week or so? Foolish of me, I know.

This looks like it plays like shit, and I can only imagine it has zero personality of it's own if you're playing on a Mario Kart Wii track with a CrossWorlds character.
    >>
    >>3003973
Nah it's made for time trialing which I find boring. The cc people play online is too fast.

The game controls extremely well but I get what you mean. Since it's entire point is having a steam workshop obviously most people will import known tracks and characters, there's thousands of random stuff in there too, copyrighted and original.

    >>3004444
Checked, whenever I play online I never use items, I just like testing my driving skill against people which is basically multiplayer solitaire time trials, but I know it's almost nobody's cup of tea lol

It looks kinda boring. To me it seems like the same issue i had with the latest Hot Wheels games by Milestone where the driving is fine, but it lacks powerups to shake up the gameplay. Also the stages in the Star Wars games look very samey

I have it, but I don't care for it unless I'm playing with a crowd that's exactly around my skill level. The need to constantly and consistently get perfect boosts in order to keep cranking max speed instead of just getting a boost in the moment is a real nutbuster in so many different ways.

Spiritually and mechanically it feels like I wouldn't call it a Kart racer. More like a Rhythm Stunt Racer or something, I dunno. Overall, I just feel like SRB2K and Ring Racists hit better balances of being skill intensive but still ultimately being Kart games.

Am I missing something with CrossWorlds or does it just feel sooooooo slooooooooow to other people as well. I wanna like it because it has the pieces of something I'd be interested in, but I completely bounced off the free weekend.

Just dunno if that's because you get put in doodoo low speed when low ranked or something until you get enough upgrades or rank ups or some shit

    >Am I missing something with CrossWorlds or does it just feel sooooooo slooooooooow
hmm to me it feels kinda similar to 150cc in mkwii. Maybe slightly slower. It is quite a bit more of a "unskilled" game in online, with how few and rare counters are + item boxes instantly refresh.

Might check it out, since I got MK8D installed on an emulator to play with my nephew when he comes over, and it's got me in a bit of a mood for some Mario Kart.

I'm just worried about >>2966269 because I SWEAR I saw a video about MKW:RR a while back that specifically said it addressed the issue of everyone picking the same meta karts or playing too seriously
    >>
    >>3120879
retro rewind does tweak a few things to make karts a little bit closer in viability (they can now get purple mini turbos, and hybrid drift makes them more easily steerable when not drifting), but i wouldn't get your hopes up for them being as good as bikes, because they're still not

they're at least playable though, you can still win races with a kart unless the room is just all giga sweatlords
    >>
getting into decent vr my resentment for bikes has actually grown significant

playing a whole race taking almost perfect lines and no item fuckups only to come in middle pack anwyay because they're just born better is tilting as fuck

So Crossworlds is getting plagued with cheaters right now, spamming King Boom Boos and Slimes and Warp Rings and shit. Top rank is this guy whose been doing it. Seems they're using hacked Switch 1 consoles to do it.
Dunno what it would take for Sega to fix it but the rest of the LC is probably fucked for anyone who still wants to play it. Reminds me of trying to play Mario Kart ds back in the day kek. It'll suck if this is still going on by the Year 2 update

Whats the /kart/ consensus on it? I haven't really played anymore ever since people reported the RyuNET potential vulnerabilities to RCE scripts.
    >>
    >>3135863
    >Whats the /kart/ consensus on it?
    It's good
Performance is great and runs at a consistent 60fps+
Physics isn't buggy and everything behaves like it does on console
Loading times are better than console, and the recent update just lowered them by a couple secs more
Mod potential is great, already have mods for reserve meter, characters (in new slots, not replacements), and tracks

Improved online features like being able to do itemless races and online cups is great (we need custom cups with a custom amount of races though)

Surprising how good it is, infinitely better than OG CTR's Turbo Charged which is buggy and has inaccurate physics even though that's also vibeslopped
Assuming it doesn't implode, the future of NF is bright, we finally got our PC port
I only wish OG CTR had all the focus for a PC port instead of people making mods for the PS1 original running through duckstation since those mods are currently limited to being replacements instead of continually adding stuff that a PC port would allow

No idea how online private lobbies work in OCTRNF, its got the friends system but idk how you add people or make private rooms to inv people

Activision is gonna fuck it into oblivion relatively soon.
Enjoy the fun while you can, anon. Nothing lasts.
    >>
    >>3138325
Literally nothing is gonna happen kek
Activision's owned by MS, so if they wanted to take something down, they have to take it up with them, and I can't remember MS nuking large fan projects, and then there's the fact that out of all the possible IPs they own, it'd be Crash, which isn't in a good nor highly profitable state compared to other IPs atm.

No other Crash projects have been nuked, and if any of them would be, it'd be the most profitable game which's NST, and NST has been getting modded for years with nothing happening

Even if the NF project got nuked, it's open source and the entire codebase is right there, someone else will reupload it, and now the corporation has to deal with the hydra problem
There's also nothing stopping anyone else from making their own separate version from the ground up

Corpos can't stop it, there's no closing pandora's box
    >>
    >>3138509
They can absolutely nuke the servers, the githubs were never an issue and cannot be deleted exactly because of the hydra problem.
    >>
    >>3138509
    >and I can't remember MS nuking large fan projects
My favorite bit of trivia is that Microsoft actually has a long-standing fanworks license.

Basically, as long as the thing you're trying to make
    >doesn't make you any money, donations included
    >doesn't have NSFW material
    >doesn't actively promote hateful stances n' shit
    >isn't trying to masquerade as an official release
    >doesn't reverse engineer the game to access assets to create a new item
then you're completely free to make whatever you want that they've published or otherwise have the rights to. That's why Wolves is able to exist as a fangame for MechAssault, because while the vidya license for Battletech is all over the place, Microsoft did at least that game

In any case, the last pip is the thing of main concern, as as this would likely fall under some form of unapproved repurposing of existing assets if they wanted to, but Microsoft has historically not given too much of a shit about that. Look at how El Dewrito rejiggered Halo Online into a PC Halo 3 clone, and the dev team was just politely asked to put a pause on the project while MCC came out, and were even invited to work on it (one dev claims they were never pulled in, but according to other team members, he appears to be a known liar). There's a reason El Dewrito 0.7 came out since then and hasn't been taken down despite now including the files and also having support for campaign and firefight (if you're able to supply the required mods)

They're only likely to intervene if it ends up being dangerous with its vulnerabilities

    >Corpos can't stop it, there's no closing pandora's box
    ew, shill talk
    >>
    >>3088191
Having to play 46 games to unlock all your gadget slots was a retarded design choice that makes for an awful initial impression. I almost skipped the game off the demo experience.

Online defaults to the 150cc equivalent, 100cc for festivals. I'd agree with the other anon that game speed matches MKWii pretty well, with the asterisk that there's a lot of convoluted under-the-hood mechanics that are both never explained and change between speeds and vehicle types. A big one being that boost wisps and trucks share a speed cap with drift boosts, air tricks, and dash panels, making them feel awful compared to MK mushrooms and usually only being good for shortcuts or defense.
