I know we're shitposting tonight but I want to talk about the game some more.I finally unlocked the Drifting Reliquary and I'm beginning to see why they did karma shards the way they did. Or well, I still find the system baffling in some ways, but I understand why the supply of shards has to be limited with the way the current system works.It really has nothing to do with merging, which is a nothingburger. Who cares if you give Yang Jie 10 extra defense after grinding him in armor knight in one path. Plus you can already do that by just recruiting Yang Jie in the same path, training him in different class lines, and getting a free merge at the end of Part 2.The real issue is that karma shards can be exchanged for infinite copies of items and materials you've ever obtained. So if karma shards were free or similar to the Ancient Well in Engage, you would be able to buy like 10 duplicates of Dagda's Club or 20 Levin Swords or infinite Blue Snoll or whatever. Which would obviously be dumb and would trivialize the game.Now the counterargument is that karma shards should not be exchangeable for infinite goods in the first place...which is kind of my position. But then, I don't even know what they'd be good for. Causality merging is, again, a nothingburger. Not much else to do except buy horses and items you want to save yourself time farming in Part 3.I'm interested in seeing how the DLC will impact these systems though.
