The chapters felt a bit goofy (and rushed) but I don't get the steaks complaints. Lots of Nikkes still got fucked (even if they will get better). From a narrative standpoint all the previous chapters gathering allies and solving issues (plus a hundred years of suffering) were as a setup for a big victory over the Queen. No need to taint it with "we barely made it and we lost a lot of good people".
