Wesley returns to Ughato, the swampy !Free Refined Metal! asteroid to recover gold from the volcano that's been collecting for hundreds of cycles. Unfortunately, this poor neglected asteroid has been BLASTED TO BITS and INFESTED. But this time Wesley did not come alone, he brought a friend... an artificial friend named Rover. His primary mission, clearing the landing pad so the rocket can land, is already complete. Wesley will deal with that suspicious swarm of AMORBI, being the third infestation on this asteroid. (We've just counted them with a critter sensor: there are 148 of them. A perf mod may be saving my bacon.) Meanwhile, Rover shall dunk the gold somewhere to chill.>>585798474Partitioned Storage, Reborn is hereby REJECTED for taking TWENTY-FOUR SECONDS to open the screen EACH TIME.I will probably uninstall the shine bug lamp mod; it's just a shinebug reactor encapsulator and I'm not into shinebug reactors.
what's a good "time at full output" target for batteries when playing null? 20 min?
>already getting bored of transport fever 3It was fun until I realized the entire game is basically clicking point A and point B and choosing the best vehicle (trains). Once you have a good rail/tram set up (early 1900s) there's literally no reason to use anything else.

>>586093426I may be too stupid for that game, and maybe TF3 too lmao. I really do like TF3 it's just when I look at the whole map and see everything everybody needs it's so overwhelming and I can't even know where to start. I guess it makes sense now that I'm typing it out I should focus on my capital, get them as set as possible and move onto the next largest, closest town. This is only my 2nd proper attempt so I'm still learning, and doing alright but it's still a bit overwhelming.I think I way over extended myself this run, I got rails everywhere, which will need to be rebuilt eventually, I got tram lines in nearly every city and I got supplies going pretty much all over the place too. What's crazy is I feel like I'm already deep in the game but if you look at the year....1908.... so I've not even scratched the surface. I really want to set up some cargo lines with the MD-11, sit behind the wheel of a semi on the freeway and watch the scenery scream by in a Shinkansen but that feels so far off. I'm half debating restarting the run, despite it going so well becasue I've just over extended so much (or so I feel). Thanks for asking reading my blog

>>586031046>>586036479am I suppose to mall these buildings or not? Please tell me. It seems like massive headache to automate steel which I need for forestry to automate wood for automation science >.<
>>586106771Unlike normal Factorio, or hell even shit like Nullius, Py needs a lot different buildings. A LOT of different buildings. These buildings also take a lot of resources and a lot of different resources.I think you should automate all the complicated parts for buildings rather than the buildings themselves.
Nothing about a mall implies it all has to be in the same place. I love sticking assemblers for buildings whereever they happen to fit and be convenient. After you get bots your assemblers for misc things can be basically anywhere, really.
>>586106771seconding "don't automate buildings themselves"They're very expensive and you need most of them in small numbers. it's like automating rocket silos except everything

>>586106771Especially early on, automating almost any buildings in Py is a fool's errand. There are dozens of buildings you will craft single-digit numbers of over a hundred hours of playtime. I'd say it's worth automating steam engines, stone furnaces, and burner mining drills, as those are used in many very basic buildings, many of which are also used in more advanced buildings. E.g. I have crafted nearly 2k steam engines on my 113 hour save that's working towards py science 2, and maybe 20 of those are placed in the world. The others have gone into crafting other buildings.I think you could probably make an argument for automating things like fluid mining drills, destructive distillation columns, and soil extractors (I've crafted upwards of 50 of each of those), but anything more advanced than that is going to be a waste.
Anyone else swear they hear "entity broken" sounds even when the game is paused?
>>586121429I found it worthwhile to forgo the usual factorio design of putting fuel and ore on the same belt for furnaces, since for basic smelting like that you have 2 inputs and 2 outputs. Inputs go on the inner side of each belt, and outputs go on the outer side. This means the fuel shares a belt with the ash and the plates with the ore, of course, which seems weird by normal factorio standards, but it helps simplify things considerably. As far as burner mining goes, I keep the fuel/ash belt, and just run one fuel/ash belt per row of drills. Ore goes on a dedicated output belt. Takes up slightly more space, but is much less of a headache to work with.

>>586202430That was so long ago and I lost my save but I think it was counting the total steam in the system and would only insert fuel below a certain steam thresholdWhen the reactor would restart, the steam would go above the threshold and prevent more fuel from being inserted.

I picked up Factorio earlier this week. I did the tutorial and enjoyed it. It took me a while particularly last mission with rail introduction. I would guess just on that last mission it probably took me 12-14 hours to get things sorted out. I'm pretty dumb so whatever but I liked it.Doing my first free play with no settings adjusted. I'm trying to see how far I can get before I need to watch any videos on how to do some things. Anyways here's where I'm at. About to get my military science feeding into the labs. Need to figure out rail signals so I can role a coal train with my iron train.
>>586303785very cute, keep it up
weird idea I had: factorio but slime mold. The blue cell is the engineer basically, and it places little building spores for miners and assemblers that attach to the ore patches. belts are mycelia/vascular system that push the items around and cells put things on/off as it goes. they also grow automatically if they overflow/die out if they run out of food, same as the buildings. The purple buildings are labs so the science assemblers count as research. The player blue cell is actually in the simulation too, so it does the equivalent of handcrafting before it automates the assembly of stuff, and does like chemotaxis/sensing to roughly plan out what it does.Still a lot of ideas to add, but I like how organic it looks while still being the basic coal/iron/copper/gears red science setup.
>>586306078how'd you make this?
>>586303785Avoid bidirectonal single lane trains when starting out. I've seen dozens of posts from new anons trying to figure out how to shove four trains on a single track and getting frustrated. Doing a set of parallel tracks is easier to wrap your head around imo. Other than that just give yourself plenty of space to build and don't be afraid of moving a bit off screen to build new stuff. As long as you get your belts from A->B it doesn't matter how tangled it looks.
>>586306265uh, with wgpu it's 100% slop . I started out with implementing https://developmentalsystems.org/Exploring-Flow-Lenia-Universes/ which is also pretty cool, but wanted something more factorioish scale where the CA rules don't have to invent like pure motion from scratch. Lagrangian instead of eulerian, essentially. The hyperparameters of the simulation like recipe ratios and crafting rates are also black-box optimized/evolved to be roughly factorio scale, which is sort of neat. I want to add in-simulation evolution too, so instead of the 'lab' building just magically turning science packs into new research, it could be a literal lab zone where you pump in resources to run breeding/recombination/mutation until it spits out new recipes 'organically'. Could also do PvP, or basically evolution/competition at the 'engineer cell' level, see who finds the most OP strats to grow.
