The issue with the way the CG is being written currently has less to do with the CG being flawed, and more to do with the CG being flawed but also we've just decided that it's not worth exploring those flaws and now you have to take the story at face value that the CG is objectively good. It's narrative whiplash that feels kind of lazy and dismissive of what's been set up prior.This issue isn't exclusive to the CG, SU often struggles with writing nuance so characters and factions will often just, over time, slide into the "objectively good" or "objectively bad" pile when there's nuance involved. Eden, taking the first chapter they show up in at face value, are a bunch of unhinged sociopaths but this behavior is never really addressed again, nor does it inform any future interactions with the faction. The story will flirt with the idea that Johan might have flaws, but this is never properly addressed and it doesn't actually matter.
