You waited too long, now you're never going to get your HOTAS unless you pay twice as much and wait twice as long for the Lithuania one. Now empty your bank account, and pray the US doesn't provoke Putin in the meantime.
>>
>>584588728
the pylons on either wingtip of an f80 could carry bombs or tip tanks. it's not really like a "we should put the bombs here" thing, it was more like a "we could theoretically put bombs here"
the manual notes that if you do stick bombs there, it's going to roll like a brick until you drop them. you're mostly supposed to fly it like a bomber until you drop the bombs

The controls are buttery smooth. The sound design is cash. The plane choices are endless. The community is tight as a near-18 year old. The mere suffering of it all, the packet losses, the third party missles, the braindead blues. It makes you wanna end it all, but if you know your aircraft and your enemy and you encounter one bird out there who knows the same, if you come out on top in that dance in a moment of pure victory... There's nothing like it on the market.
It sucks, and it is fantastic.

i've shelved the stealth fishbed for now since i pretty much got it perfect on the first try. it goes mach 1.8 at sea level and mach 3 at 11km, has a radar cross section smaller than an F-35, has two internal 25mm cannons because a fishbed should shoot bullets, and is capable of BVR combat at over 90km and i designed that 90km missile platform for it as well. for being my first plane in Flyout it went pretty well, but jets are easier than props
so naturally my second plane will be a GIGA C-130. 34 meters like the stretched variant... but i want it to be VTOL capable to complement the C-130's current abilities. that will be fun and let me fug around with props and variable surfaces

in the cockpit tablet there was the edit panel section, I thought it would be like the usual stuff of swapping a garmin for a non gps module, but as soon as I touched one of those it slipped behind the panel itself, I tried reloading the 0 preset which I thought would be the base version, but due to them not even properly coding the "hit zones" for buttons it instead overwrote it leaving me with that.

They have the galls to ask 50$ for something in such a state, not to mention they brag about 8k texture yet it looks worse than the freeware modules for xp10. >>
People on the MSFS forums are such drama queens, they're mostly console users complaining about bugs and there's tonnes of 'This is the worst game EVER I'm never playing it again!!!!' posts.
>>
>>585378842
Yeah, don't forget also the
Random user : "I'm asking out of the blue for something to be changed in this module"
Dev : "sorry, this is not planned."
User : "This is SUCH as disrespect for the community, developers should cater to the users, I will never buy any of your modules and nobody else should".

Though compared with AVSIM, the MSFS forum feels like a heaven of courtesy and friendliness.

Patch notes and seeing what bugs people are moaning about, sometimes they're legitimate. SU7.1 is out but doesn't appear to include a fix for the ground effect bug for instance. Unlike the people on the forums though I'm not going to shit myself over it.

Huh, I feel like I haven't run into all that many bugs personally. Just the odd goofy thing you expect from so much auto generated stuff like a city bus driving across a runway while I am on short final or some background plane that spawned on the ramp slowly spinning in circles upsidedown with a forklift attached to it. But like, the game crashing or the flight model going insane while I am flying, not so much. Maybe the console port is more iffy?

Not bad for a start. If everything works, you're set. The stick is lacking in inputs if you want to fly modern shit. But then again, some people manage to play on a fucking controller so heh.
>>
>>585546228
The stick has Hall sensors on the X and Y, only the Z axis doesn't so it is guaranteed to die eventually. If you can find some cheap pedals to go with that, then that setup will last you for years.
You might have to add a modifier button or two for modern jets, but it's not a big deal.

Sounds like the rubber is decomposing. I'd either peel it off and stick some tape or silicone sealant in it's place, or just tape right over it. Maybe try hitting it with some acetone on a rag first to see if that removes the sticks part, just be careful because the acetone can haze the plastic.

If you want to fly around then MSFS2024.
If you want to fight and you're a huge nerd with lot of time and money then DCS, else some version of Il-2 if you prefer it realistic, or Nuclear Option if you don't and only want the fun part.

DCS has a couple free airplanes and map and also a generous try before buy system so you can start there and see if that's your thing before shelling hard dough on sim.

I'm speaking mainly from a milsim point of reference, I never really bothered with the civ stuff. I'm also assuming you don't have much in the way of gear.

Despite being old, IL-2 1946 is still a really great game and perfect to start with if you're just getting into sims. It isn't DCS levels of fidelity in terms of flight models and systems/engine management, but still feels pretty 'hands on' depending what difficulty settings you run. It *can* be played via keyboard but I would recommend a joystick. It's simple enough at least that you don't need a sim rig full of buttons, I played it for years on a cheap thrustmaster Hotas X.
I'd say the main draw of 1946 is the amount of content and the singleplayer experience, especially once you get into the modding scene for it. A lot more theaters of WW2 are included compared to IL-2 Great Battles; western/eastern front, Mediterranean, Pacific, etc. gives you a wide range of terrain and aircraft to play with, if not necessarily super in depth

the hard part is just learning how the game infrastructure works. they're developers, they presumably know how to write code. since they make functioning maps and have worked with the game for a long time i'm also assuming they're familiar with the engine
if you're familiar with the engine it's simply a matter of learning how the plane works so you can accurately write it into the game
it's not like making modules for DCS is too difficult in complexity for developers, it's that it's usually more labor than it's worth. they're expensive to develop because they take time and they're niche so the return isn't guaranteed, devs don't want to take the risk or waste the time
>>
>>585386801

I promise you he was right on the rudders helping you out bro, gotta trust your instructor is not going to let you kill yourself. Presumably he also does not want to die right? In fact, he doesn't even want you to damage the airplane as that goes on HIS license not yours.
>>585730082
I did on mine, also in a cub. Those things practically land themselves apart from the usual tailwheel keep it straight when on the ground bit. Best glide is just trim full back power idle and let it float down. And then to do a nice three point just try to keep it in the air in the ground effect and when the airplane is done flying it just lands.

Anyway, don't feel bad, my first 10 hours or so it felt like it took 100% brain power just to not die.
>>
>>585730631
>the usual tailwheel keep it straight when on the ground bit
What is the trick to dealing with that? It feels like even small amounts of rudder lead to losing control. Is it just about making sure you're straight on approach so you don't have to use the rudder after touching down?
>>
>>585730884
Literally just getting the reps in, it's all feel. Sims don't help, they are great for navigation and systems training and stuff like that but they don't feel anything like a real airplane close to the ground. I remember overcorrecting a lot at first, and then I would undercorrect a lot and my instructor would wait until we were way the heck off centerline about to go off the runway before fixing me haha. I also switched to Citabria after the Cub went down for maintenance at my school which is a more touchy airplane but I still figured it out eventually. Soloed at 30 hours. The main thing I can recommend I guess is go practice at an airport with a ginormous runway so you can do touch-and-gos and get a buttload of reps in each flight. It's good to do some at small runways to not be afraid of them but taxiing back every time takes way too long. If you go when it is not busy ask your instructor to do fast taxiing too, that's where you punch it like you're going to take off until your tail comes up and then throttle back and fly just the tail with your main wheels still on the ground the entire length of the runway.
>>
The Shittna 172 is coming on well, put still gets two hot even with four gigantic radiators, it needs more tweaking.
>>
>>585727383
>I don't know how flight schools do introduction but I got none, just straight into the fucking cockpit
When I went on a sightseeing flight on a 152 and told the pilot I simmed he let me take off (went left a bit because I didn't use enough right rudder at first) but he had me check only the speed, he monitored everything else. You got a spartan teacher maybe.
>>
>>585730884
Oh and uh, you do use the rudder after touching down. In a tailwheel you are pretty much always flying the tail to some extent.
>>
>>585732095
Maybe I'm just using too much and overcorrecting
>>
>>585732157
Just keep at it. If you can afford it and are not doing it at the moment I highly recommend trying to fly three times a week. It will probably work out to be about twice a week due to weather and scheduling conflicts most of the time if you do this. It really helps in not having to re-learn a bunch of stuff over again if you can fly frequently. Once a week can get really rough because if weather cancels your flight well now it has been two weeks since you last flew. Feels impossible at first but eventually it just becomes second nature like riding a bike. I do not regret my decision to do private in tailwheels, a little steeper learning curve perhaps but everyone says it makes you a better pilot at the end of the day. Besides, once you are comfy with the plane you can do fun stuff that you can't do in a Cessna 150.
>>

I'll try to get it on sale or something since I always see them go fairly cheap. I never got it since I never had equipment to play flight sims. I love the setting and will prob help learn since it's a slower pace
>>
>>585842947
You're not supposed to use the pedals to steer, only to counter slip when turning (that ball thing moving to the side) and to keep aligned with the runway for take off and landing.

Trying to maintain a steady aim on a a flying machine is like formation flight, which is known for being challenging even for competent pilots. Learn to fly with the minimum of inputs, the more you'll try to correct the more you'll be all over the place.

Bullets are in very limited supply inside a jet and you should only shoot short burst at very close range when you're sure you won't miss. Also remember to keep some ammo to defend yourself.

Have fun.
(Yeah, I know, there were no F-100 in Korea)

Wanna get DCS at one point but I don't have 3,500 for the full game lol. All for supporting a game like that, but I don't think that's even possible. I'm wondering how to approach that game, both as far as what to buy goes and I'm also curious how long it takes to learn how to play the game both in a general sense, and to learn how to fly individual planes, as well as the set up I should have, like if I need a flight stick and such. Also heard there are planes you can no longer get. Is that really true?

You don't need to buy them all, but you will eventually if the sim bug really gets you.
You can spend a few hundred to low thousands of hours just learning the basics of flight, see picrel. That's your baseline.
Since you fight other people who are actually competent at flying airplanes, you'll also be spending hundreds of hours practicing the basic maneuvers and energy management techniques you need to survive getting shot at.
You're looking at more brute-force practice to nail precision flight skills than in civ sims, especially if you get into carriers, refueling, or night ops.
You'll also need to download a bunch of contextual information directly into your head about weapons, military systems, tactics, strategy, and the overall combat environment, assuming you have no prior background.
You can grind all of this skill and knowledge out for free in the basic TF-51, Su-25T, and free A-4E mod, but most people are weak and fall for shiny new cockpits instead of putting the time in with what they have.
You can buy every module, but you can't buy skill.

Not him but for the amount I personally spent on it I could have got a way more complete experience in XP12 or even MSFS24. DCS lacks a lot of things and its quite restrictive. The military stuff ended up being a liability in the long term.
>>
>>585907730
I agree with this, if you spent that much in X Plane or MSFS you could have tonnes of planes, tonnes of airports, city improvements, weather addons, career addons, ground services and who knows what else. In DCS you just have planes and a few maps. Not to say DCS is bad, but I'm not sure that's a good investment, it sounds like spending money for the sake of it, 'I must have [other plane]!'.

I've been playing DCS for years, thinking that why would I need civ plane simulator. I have jets, can do patterns, can do everything. I now rarely touch dcs, and use it mostly for helis, because it is superior for them, but I mostly fly MSFS. I have corrected my approach to DCS and instead using it for some epic ground/air battles I've started using it mostly for training and designing some training missions, imitating those from real life. Most fun I've had was on some SAR server with helis, where there were auto generated missions for picking up civilians and transporting resources. Too bad that server died.

You don't believe the superior fidelity in aircraft systems is worth it in the end ?

I'm genuinely curious because I've started learning the F1 in DCS, and while I enjoy flying it I'm realizing I'm more interested in navigation and perfecting landings than blowing up stuff.
>>
>>585909840
Whenever I feel an "I must have [other plane]!" I go download it for FSX where there is a basically infinite supply of free planes then get cured of it after shitting around for awhile.
>>
>>585912438
The fidelity is amazing, you could buy one plane and study it for the next 5 years if you wanted to, which is even more reason to not spend $1200 on getting all of the planes.
>>
>>585905453
I entered thinking it would be a military aviation sim and instead it's a lackluster sandbox where 90% of the stuff isn't really simulated nor working, they expect you to spend months in the mission editor to do anything, and even if you do it's enough for a trigger to not work properly and you have to restart the entire mission.
DCS is turning into a pyramid scheme where ED can only keep making money by shitting out half assed modules and terrains and roping other developers in doing the same then abandoning them to make yet another module as actually finishing and improving "old" modules doesn't bring them any money.
If you have a plane you're so obsessed about you'd be fine just flying it over and over without doing much of anything else, and you're lucky enough for someone to actually release a study level module (I've yet to actually see a true study level dcs module) then go ahead, but you should enter DCS knowing it's mostly a scam.
>>
>>585914562
Yeah, ED should focus on some core elements instead shitting out new planes, which are mostly in EA anyway. Dynamic campaign has been developed for so long that it has become a meme at that point. Besides, there are many things missing from core, like actually passable AI, ATC, weather . You really have to sit down in the mission editor and create something for yourself and mission editor is sometimes so annoying and janky. I think that they will never touch it, because it's hard to monetize it instantly, like selling those modules that are in eternal EA.
>>
>>585915396
Everything is EA now, the amount of games I have wish listed and then they all fucking 'release' in early access drives me mad.
>>
>>585915490
Yeah I don't understand it. Meanwhile in MSFS single developer like Black Square delivers plane that is a finished product and needs some minor touches in the update.

>But anon, MIG-29 has so many systems to develop. We have to develop it for the next century to grant you the best possible experience.
>Proceeds to slow down with development of siad module because they need to shit out another EA module with the same philosophy.
>Neglects everything but the EA modules which are being neglected over time because they need to deploy another EA module.
>Memory leak? We will fix it in the next 2-3 years

Meanwhile whales are showering them with money and thanking them for existing.
>>
>>585916215
I don't understand how Black Square is a single developer, he must have giga-autism to pump out study-level planes on his own. I also don't understand DCS addon devs, everything is in early access and takes years to finish.

>>585965043
There are load of ship simulators in development/early access at the moment, for some reason they've had a resurgence. There are also people now using MSFS 2024 as a ship sim.

Based, I traded my GTX750 for a 5070 at the start of the year. Had to get a new PSU too.
Worth every cent

i wont even think of buying a single thing out of Erectil Disfunctioners again until they have the decency to start making an official campaing for the MIG-29FF. Is not even a matter of money, time or manpower. They just don't care. "Early Access" is the "fuck you, pay me" nowadays

you dont need more. maybe upgrade after a year of flight-simming. Its the lurk-more of the sim gear kits.

Now that's a good looking cockpit. Feel free to write a quick review when you have an opinion on the module.
>>
>>586003447
The only issue I see with something like that is that you can't just upgrade piece by piece, you can you replace the stick and throttle at the same time.
Plus, ballcrusher pedals.

I had terribly performance with Flightgear. XP11 ran way better on my old PC.

Winwing has its own stecs sized throttle now, $300 for hotas (no pedals). It's not really pocket change but compared against the number of inputs of a $80 ps5 controller it makes some sense for the components
>>
>>584789186
i got a thrustmaster t16000 and throttle from a goodwill auction for $50
not as good as good brands but $50 is better than $1000. if you've never tried a stick before maybe look secondhand first. can always upgrade in the future
