Why do all DnD games take place in a tiny 1% of the map?
>>750743863Because it's a dogshit kitchen sink setting only used by people who refuse to inspect anythingIf you had the resolve to change anything from the factory default and read new books you would quickly discover thousands of reasons not to play dnd
>>750743863This map is outdated, I'm certain Maztica got replaced by whatever the dragonborn continent is.
>>750743863Its the only consistently developed part of the map, and where most non homebrew tabletop campaigns take place in (most settings are homebrew anyways)Nobody has time for Tabaxiland.
Because the new writers can't handle the 'lance
>>750744009>What if northern desert and southern glacierDaring writers.
>>750743863Normies only want generic shit, seeing something they haven't before makes them confused and upset.
>>750743863I like how the map is just Earth but with the continents slightly changed
those ancient goldbox D&D games and D&D novels used a lot more varied locations across Faerun.they really din't wanna keep using Faerun because they made new campaign settings but the players all thought the new game campaign settings SUCKED
>>750743863what goes on in tabaxiland?
>>750743863>ossethere's literally australia in forgotten realms
>>750744036>South Pole doesn’t exist
>>750744036Well, yes, that's how southern hemispheres work. It's just one continent of the world.
>>750743863Same reason half of that map has no features at all.
>>750743863Its a rich setting but its only popular because of Bioware and their games were all set in the same coastal region and also comprise the majority of modern Forgotten Realms games. If you look at older, pre-Bioware titles you'll see your entire premise is incorrect, and most of the legacy games were set around the Moonsea region instead.
>>750743863Because that 1% of the map contains everything any fantasy could possibly offer from barbarian lands to bronze age culture, generic medieval fantasy, renaissance and early industrial societies to hidden even hidden away sci-fi and isekai shitThat 1% is the drain of a kitchen sink in which the dirt of every fantasy story ever written circles around
>>750743935Hi "have you tried not playing dnd" spammer. Enjoying your vacation from /tg/, you obsessed faggot?
>>750744904>seething this hard about someone not liking the mainstream popular thingGo back.
>>750743863why is it so hard to make fictional maps not based off earth
The sea of fallen stars not being connected to the ocean annoys the fuck out of me, especially since theres a million rivers that could just shift a couple miles to make it possible.Anyway the larger D&D world is a generic kitchen sink setting full of cliches and knockoffs of real world races and cultures. The only interesting parts of the world are either tiny areas like city states and small kingdoms or unmappable like the underdark. Creating a giant map depicting exactly how annoying and tedious(very) it is to travel between locations of note was pointless and only makes DMing harder. Maps should be limited to provinces, and their relative locations should be left vague so whoever is writing at the time can make up whatever he must for the plot.
Step aside.
>>750743863because you don't need to explore the entire map to have a complete journey.
>>750747112Ok so I get that they set off first by the smoothest route but wouldn't it have made more sense to even if through rough terrain first go to the nearest port and take that to gondor
>>750747215pirates or something idk
>>750747112How did the mountains form a perfect rectangle shape?
>>750744904Different guyAlso not currently banned from any of the boardsIt's just not a good ttrpg
I cannot even fathom using any lazy ass default setting for a D&D game, same with Pathfinder. FR was just Greyhawk but everyday life is higher magic, whoopdie-do.At least go to Mechanus or something, christ.
>>750747215The path they took was probably for sick magic items and equipment, they didn't know the dwarves were dead
>>750744125Tabaxiplasmosis
>>750743863that 1% is fucking huge, the scale is ridiculous
>>750747940tectonic movement over millions of years
>game unironically takes place on 1% of the map>and so does the entire source material
>>750744834I doubt that. Even human history, as limited as it is by reality and other constraints, has so much variety that 99.99% of fantasy media doesn't explore because it's predominately focused on European, Near Eastern, and East Asian influences only. Shit like pic related is more fantastical then most actual fantasy cities partially as a result of that. Does the main D&D continent actually leverage influences from different parts of South and Southeast Asia, Africa, North and South America, Islander cultures etc? Even if it does I doubt it does so well.To say nothing of how fantasy could go in an infinite number of additional directions by being fiction, and by using different combinations of influences. Saying there's no point or potential in adding more locations just shows you're not being creative.

>>750747215>t. Boromir
I'm just more amazed WOTC haven't raped the settings of Greyhawk, Eberron and Mystara. I never imagined they somehow raped Ravenloft and Dark Sun.
>>750750515Notice how those settings you're allowed to mess with as a 3rd party are way more fucked than forbidden ones like Mystara or Dragonlance.
>>750747215They didn't know they were going to Mordor right away, the initial objective was just to hold council in Rivendell to decide what to actually do.
>>750743863It is a phenomenon for lore to cause everything to be concentrated on to a single focal point. It also winds up looking like history is nothing but endless chaos in said focal points.Like Myrmidune? Just Greek Dune or something.
>>750751137Colonial mindset. A single 200kmX200km region in Europe has way more chaotic history than any place in Anglo America/Oceania or Latin America. You guys just joined the game late.
>>750747112>Frodo goes on a journey>never visits the city of Frodo's Journey
>>750743863Because they were…forgotten :D
>>750751219>American history doesn't count because... it just HECKIN' doesn't, okay?!>Americans don't have any culture anyway, heh... he says while American culture permeates through every facet of his country
>>750744904Why do you so desperately want to die on this hill of all hills?
>>750751614American history is 500 years old. The natives only had prehistory except for Mayans (1000 years of writing) and Aztects (200 years of writing). The closest thing American Indians came to nation building was with Mississippi Culture and Europe by that time was in Medieval period. We just have 2000 extra years of lore.
>>750747940The earth has autism
>>750743863Because D&D is full of retarded faggots>The [Western/Southern/Eastern] [Sea/Ocean]Genuine retards man
>>750747215But what if the eagles can't swim
>>750743863Because D&D is just a boring setting that revolves entirely around the Waterdeep area and specific part of the Underdarkthey are not interested in the worldbuilding they are interested in selling a dozen new cyano-quasi-demi-elves witha minor feat adjustment so everyone can be the baby yoda they want to be (provided he lives in fantasy NYC)
>>750751614give us the QRD on the deep and interesting lore of Nebraska
>>750749396>author dies in WWI before he can expand on the map
>>750743942I think that got reversed when 5th ed came in.
