If you find the horrors so comprehensible then try explaining them to the rest of us.
    What? You can't? You're a fraud.

That's because, by definition, we cannot create anything that is truly incomprehensible. That is why every "incomprehensible" monster in our works of fiction are actually very comprehensible. If they weren't, we wouldn't have been able to even create it.

40% of Nobel winners in thermodynamics killed themselves or went insane. I always think of that as the real life necronomican.

    >>750740532
See how it works is you don't get how it's supposed to be incomprehensible so you're not comprehending it.

One time I dreamt I was in the Lovecraftian museum and I immediately went to check out the exhibit for the "inhuman tiara" but when I got there it was clearly a mislabelled exhibit cause there was jjust this wagon wheel thing there. What bothers me the most is that I didn't stop to look at all the other cool exhibits I passed on the way there because I was deadset on this tiara thing.

    alas.
    >>
    >>750743139
To be fair to Dream (You), an Inhuman Tiara sounds rad. Can't blame him for focusing it down.

no sometimes it flows directly into reality from dreamland. One time I closed my eyes in the dream and opened them into the real world. One time I dreamt a woman was sleeping with her hand resting on my chest and I woke up and the hand was still there. It was just my own hand but my hand was still asleep so I wasn't receiving any sensation from it so it felt like someone else's hand.

One time I fought off the dream monster on my chest and I pushed it off my chest with all my strength and the effort had me break the dream barrier and I woke up pushing thin air. It only felt so heavy because what I was fighting against was like my own bones or something you get paralyzed at night.
    >>
    >>750744863
That is textbook sleep paralysis. Your mind woke before your body.

    >>750744930

    >reader, so this monster was so incomprehensible in it's horror that describing it to you would be an utterly pointless endeavor which would drive me mad, MAD I tell you, so I leave it up for your imagination to imagine it, which is impossible btw because it is so incomprehensible in it's nature, but try, reader, TRY and imagine the HORROR, oh if only you could

It's a pretty creepy mental image desu
Uncanny humanoids are generally much scarier than the outright monstrous. Like how the ghosts in Silent Hill 4 so much more unsettling than every other monster in the series.
    >>
Lovecraft monsters are just “what if the concept of xenophobia was a creature.”
    >>
    >>750746983
It's a great concept rooted in truth, which is why his works are immortal.
    >>
    >>750740532
The only horror is that toxo in the image, spreading a parasite and murdering innocent creatures.
    >>
    >>750746983
You're thinking of the Alien movies.

    no that's xenophilia
often the two sides of the same coin though so maybe you're not far off
    >>
    >>750745065
Yeah but it works and it is scary and cool, and almost always better than trying to explain a creature you want to be scary for every reader. No amount of irony poisoning will change that.

Isn't the scary part supposed to be everybody going insane from looking at it and knowing that no matter what you will also go insane?
Just because the viewer doesn't go insane upon seeingbtge creature, its still the danger in the fiction. Helplessness.

    >>750740701
A ton of Lovecraft media bullshit forgets that you're supposed to be hallucinating WHILE you see the squid things. Only Eternal Darkness ever got this right. So yes, some giant octopus monster is, while horrifying, not beyond compression. However, if it's also making your eyes bleed while giving you blood vessel popping migraines as it rapes your thoughts with its psychic presence, that's different.
    >>
    >>750748065
In a way Bloodborne did too with its mechanics
    >>
    >>750740532
    It's just bad imagination.
How I'd do it is making it non euclidean in an euclidean world, make the character physically blink when looking at it, create a blurring effect, pulse it's transparency and maybe make the mesh wavy.

It's still comprehensible but it's in a way that the game makes it a challenge for you as the player to comprehend which also tells you that the character is struggling even more too.
    >>
    >>750747849
    This movie fucked me up.
    >>
How about the monster is just an old telephone
    >that's not a monster
exactly. it's beyond your comprehension. what might happen if you pick it up?? who was phone?
    >>
    >>750744971
Reminds me of the early AI pics that really looked like they were about something but you could not actually identify or distinguish-apart any object in them. It mastered a sense of recognition somehow but it led in circles in your mind.
    >>
    >>750748625
reminds me of the early thoughts from humans 200,000 years ago which were kind of like thoughts but not really.
    >>
    >>750745065
Lovecraft's main weakness (and skill) as a writer was he fucking SUCKED at description, so he'd usually half-ass it with something like this which actually worked out quite well because as everyone knows less is more in horror.
I'm just curious as to how we went from that to DUDE TENTACLES LMAO
