Did you get yours yet?
>>750736643I have a quest 3s that I barely use why would I drop a grand on this?
>>750736643Yes.
Only a fool would buy this when you can get a better headset for less than half of the price.
>>750736643>#1 reason for existing is hassle free wireless with dongle out of the box>Doesn't work for some people>#2 reason for existing is it's an open PC HMD you can do anything with, and make anything you want for it>Nobody has one so even community VR mods made effortlessly with AI often don't support it
I got a quest 3 years ago, frame barely even beats it for power and has significantly worse compatibility (lmao linux) so no.Also it costs twice as much as what I paid.
>>750736643Finally got to pay for mine.Does the eyetracking work for desktop stuff?
>>750736643Nope got the 2027 notice. Hoping to get it earlier than then but I'm not holding my breath.
Cancelled my order. Just gonna save up for a pimax with OLED, passthrough and better FOV instead.
>>750737426Give me a headset as light as the Frame that can be used wirelessly with as low a latency.
>>750737956Unless you ran a command, there was no local desktop cursor at all until recently, and streaming your desktop with steam VR is blurry as shit despite largely being static images. Some youtuber I saw was working on eyetracking for user interfacing a few weeks ago, don't know how far they got, the calibration would drift and it wasn't accurate enough for that. I think you need more cameras/lights to make it good enough.
>>750738081Don't expect better FOV, but the difference isn't that big of a deal. In the future if we finally get high FOV headsets no one will care if a headset was 110 degrees or 120
no but i bought a quest 2 for $30
I can get a used 512gb quest 3 for $300. It's just impossible for me to justify the Frame, which is a sidegrade, at over $1300.
>reading about varifocal lenses for what feels like a decade>hyped to have a headset with them so I can finally hold things up to my face in VR and see them clearly>years go by>turn 40 next year>still no varifocal headsets in sight>within the coming months my eyes will rapidly lose the ability to focus on objects close up >when it does, varifocal will no longer be relevantI guess this is the first thing I get to experience where I am truly too old and aged out to enjoy something that I know future generations will have. I'm really not special, I really am getting old and dying, and one day too will be fully deceased and miss out on everything that comes after me. Fuck mortality.
Yes. Very important, all of you, look through your settings carefully. By default, for some fucking reason:>eye tracking is OFF>refresh rate is like 70 instead of the max>resolution is not the maximumI have no idea why. I think theyve seriously underestimated how often people are gonna use this as a standalone rather than just streaming from their pc. Also I got a portable battery charger and keep it in my pocket with a little cable connected to the headset which expends its battery life for intense games to 4-5 hours, more than the max of my endurance, though i am chronically ill and not very fit. Is there a VR porn general anywhere?
>>750738554Confused by this postThings about a foot away are clearly visible in VR, even with the focal distance 6 feet away. People still do things like inspect alyx's hands for the first time, even with today's primitive optical stacks. The clarity is still massively bottenecked by resolution. A 4000-8000px^2 headset is going to be more clear with objects a foot away than some mass market 2k varifocal headset with the same object 6 inches away.Use prescription inserts. You aren't the first person with eyeglasses. The real benefit to varifocal is convincing distant objects to infinite. This is currently why very large rooms or outdoor scenes aren't absolutely realistic and breathtaking. Your brain knows the focal point is 6 feet away even though binocular cues are tricking it well enough. The current cope we are on is varifocal has tremendous light losses from a thicker stack of pancake lenses. In 2028 samsung is going to make insanely bright displays that might finally be good enough. You will likely have to choose between varifocal or HDR.
>>750736643I was looking forward to this initially but the specs and price ended up being a huge turn off so I'll just settle with the Steam Controller 2 instead. No OLED or anything similar at that price point is just ass.
>>750739116Hold your smartphone in your hands. Focus on the screen. Now without changing your focus, pay attention to the clarity of everything around your phone. See how blurry everything is while your phone is sharp? In VR right now, this is physically impossible. Instead everything goes blurry as your eyes try to change focus depth to something inches away instead of several feet. It's also physically painful because your eyes are trying to adjust and can't because the lenses are handling focal depth so there's a constant mismatch and your eyes never reach their goal.Varifocal solves this in a natural way. It won't matter once the lenses in my eyes harden from age and can't focus close up anymore.Distant focal plane shifting hardly even matters as there isn't extreme enough parallax between your eyes for distant depth to matter.
>>750736643I'm still in the queue.>estimated order availability: 2027Fuck this gay earth.
>>750736643Yeah! Been playing HL2 in VR. This keyboard is pretty FUCKED up!
>>750739359There's no way you can comprehend my post and think I don't know what a focal plane is retard. Ironically I read my phone's screen with VR passthrough. Only for the closest object inspection you would only do as a tech demo is varifocal required. It was also mostly desirable when headsets were 1200-1400px so objects had to be really close to even appreciate them. This just isn't the case anymore.>Distant focal plane shifting hardly even matters as there isn't extreme enough parallax between your eyes for distant depth to matter. No this is cope. Sometime after playing half life 2 in VR I stood in a real powerplant and there is no comparison. If you want something more accessible, just walk outside.
>>750736643the only thing about it I really care about over my quest 3 is the foveated streaming, but I haven't looked into whether or not that actually makes a big enough difference to be worth spending the money on
>>750736643join /vg/vrg when you do
I gots a slight lazy eye so the eye tracking dont work
>>750737426>give money to fuckerberg, its a better deal!!noalso I'm not poor
>>750736643No, but I've also given up hope on that. Their paper launch basically killed it.>>750737426Standalone is shit by design, but every company making an Android spin their OS just makes them even more shit. The Quest 3 being hostage to top-down corporate bullshit pet projects just ruins it.Wired headsets are currently stuck in Index sidegrade hell with a controller and base station ecosystem that is wavering between overpriced legacy and deprecated. There isn't really a better solution than the Frame until proper open source SLAM tracking solves the tracking ecosystem problem without a company needing to roll their own or license the software from someone else with all the problems associated with that (RIP WMR). I can definitely see there being a second wave of cheapo pancake lens headsets if they aren't gated by software anymore.>>750738081I'm not holding out hope for Pimax until they get their shit together and launch official Linux drivers.
>>750743497Is it still just 95% trannychat?
